- Plan out your trip to Hollywood Boulevard. The Dolby Theatre tour is about 30 minutes but there are many other things to visit nearby.
- Cameras and recording devices during the tour is strictly prohibited.
- Ditch the car for this visit, instead take the Metro (subway) to the Hollywood / Highland station or use a ride-sharing service like Uber or Lyft to get here. This is a heavily congested area. It can be a headache trying to find a place to park, the lots are expensive, and if you park incorrectly you risk parking tickets or being towed.
- If you do drive, park in the parking garage underneath the Hollywood & Highland center. Entrances are found on Orange and Highland streets.
- Arrive ten minutes before your scheduled tour time.
- Bathrooms are not available inside the theatre, so be sure to use facilities outside the theatre on Level 2 before beginning the tour.

The Dolby Theatre is somewhat hidden within the Hollywood / Highland complex but very accessible from the boulevard. On Hollywood, find the Hollywood Masonic Temple with the three large red banners marking the studio for Jimmy Kimmel Live. Directly across the street is the sign for the Dolby Theatre and the promenade that leads to it. During the Oscars, this area is draped in red carpets, but on the day of your tour you’ll have to imagine that as you walk north, deeper into the mall area, under the Grand Staircase, and right up to the Dolby Theatre Box Office booth. This is Level One. Buy your tickets here and select the time of your tour.
MEET YOUR TOUR GUIDE
You’ll need to go to Level Two to meet up with your tour guide. Make sure you are at the designated meeting spot at least five to ten minutes before the tour starts. Take the Grand Staircase up just like the movie stars do. Before you climb all the stairs, turn around and practice waving to your fans, take a selfie, and check out the pillars that are built all around the staircase. Each art deco pillar has the year and date of several movies. These are movies that have won the Best Picture Award during past Academy Award ceremonies. There are enough spaces on the pillars to makes sure every winner until 2070 has a spot.
ENJOYING THE TOUR
The tour takes you on the exact route that your favorite movie stars follow during Oscar Night. But, one caution: they do not want you snapping photos in the lobby area, the first place you visit. There are many famous photos on the wall and they do not want visitors taking pictures of this copyrighted material. But, once you go deeper into the theater you will be allowed to take pictures of everything else. Here your tour guide will explain the history and traditions of the Academy Awards and give you a play-by-play of what happens during the night. Can you find a seat where one of your favorite stars waited to hear whether they won? If so, ask the tour guide to snap a picture of you sitting in that seat.
THE WINNER’S WALK
Next, the tour guide escorts you along the Winner’s Walk. This is the route an Oscar winner takes after she has taken possession of her golden statue and given her acceptance speech and walked off stage. Along the way, the tour guide will give you the details of what movie stars do during this period, who fills their seats, where they meet the press, and the significant details of the Oscar statue design—some very interesting trivia that most movie fans, and movie stars, know nothing about. Finally, the tour ends on the Third Level entrance, one level above where you started. Here you can go to a movie at the TCL Chinese Theatre (formerly called Grauman's Chinese Theatre) or turn left (or east) and go shopping, or take the escalator down to the lower levels where you started your tour.

Hollywood Movie Star Homes Tour - a two-hour van tour showcasing the homes of some of the most famous movie stars in the world. The Hollywood Sign - The iconic Hollywood Sign is visible from this location. Go up to the third or fourth level of the Hollywood / Highland Complex for the best photo op. Jimmy Kimmel Live! - Plan ahead and get free tickets for one of Jimmy Kimmel's show tapings. You can be in the audience, listen to the talk show, and even attend a concert. You might even get a shot at being on television!

Hard Rock Cafe - Right next to the Dolby Theatre you can find this unique rock and roll concept restaurant. Grab some great burgers and check out their collection of rock memorabilia. Cabo Wabo Cantina - This is a great place for margaritas and Mexican food. The restaurant is owned by rocker Sammy Hagar (Van Halen, Chickenfoot) and serves his favorite dishes alongside his Cabo Wabo Tequila. California Pizza Kitchen - Pizzas and pasta that the whole family will enjoy. Dave & Buster’s (D&B) - This restaurant has a sports bar feel, it serves traditional food and drinks alongside an impressive arcade that will entertain everyone in your group.
