About this experience
The city of Bruges is a photographer’s dream come true, chock full of enchanting mediaeval buildings, quaint cobbled lanes and dreamy canals. In other words, there’s plenty here to explore – assuming you can drag yourself away from those boutique Belgian chocolate stores and cute sidewalk cafés with their frankly irresistible waffles, hot chocolates and potent Trappist beers.
In fact, this coach tour from Amsterdam gives you over eight hours in pocket-sized Bruges, meaning there’s plenty of time to tick off all the bucket-list attractions and fill your face with the finest chocolates known to humanity.
Don’t miss the epic 360-degree views from the top of the 13th-century Belfort, worth every one of the 366 steps required to reach the top. Once there, a dizzying 83 meters above the historic main Markt square, you’ll enjoy panoramic views across the city and beyond. The nearby Burg is Bruges’s second-most-celebrated square and with very good reason: it’s where you’ll find the monumental gothic City Hall and soaring Basilica of the Holy Blood, which boasts a relic said to contain the blood of Christ himself!
Hit up the Groeningemuseum for the best art collection in Bruges, including pieces by van Eyck, Magritte and Hieronymous Bosch, and pause in the small shop to pick up some arty souvenirs to take home. You’ll also want to experience this fairytale city’s dreamlike architecture from the water – take the 30-minute canal cruise from the Belfort for a close-up view of the marvellous mediaeval buildings that line the banks.
