For an unforgettable view of Amsterdam, climb the 216 steps up to the roof of De Nieuwe Kerk and watch the city unfold beneath you. 

This view is brand new; one that almost nobody has seen before. The De Nieuwe Kerk viewing platform is part of Amsterdam 750, a year-long celebration marking the city's 750th birthday. 

The experience begins with your trip to the top. Enter the 17th-century stairwell on Nieuwezijd’s Voorburgwal, which was originally built for a soaring 115-metre-high tower that was never completed. 

Access the crossing platform via a temporary scaffolding staircase – the crossing platform is being restored throughout 2025 – and you’ll be able to soak up the views of the Amsterdam skyline and its iconic web of canals. 

Look out for the Westerkerk’s dramatic crown-topped spire, Central Station, the magnificent Royal Palace Amsterdam, and contemporary buildings like the Zuidas and the A’DAM Tower, which features The Lookout.

After you’ve finished admiring the view and taking plenty of photos, you’ll leave the platform via a second temporary staircase on Dam Square in Amsterdam’s historical center.
