Miami

If you love beaches and swimming in the sea, Miami is the perfect place to visit. Well-recognized for its clear blue skies and lush tropical greenery, the Magic City is one of the most popular tourist hotspots in the United States – and with good reason! We love the city all year round, but each season has something a little different to offer. If you’re looking to make a splash and have fun in the sun, we recommend visiting during the spring or early summertime. For those who want to escape the crowds, autumn is the perfect choice for a fun seasonal getaway. And whilst usually slept on, Christmastime in Miami is a notion well worth exploring. Whatever time of the year you choose to visit though, you’ll find that the weather will be just perfect for outdoor activity. Still not sure which would be the best time of the year to make your way to Miami? Have a read through our guide to discovering the area. Whenever you choose to make the trip, we’re sure you’ll have a blast!

January - February

Seated along the southeastern coastline, Miami is known for its hot weather. If you’re looking to beat the heat, we recommend booking your vacation for the beginning of the year, around January to February. The weather is usually in the high 70s with low humidity and little rain around this time of the year, but still warm enough for touring all of the city’s wonderful outdoor attractions in great comfort. We recommend bringing a sweater for the evening times, since temperatures drop after the sunsets. The city should be less crowded around this time of the year, making it a great time to explore without feeling too overwhelmed. Another reason why it’s great to visit during the wintertime is that it’s off-season – meaning that you’ll find great prices on luxury accommodation and flights. Perfect for those who like the idea of travel without all of the hustle and bustle that comes along with it, the start of the year is one of the best options for those who like to go low-key.

March - May

No matter the season, Miami finds a way to shine in its own special way. Still, one of our favorite times to visit has got to be from March through to May, since the city comes alive from the wintertime. This great transition period brings balmy, moderate temperatures which heat up as you near closer towards the summer months. Sunseekers and beach bunnies will especially love visiting during this time of the year not only for the weather alone but also for the exciting events and activities which come along with it. We recommend checking out the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, OUTShine Film Festival and the Flamenco Festival. Though the city witnesses a great influx of visitors for spring break, this period is actually shoulder season, so you’ll still be able to find great deals on lodging and flights. For those looking to avoid the crowds, we recommend trying to avoid booking around spring break. We especially like this time of the year because it offers all the benefits of visiting Miami in the summertime, but with smaller crowds and less humidity.

June - July

The Sunshine State often conjures up the postcard-perfect image of tropical paradise. To make the best of Miami’s magnificent soft white sand beaches and wonderful exotic foliage, we recommend heading over to the city during June or July. By travelling at the kick-off of summertime, you’ll be able to swim in the warm sea surf and hang at the pool whilst avoiding those uncomfortably hot days which occur more at the height of summer. Sunblock and bug spray are an absolute must during this time of the year, so don’t forget it! Still, since it’s hurricane season, it can get rather rainy, so we suggest bringing a light jacket with you. The city will be bold and active around this time of year, so you’ll find that there’s plenty to do here without it being intensely overcrowded. Though the heat isn’t quite for everyone, if you’re looking to enjoy the area’s wonderful natural attributes, there truly is no better time than the summertime.

September - October

It’s not unusual for Miami to host over 20 million visitors each year, with many heading over in autumn. Those looking to hit the beach will love visiting around this time of the year, since temperatures hover around the mid-80s and the sea will still be warm enough to swim in. Still, Hurricane season runs on right through until the end of the season, so visitors can expect some drizzle and humidity. The plus side is that this is the quietest time of the year to visit, as the summer is winding down and school is starting back up. With the smaller crowds and perfect weather, the city is great for exploring a lot fantastic outdoor attractions. Those travelling during October will also find a lot of great seasonal events, including Oktoberfest, Pirates at the Wharf and South Beach Seafood Festival. Whether you’re looking to see the sites or take a romantic break, fall in Miami is an absolute dream.

November - December

Miami might not welcome blankets of snow like many other US cities, but that’s no reason to sleep on it for a fun seasonal getaway. In fact, winter is one of the most popular times to visit Miami since it offers moderate temperatures and a break from all of the drizzle. Still, that’s not all that winter in Miami has to offer. Visitors during the wintertime can expect to see palm trees adorned in Christmas lights and all-around holiday cheer. You’ll also find that there are many exciting festive events and pop-ups around this time of the year - we recommend checking out the Winterfest Boat Parade, City Theatre’s Winter Shorts and Santa’s Enchanted Forest. This is a pretty popular time of the year to visit the Magic City, so we strongly recommend booking in advance. Since it’s during the holiday season, you’ll also find that hotel rates and flights are more expensive around this time of the year. Fun, atmospheric and buzzing with life, there’s no time to see Miami like the holidays.

So, there you have it – the best times to visit Miami! Each season has something a little different to offer, so if you plan on visiting more than once a year, you’ll be able to experience the city from a different perspective. 3 Miami Tourist Traps to Avoid

Taking a vacation to sunny South Beach, but unsure about how to spend your time? While there are tons of great attractions to keep the whole family busy, there are also a number of Miami tourist traps you may want to avoid. To help you out, we’ve put together a list of the most commonly identified problems that tourists often encounter in Miami and some advice on what to do instead. Overpriced Food & Drink South Beach restaurants Sometimes this is a given on vacation, especially when you’re talking about a major urban center like Miami. That said, some neighborhoods are going to always be pricier than others, as they cater to a certain crowd. If you’re looking for the premier experience, then South Beach is the destination for you. However, if you want something a little more affordable, stick to Miami Beach instead. You’ll find top quality restaurants for more reasonable prices. Expensive Beach Spaces South Beach in Miami Everyone who comes to Miami wants at least a little time on the famous beaches. After all, Will Smith’s iconic ode to the city praises their legendary party status! Unfortunately, not all beaches are created equal. Many beaches require a hefty minimum deposit to reserve space, or a minimum on food and beverage purchases just to be on the beach! Fortunately, there are plenty of beaches that require only a small fee for admission and allow you to park your blanket wherever you can find space. We recommend North Beach as an affordable and family-friendly destination. Low-Quality Tours Miami Harbor at night Tours are a great way to get a real feel for Miami, especially since much of its cultural real estate is pretty spread out. However, not all tours are created equal. You’ll find some that are high cost, low value. We recommend a tour like Big Bus Miami, which includes a hop-on/hop-off pass, allowing you to make the most of your explorations without the hassle of driving. If you’d prefer to see Miami by water, then check out the Miami Water Taxi! (Better yet, bundle the two with a Build Your Own Go Miami Card and save 20% off admission tickets) So when you’re planning your next trip to South Beach, pick out a few top Miami attractions while avoiding these common tourist pitfalls. To save even more time and money, pick up an all-inclusive Go Miami Card to save up to 55% on attraction tickets. That way, you can eat, drink, and sightsee to your heart’s content, worry-free! Happy Exploring!

South Beach can also be a little more expensive than other areas of Miami, especially during the summer months when the city becomes especially crowded. Still, it’s the perfect place to soak up the sun and enjoy the beach. If you do plan to stay here, we suggest booking far in advance. Little Havana As one of the most popular tourist destinations in the United States, Miami presents no shortage of places to rest your head, each as wonderful as the next. If you're looking for a fun and cost-effective area to stay in, Little Havana just might be the answer. Located just west of downtown, this place is a center of social, cultural and political activity in Miami. Little Havana is currently the best-known Cuban exile neighborhood in the world, and is characterized by its vibrant community, historical landmarks and great food. In addition, the district is known for its historic bungalows, Mission Revival blocks and oolitic limestone facades, all of which are protected by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Teeming with culture and full of life, this area when it comes to staying in Miami without breaking the bank. Plus, the food is to die for – hey, what more would we ask for, right? Downtown Miami is perhaps best-known for its pristine white-sand beaches, though visitors will also find a whole host of other great things to appreciate from fascinating historic sites to delicious eats and beyond. If you’re looking to experience the Magic City from a whole other perspective, we recommend staying Downtown. Though Downtown is recognized as the historic heart of the city, this area has experienced something of a renaissance; walking through the streets, you’ll find an eclectic mix of modern high-rises and fascinating landmarks. With so much to see, do and experience, those who stay here will be spoilt for choice! Coconut Grove Another one of our favorite places to stay in Miami has got to be Coconut Grove. A tranquil oasis set just south of downtown, this spot delivers on every level. Known colloquially as The Grove by locals, this is the oldest continuously-inhabited neighborhood in the city. Brimming with history and culture, Coconut Grove has much to offer for those who like to incorporate a little education into their holiday experience. In addition, this area is well-recognized for its scenic lush greenery and relaxed atmosphere, as well as the peacocks which roam the streets. The area is a little quieter and less crowded than say South Beach or Little Havana, making it perfect for those who are looking for a laid-back vacation experience. The only downside of staying in Coconut Grove is that accommodation prices are higher than average, so you should be aware of that. Still, for a touch of culture and storied history, there’s nowhere better to stay in the city. Wynwood & the Miami Design District A sprawling metropolis seated along the southeastern coastline, Miami has much to offer for all types of travellers. If you’re an artsy type, you might want to consider checking out either Wynwood or the Miami Design District. A once-gritty community, Wynwood is now a revitalized subdistrict with much to offer for those with a passion for the arts. Some of its most popular visitor attractions include Oasis, a massive outdoor entertainment venue, and Wynwood Walls, one of the largest outdoor urban art museums in the world.
