Located in the heart of Ireland's true thoroughbred county, the Irish National Stud & Gardens boasts stunning natural scenery and also offers a fascinating look at Ireland's horseracing tradition.
Orignally owned by the famed breeder Colonel William Hall Walker, the farm and its stock was gifted to the Crown and became The National Stud under the leadership of Sir Henry Greer in 1915. It was eventually taken over by the newly formed Irish Government in 1943. With a legacy of producing winning horses, the Stud is a must-see for racing enthusiasts.
What to Expect at the Irish National Stud & Gardens
As well as meeting some winning stallions, you can learn about the rich history and tradition of Irish horseracing at the Interactive Irish Racehorse Experience. You'll learn all about these impressive thoroughbreds and how the sport grew in popularity throughout Ireland. The experience brings it all to life, allowing you to go behind-the-scenes at top trainer Jessica Harrington’s yard, where you can train your racehorse and choose your unique racing colors, and then enjoy the excitment of the race track and test your skills in the commentary box.
The Wonderful Japanese Garden at the Irish National Stud
This attraction is also home to one of the finest Japanese Gardens in Europe as well as St. Fiachra’s Garden, which was designed in 1999 by award-winning landscape architect Professor Martin Hallinan to commemorate St. Fiachra, the patron saint of gardeners. The garden is inspired by Ireland’s monastic movement in the 6th and 7th centuries. Wander through these tranquil gardens and immerse yourself in their beauty.
