Slottsskogen is a large park and recreation area in the city centré, with natural parkland, exotic plants, play areas, cafés and a zoo. The zoo is home to Nordic animals, including moose and seals, but also penguins and exotic birds.</p><p>The fourth stop Haga attracts many visitors all year round. This cosy old district of Gothenburg has many nice cafées and boutiques. This is a great little area to spend some time idly strolling around the neighbourhood. A short walk to the Hop On-Hop Off boat (Jun 27-Aug 17) stop “Feskekôrka”. Feskekôrka is Gothenburg&#39;s most famous fish market where you can tuck into one of the many freshly caught delicacies of that day. No visit to Gothenburg would be complete without trying a herring – raw! Ask the locals how it’s done.</p><p>If you missed the first stop, the fifth will take you back to Avenyn which is a great place to hop off and walk along to admire the beautiful street.  At the top, in the Götaplatsen public square, Carl Milles´ statue Poseidon has become a symbol of the city.</p><p>The bustling bus and tram junction of Korsvägen is close to the amusement park, Liseberg, as well as the mind-blowing Universeum which is fun for all the family, and the acclaimed Museum of World Culture. It was built in the mid-17th century as a storehouse for military uniforms and other military equipment, and is now a living craft centre in a historic setting. When the east wing was built in 1759 for artillery weapon smiths, turners and saddlers, Sweden was mobilizing for war with Denmark and the demand for a warehouse in Gothenburg was therefore high.</p><p>Kronhuset was built in Dutch style, and apart from the brick walls and ceiling, it&#39;s made ​​entirely of wood. The building is six stories high and the ground floor has no supporting pillars, making it easier to move guns and vehicles around. When the parliament convened in Gothenburg Kronhuset also functioned as parliament house.</p><p>Kronhusbodarna, the lower buildings surrounding Kronhuset, are brimming with charm and, alongside the Gothenburg Chocolate and Candy shop, you&#39;ll also find jewellery, pottery, galleries, vintage watches, soapmaking, furniture restoration and more.</p><p> </p>

Bohus is a fortress with unparalleled Nordic history; holding a Nordic record, since its foundation in 1308 Bohus was besieged 14 times by Swedes, Norwegians and Danes – but the fortress has never been conquered.</p><p>Lying on the old Nordic borderland of the Göta River’s estuary, the area suffered under many power struggles between the Norse, the Swedes, and the Danes. While Bohus today is a peaceful and picturesque experience, back in the day it was a time of turbulence with echoes of bombs resonating throughout the walls and clouds of gunpowder smoke in the air. The fortress has witnessed innumerable stories and scandals of kings, saints, witches, traitors, prisoners throughout its long history.</p><p>Originally, Bohus was a simple understated building made of wood before it transformed into a stone castle, using stones from the old fortress on Ragnhildsholmen. Bohus soon became one of the most powerful strongholds in the North, building out its fortress walls, and many stones from demoslished monasteries of the Reformation period of the 16th century were used for its development.</p><p>During the nordic Seven-years’ war, Bohus was besieged six times by the Swedes, as it remained a Denmark-Norway stronghold, but to no avail. It’s no surprise then, that after so many sieges the castle needed to be restored, but it wasn’t until the 16th century when the Danish King Christian IV ruled that Bohus was transformed into a Renaissance castle, with newly fortified bastions and artillery. Bohus became Swedish after the Roskilde Treat in 1658, and after two brutal months of siege from the Danes and the Norse, the castle was almost back to a ruin of rubble.</p><p>Rebuilt as a fortress in the 17th century, it mainly served as a prison, until after the Theatre War in 1788 it was dismantled and a year later the stones were used as building material for the people of Kungälv and you can still see old Bohus stones in the historic houses along Västra gatan and Östra gatan.</p><p>It wasn’t until 1838 when King Carl XIV, who wanted to protect Bohus Fortress for its cultural heritage, prohibited any further damage of this historic stronghold. Conservation work took place at the turn of the 1900s and since 1935 it has been protected and considered a significant part of Nordic history.<br /> </p></div>

Along the way, you’ll get to experience Sweden’s rich and varied landscape and take in the incredible views.</p><div><h3>Tour of Hisingen highlights</h3><p><strong>Göta </strong> <strong>älv</strong><strong> - </strong> was formed at the end of the last glaciation, as an outflow channel from the Baltic Ice Lake to the Atlantic Ocean. It is now the largest drainage basin in Scandinavia.</p><p><strong>River Nordre - </strong>pass green meadows, barren cliffs, farmland with grazing cows, and much more.</p><p><strong>Björkö Fjord - </strong>Björkö is home to a historic shrine written in ancient Germanic referring to something or someone known as &#39;the one&#39; or &#39;the harbinger&#39;. The shrine comprises nine stone structures, two are burnt mounds and one is a cairn known as <em>Ingas grav</em> or the grave of Inga. Learn even more celtic tales as you sail between the glacier weathered, steep cliffs on this narrow inlet.</p><p><strong>Göteborg Harbour - </strong>sea life and coastal community come together at this beautiful and dynamic harbour.</p><p>The boat tour will start in the popular Lilla Bommen, where you’ll also find the Opera House, Viking barque, and other boat tours to Älvsborg Fortress. From here you’ll board the M/S Carl Michael Bellman for a fun-filled four-hour cruise around the ancient island of Hisingen, Sweden’s fifth-largest island and whose first settlements date back to 9000BC.</p><p>The boat tour will take you along the winding waterways of Gothenburg’s Göta River, through the Björkö Fjord, bustling harbour, and out into the coast. Once you reach the island of Vinga you can explore the beautiful surroundings, discover the nature and follow the quaint trails towards the renowned lighthouse, Taube Museum, and swim in some of the west coast&#39;s best waters. Eriksberg is an up and coming residential area along the sunny Northern river bank, home to many quaint cafes if you want a coffee stop.
