Taking a selfie in Las Vegas

Best Las Vegas Souvenirs

Vivaaaaa Las Vegas – so the song goes, a cheesy tune to match the cheesy lyrics. And chances are, reading that line conjured up images of flashing neon signs, feathers, roulette wheels and Elvis in his famous white jumpsuit. Well, you wouldn’t want to go to Vegas and not see all of that, right? Just as you wouldn’t want to go to Vegas and not come home with a tacky souvenir or two – although you’ll be pleased to learn that there are plenty of genuine, high-quality products around as well. Here are our best ideas for your Vegas souvenirs, ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous:

Casino gambling chips

Image of Accessories, Gemstone, Jewelry, Purple,

No doubt you’re planning to have a bit of a flutter in Vegas, and whether that’s playing poker, roulette or slot machines, the sound of chips stacking and falling will become an indelible reminder of your Vegas holiday. Each casino has its own chips, ranging from $1 up to the thousands, and you are allowed to take them with you, so they make a good souvenir if you have some leftover (just keep in mind that they can expire, so maybe cash in any big ones!) Some casinos will let you buy a new one if you ask the cashier, or you can buy customized chips and other items like cards and dice from specialist stores like Spinetti’s.

Chocolate

Image of Food, Sweets,

Ok, we know it’s not Switzerland or Belgium, but chocoholics may just find their new favorite thing at Bellagio Patisserie, in the foyer of the Bellagio hotel. The café is famous for its treats and delicacies, but the crowds really come to see the world’s largest chocolate fountain, an ever-flowing cascade of milk, white and dark chocolate sending cocoa aromas permeating through the lobby. You can’t sample it, sadly, but you can take home a box of artisan chocolates or macarons. Whether you share them or not, we’ll leave up to you.

Blue Man Group drumsticks

Image of Lighting, Concert, Crowd, Person, Adult, Male, Man, Face, Head,

The Blue Man Group is one of the endearing favorites of the Las Vegas line-up – their color-filled show combining paint and percussion has been delighting audiences in Vegas for more than twenty years. You can take home a great memento from the show – other than a splashed shirt, that is – by buying a set of Blue Man Group drumsticks before the show. Then if you hang around afterwards, the Group comes out to meet the audience and will sign the sticks if you ask them, so you’ll have the perfect personalized souvenir!

A mini ‘Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas’ sign

Image of City, Fireworks, Urban, Building,

It’s one of the most iconic sights in the city and one that every visitor looks for when they first approach the strip – the dazzling, diamond-shaped ‘Welcome to Las Vegas’ sign. This double-backed, internally lit emblem has been there since 1959, with its red and yellow eight-pointed star, ‘welcome’ letters outlined in silver dollars and flashing yellow lights chasing each other around the outside. Visitors can take home their own mini version from any souvenir shop, in the form of a magnet, sticker, mugs, towels, flashing ornaments and just about anything else you can think of.

A new spouse

Image of Formal Wear, Tie, Adult, Male, Man, Person, Female, Woman,

Don’t worry, we’re only joking – mostly. If you have been meaning to tie the knot, and you’re a fan of the King, then why not pop by the Graceland Chapel while you’re here? You might even be able to convince people to look at your holiday pics... On the other hand, you could just pick up a trinket from the gift shop – there’s mugs, keyrings, clothing, records and collectibles, instruments, snow globes and of course Elvis bobble heads. Or pick up an authentic Elvis suit – all your theme parties from now on will be sorted!

Navajo turquoise jewelry

Image of Turquoise, Accessories, Jewelry,

We promised sublime, and this is it. Known as the ‘stone of life’ by the Navajo tribe of Nevada, turquoise has long been valued by local craftsmen as a unique and beautiful component of jewelry and talismans. When the art of silversmithing was introduced to the region around a hundred years ago these two elements were combined, with the result that Navajo silver and turquoise jewelry is some of the most prized in the world. And because varying levels of copper and aluminum deposits in the stones make each piece slightly different, your souvenir will be beautiful, local and totally unique.

A podium prize

Image of Kart, Vehicle, Adult, Male, Man, Person, Boy, Child, Helmet,

If you’re traveling to Las Vegas with the family you’ll need to find something to do other than sitting in a casino all day – so how about a family go-karting day? At Las Vegas Mini Grand Prix there are four tracks to try out, from the Kiddie Kart track for the little ones up to the Euro High Speed Track for the speed demons in the family. There are also games and an arcade room, and at the end of the day winners can redeem their tokens for a prize of their choice to take home – bragging rights included of course!

A group photo with a difference

Image of Person, City,

A group photo with a neon sign in the background is all well and good, but let’s face it, it’s not very exciting or interesting. On the other hand, if you’ve got some adrenalin junkies in the group, how about a photo in mid-air? Take a selfie from a ‘limousine of the sky’ on a Las Vegas Strip Helicopter Tour or, if you prefer to get physical, up to ten people at a time can ride the Fly LINQ Zipline, which is a 1,121-foot-long zipline over the streets and signs of the city to the High Roller Observation Wheel at the other end. Afterwards you can purchase a professional photograph of you and your group in mid-flight – a unique souvenir perfect for sticking on the fridge at home. Or if you prefer a video memento, how about a SkyJump from the top of the 108-floor STRAT building?

Las Vegas in May

Tucked away in the Nevada desert, surrounded on all sides by sand, rocks and an occasional cactus, is a bright pocket of color, sound and neon lights. It never sleeps, and it’s never stopped, since some plucky miners and their railroad brought wealth to the region more than a hundred years ago. The city, of course, is Las Vegas. Today, no matter the time of day or year, weary travelers and adventure-seekers alike still seek their fortune here – though one of the best times to come, for weather, crowds and partying till the small hours, is the charming spring month of May. All you need to know includes: Weather in May What's on Day trip ideas Pool parties Las Vegas in May Average temperature: 89oF • Average rainfall: 1 day/mth • Average sunshine: 13 hours Things begin to heat up in Vegas in May, as the days get longer and the clouds dissipate, leaving clear blue skies as far as the eye can see. There’s almost no rain – average rainfall for the whole month is 0.12 inches – but it’s not unheard of for an isolated thunderstorm to roll in, so check the forecast before you head out. It gets warmer as the month goes on, with temperatures regularly reaching the mid-90s and potentially ticking over 100 degrees, so be prepared for heat – particularly in the middle of the day. It’s still quite cool in the evenings, averaging a brisk 66oF overnight, so a light jacket or coat is recommended if you’re heading out and about after dark. Keep in mind, also, that many of the hotels and casinos have dress codes and don’t allow shorts – though fortunately they’re all air-conditioned, so you’ll be fine once you get there. What’s on in May There’s no shortage of fun to be had in Vegas in May, though if you’re here on a festival weekend you can expect to pay premium rates for hotels. On the other hand, if you miss them, your chances of getting a great deal are pretty good. Around the middle of the month is the annual Billboard Music Awards at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, when the city fills up with rockstars and people who want to get a glimpse of them. Recent performers and recipients have included Ed Sheeran, Kanye West, Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande, to name a few. If that’s not your thing, escape the hoards by whisking yourself up to the Eiffel Tower observation deck, or seek sanctuary on the High Roller Observation Wheel in a soundproofed, climate-controlled pod. The last Monday of the month is Memorial Day and in Vegas this marks the unofficial start of the summer season. Most of the hotels get their festival vibes on with pool parties lasting all weekend; clubs, bars and restaurants will also have special events and offers. Or if you’re looking for a family-friendly event you could attend The Best Dam Barbeque Challenge, a two-day annual event in which teams compete to produce the best ribs, pork, brisket, and chicken. For spectators, as well as the obvious chance to taste a lot of grilled meat, there’s music, a car show and barbequing lessons for the kids. Or if you’re into Punk Rock and bowling, go for the obscure but fun Punk Rock Bowling and Music Festival, which is pretty much exactly what it says it is. Day trips from Vegas May is a great time to explore the regions around the city, as the days are getting longer but the heat hasn’t yet become extreme. If it’s your first time in the area make sure you visit the Grand Canyon and tick a natural wonder of the world off your bucket list. The trip begins and ends with a smooth ride in an air-conditioned coach, and in between you’ll enjoy a rejuvenating stop at Lake Mead, cross the Mike O'Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge into Arizona and spend three hours exploring the Canyon’s stunning South Rim on a guided tour. If you prefer wonders of engineering, you could visit Hoover Dam, where you can peer from the dam itself into the depths of the Black Canyon and spend some time exploring Boulder City. Or if you prefer a more elementary escape, why not try a combined trip to Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon? Here you can enjoy a scenic drive over mountain passes and red cliffs, see unique rock formations at Chequerboard Mesa and walk the rim of a canyon with stunning natural vistas. Wherever you choose to go, be sure to have your camera fully charged! Vegas Pools When you’ve been out in the desert all day, or hitting the shops of the Vegas Strip, there’s only one way to cool off – in a luxury Vegas hotel pool. This is nothing like your local swim center – these are mind-blowingly lavish and often magnificent bathing resorts, each attempting to outdo the others in theme, extravagance and sheer ingenuity. Choices include 11 acres of beach, tropical island and wave pools at Mandalay Bay, the Mount Olympus-themed Garden of the Gods at Caesar’s Palace, or actual sharks in the titanic-sized tank at the Golden Nugget. Pool season lasts from March to October and most of them stay open from 7am to 7pm. Many of them host pool parties – although you’ll hear them referred to as ‘day clubs’ - because they’re basically an all-day party with music, drinks and crowds of young people letting their hair down. Before you head to your chosen oasis, be aware that many of the hotels have strict rules about who’s allowed in, and in what manner, so make you check before you bathe. One or two – like the LINQ Influence Pool and Planet Hollywood – are free at certain times, but most have to be booked and paid for unless you’re staying at that hotel, and pool parties are strictly adults-only. If you’re not sure which one to pick – or want to try more than one – jump on a Rock Star Pool Party Tour which will take you to two of the best ones on a limo with complimentary drinks. When the pools close, follow it up (if you’ve got the stamina) with a Rockstar Club Tour, which gets you into four of the most exclusive clubs in town. Yes, you ‘May’ have it all! May is the perfect month to visit Sin City. Save money with a Go City Las Vegas Explorer or All-Inclusive Pass, and make sure you don’t miss a thing!

Las Vegas Bachelorette Party Ideas & Tips

Every friend group needs at least one friend to have their bachelorette party in Las Vegas. We put together some of our top tips and ideas for planning the best Las Vegas Bachelorette Party Weekend getaway with the girls, including where to stay, things to do, and where to eat. Tips for Planning Ideal length of stay: 3 days, 3 nights (this is not a hard-and-fast rule, just somewhere to start) Schedule in a little time for some R&R in your hotel room or plan a relaxing activity like a guided day trip, lounging at the pool, catching a show, or pampering at the spa. When planning for a group, let guests pick a couple of their activities (spa day vs. lounging at the pool, etc.) Skip the custom t-shirts and treat yourselves to an activity or extra special dinner instead (nobody ever wears those shirts again anyway!) Book accommodations and activities in advance to make sticking to a budget for the group easier. (Be sure to make any necessary reservations well in advance too.) Tips for saving on a hotel Shop around, look for promotions for Vegas hotels on budget travel sites, consider amenities that save money, such as airport shuttle service, pool access, a kitchenette, free parking, etc. Plan your trip first, and think about amenities you don't need. Booking a limo service to pick everyone up at the airport? Shuttle service might not be as big a draw. Going on a guided Pool Party Tour? Access to the hotel pool isn't much of a perk, etc. Budget Hotels (rooms are just for sleeping anyway, right?): some budget-friendly hotels on the strip to consider are, New York-New York Hotel & Casino, Motel 8 Las Vegas, Hilton Grand Vacations Suites at the Flamingo, The Mirage, and Treasure Island. High-Roller Hotels (you only get married once, right?): if you're looking for a little luxury on the strip, some hotels to consider are Mandarin Oriental, Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas, Mandalay Bay, Bellagio Hotel & Casino, Caesars Palace, The Palazzo, Wynn Las Vegas, and Encore. Bachelorette Party Activities Give your guests an idea of the itinerary before the trip so that they know what to expect (and what to pack). Include the weather forecast when you touch base with all of the ladies right before the trip. For Relaxing Chances are, everybody will need a break from the parties and celebrations at some point during your trip to relax and restore. Schedule in some time to do something relaxing like seeing a show or hitting the spa. Sit back and relax as you glide through the picturesque streetscape on an outdoor gondola ride at The Venetian®. You'll feel like you're traveling through the canals of Venice while your guide serenades you. (Great photo opp!) Don't go to Vegas without catching a show at the famous V Theater . Or, loosen up the crowd and get the laughs going by taking the famous Stripper 101 class -- memories, guaranteed. Head to a luxurious spa for some Vegas-style pampering and professional detoxing. Schedule group massages, check out some hot tubs, or indulge in some mani/ pedis. Check out one of the top 5 picks from SheKnows.com. For Enrichment Explore the Strip. Get out and see the sunshine. It's easy to spend an entire day indoors with all the hotels and casinos have to offer. Explore the Strip on foot (be prepared, the Strip is 4 miles long) or, board a hop-on hop-off guided bus tour. Make sure you see the famous "Las Vegas, Nevada" sign and snap a pic with the whole group as a souvenir. Catch the famous fountain show at The Bellagio, walk over the "Brooklyn Bridge" at New York New York, and more. Where to Dine Otherwise known as: our favorite topic to write about, Las Vegas being no exception. For Brunching Is there such a thing as too many mimosas? Definitely not in Vegas. Head to the Wicked Spoon at the Cosmopolitan for bubbles and brunch. Go for the bottomless mimosas, chicken and waffles, and the buffet-style amazing-ness that diners rave about (for good reason). Fans of "the Cake Boss" need to check out Buddy V's, Buddy Valastro's first restaurant. Their brunch menu features classic brunch creations served buffet-style and bottomless libations such as sangria, bloody marys, bloody caesars, and more. If you're like us, on Sundays, one of your favorite activities and checking the #bloodymary hashtag on instagram. Head to Todd English P.U.B. for break-the-internet-worthy bloody marys and some tasty bites. Find out what keeps all of the rave reviews coming at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino's Culinary Dropout, a trendy establishment with an innovative menu (pretzel fondue, anyone?), inviting atmosphere, and live music on select nights. Looking for classic American fare and a fun tourist-y dining experience? Be sure to check out the Planet Hollywood right on the strip. It's an easy place to go with a big group and the Hollywood movie-inspired atmosphere always promises a good time. The ever-popular In-N-Out Burger is always an option and might be a bucket list item for some of your guests. Located just off the strip on the other side of Interstate 15, it's a little tricky to get to, but we promise it's worth the small trek! Insider tip: be sure to get your double-double with a side of french fries "animal style", trust us, they're amazing. Have you been to a Las Vegas Bachelorette Party? Let us know if you would add any suggestions to our list in the comments below!
