Miami

If you love beaches and swimming in the sea, Miami is the perfect place to visit. Well-recognized for its clear blue skies and lush tropical greenery, the Magic City is one of the most popular tourist hotspots in the United States – and with good reason! We love the city all year round, but each season has something a little different to offer. If you’re looking to make a splash and have fun in the sun, we recommend visiting during the spring or early summertime. For those who want to escape the crowds, autumn is the perfect choice for a fun seasonal getaway. And whilst usually slept on, Christmastime in Miami is a notion well worth exploring. Whatever time of the year you choose to visit though, you’ll find that the weather will be just perfect for outdoor activity. Still not sure which would be the best time of the year to make your way to Miami? Have a read through our guide to discovering the area. Whenever you choose to make the trip, we’re sure you’ll have a blast!

January - February

Seated along the southeastern coastline, Miami is known for its hot weather. If you’re looking to beat the heat, we recommend booking your vacation for the beginning of the year, around January to February. The weather is usually in the high 70s with low humidity and little rain around this time of the year, but still warm enough for touring all of the city’s wonderful outdoor attractions in great comfort. We recommend bringing a sweater for the evening times, since temperatures drop after the sunsets. The city should be less crowded around this time of the year, making it a great time to explore without feeling too overwhelmed. Another reason why it’s great to visit during the wintertime is that it’s off-season – meaning that you’ll find great prices on luxury accommodation and flights. Perfect for those who like the idea of travel without all of the hustle and bustle that comes along with it, the start of the year is one of the best options for those who like to go low-key.

March - May

No matter the season, Miami finds a way to shine in its own special way. Still, one of our favorite times to visit has got to be from March through to May, since the city comes alive from the wintertime. This great transition period brings balmy, moderate temperatures which heat up as you near closer towards the summer months. Sunseekers and beach bunnies will especially love visiting during this time of the year not only for the weather alone but also for the exciting events and activities which come along with it. We recommend checking out the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, OUTShine Film Festival and the Flamenco Festival. Though the city witnesses a great influx of visitors for spring break, this period is actually shoulder season, so you’ll still be able to find great deals on lodging and flights. For those looking to avoid the crowds, we recommend trying to avoid booking around spring break. We especially like this time of the year because it offers all the benefits of visiting Miami in the summertime, but with smaller crowds and less humidity.

June - July

The Sunshine State often conjures up the postcard-perfect image of tropical paradise. To make the best of Miami’s magnificent soft white sand beaches and wonderful exotic foliage, we recommend heading over to the city during June or July. By travelling at the kick-off of summertime, you’ll be able to swim in the warm sea surf and hang at the pool whilst avoiding those uncomfortably hot days which occur more at the height of summer. Sunblock and bug spray are an absolute must during this time of the year, so don’t forget it! Still, since it’s hurricane season, it can get rather rainy, so we suggest bringing a light jacket with you. The city will be bold and active around this time of year, so you’ll find that there’s plenty to do here without it being intensely overcrowded. Though the heat isn’t quite for everyone, if you’re looking to enjoy the area’s wonderful natural attributes, there truly is no better time than the summertime.

September - October

It’s not unusual for Miami to host over 20 million visitors each year, with many heading over in autumn. Those looking to hit the beach will love visiting around this time of the year, since temperatures hover around the mid-80s and the sea will still be warm enough to swim in. Still, Hurricane season runs on right through until the end of the season, so visitors can expect some drizzle and humidity. The plus side is that this is the quietest time of the year to visit, as the summer is winding down and school is starting back up. With the smaller crowds and perfect weather, the city is great for exploring a lot fantastic outdoor attractions. Those travelling during October will also find a lot of great seasonal events, including Oktoberfest, Pirates at the Wharf and South Beach Seafood Festival. Whether you’re looking to see the sites or take a romantic break, fall in Miami is an absolute dream.

November - December

Miami might not welcome blankets of snow like many other US cities, but that’s no reason to sleep on it for a fun seasonal getaway. In fact, winter is one of the most popular times to visit Miami since it offers moderate temperatures and a break from all of the drizzle. Still, that’s not all that winter in Miami has to offer. Visitors during the wintertime can expect to see palm trees adorned in Christmas lights and all-around holiday cheer. You’ll also find that there are many exciting festive events and pop-ups around this time of the year - we recommend checking out the Winterfest Boat Parade, City Theatre’s Winter Shorts and Santa’s Enchanted Forest. This is a pretty popular time of the year to visit the Magic City, so we strongly recommend booking in advance. Since it’s during the holiday season, you’ll also find that hotel rates and flights are more expensive around this time of the year. Fun, atmospheric and buzzing with life, there’s no time to see Miami like the holidays.

So, there you have it – the best times to visit Miami! Each season has something a little different to offer, so if you plan on visiting more than once a year, you’ll be able to experience the city from a different perspective. Miami in February

Exciting and buzzing with life, Miami is one of the most popular visitor destinations in the United States – and with good reason. With daily high temperatures ranging around the mid-70s, February is a fantastic time to visit. This is perfect weather for strolls on the beach, a visit to the zoo, or exploring the city’s coolest neighborhoods. With so much to see, do and experience, you’ll be spoiled for choice. If you aren’t quite sure where to start, don’t worry – we’ve done all the research for you. Have a read through our comprehensive list of the best things to do in Miami in spring. No matter how you choose to spend your time in the Magic City, we’re sure you’ll have a blast! See the Sites One to definitely add to the top of the travel bucket list is witnessing the majesty of nature close up. With its fantastic tropical climate and undeniably beautiful greenery, Miami presents some of the best zoological gardens in America. Blending the beautiful backdrop of Miami with incredible exotic creatures, Jungle Island delivers the best of both worlds and more. This place has been delighting animal lovers from near and far since 1936, making it our top recommendation for those looking to see some of the natural world’s most impressive specimens. The site has over 3, 000 animals to show, and over 100 exhibits to be enjoyed. Formerly known as ‘’Parrot Jungle’’, you can expect to see a lot of interesting birds in more varieties than you ever thought existed. This place is also home to Miami’s only private beach, which functions as a kids’ waterpark. The park features obstacle courses, riptide rapids, slides, and a climbing wall to keep the little ones occupied – as if the colorful animals weren’t enough! A thoroughly captivating and magical experience for those of all ages, this one should rank way up high on the itinerary. Whilst travelling, one of the best ways to appreciate the area is by visiting a public garden. Our top pick of Miami’s best green spaces has got to be Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden for its unique collection of exotic flora. This historic garden is home to some beautiful plants and rare specimens which have been carefully cultivated since the mid-1900s. Spanning over 83 acres of land, this must-see attraction offers a fully immersive rainforest experience for you and your loved ones. Walking through the site, you’ll be able to enjoy thousands of types of plants you wouldn’t normally get to see. In addition, the site is home to the largest palm collection in America, as well as the biggest collection of tropical bamboo in the world. Walking through the site, you’ll also be able to view a lot of interesting wildlife which thrives there, including fish, birds, lizards and crocodiles. Perhaps most captivating, though, is the garden’s small butterfly emporium, with countless species to be enjoyed. No doubt one of the most serene spaces in the city, this place works to showcase the true beauty and wonder of the natural world in all its glory. We recommend setting aside a whole day for this if you’re looking to cover the whole space. Learn Something New The best vacation memories aren’t accordingly made when you’re just kicking back. For those who are looking to incorporate education into their travel experience, we recommend checking out the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum. Both inspiring and fun, this place works well to explain a wide range of topics for a broad audience. The institute houses both a planetarium and an aquarium – so there’s a little something for everybody here. Go back in time to explore the wonders of the natural world. Learn about the amazing story of evolution from start to finish. Or hear about the development and future of scientific discovery. No matter where your interests may lie, you’re sure to find something to pique your interest. Some of the best trips include a day at the museum. If you’re looking for art and culture in Miami, look no further than the Pérez Art Museum. Situated just downtown, the institute has long served as the perfect spot for creative and intellectual thought. The gallery’s ongoing core collection draws inspiration from the city’s rich cultural diversity, while you’ll find many rotating exhibits focusing on important social topics. In total, the museum has over 2, 000 pieces, covering a wide range of styles. In its unique and impressive repository, you'll find everything from avant-garde and surrealist paintings to modern and contemporary sculptures. Famous artists featured here include Frank Stella, Dan Flavin, and Christo and Jeanne-Claude. For anybody wanting to squeeze in a little bit of education on their travels, we couldn’t think of a better way to spend the day. Try Something Different Whether or not you consider yourself a spiritual person, there’s something quite special about visiting sacred sites on your trip. Standing out as the oldest visitor attraction in the city by a long shot, the Ancient Spanish Monastery is not only a mesmerizingly beautiful place to spend the day but well-recognized for its fascinating and storied past. Construction for this unique site began in 1133 AD, near northern Spain. For nearly 700 years following the initial construction, the monastery was run by Cistercian monks. It wasn’t until the 1920s that the monastery first landed on American soil, after being deconstructed brick by brick. By the mid-twentieth century, two entrepreneurs had decided to buy the stones to put back together, one by one, with the intention of building a tourist attraction – the Ancient Spanish Monastery as it is now known. The attraction has been branded as ‘’the biggest jigsaw puzzle in history’’ by Time Magazine, and we can certainly see why! Though the site’s past is pretty far-fetched, the monastery retains much of its architectural excellence. Upon entrance, you’ll be able to appreciate its hand-carved columns, sweeping arches, and beautiful shrines. No doubt one of the most unbelievable attractions in the city, this place is definitely worth a visit. We love Miami. Forever fun and bursting with cool things to do, the city lures those from near and far and its beautiful weather and beachy vibes. Though small, the area packs a punch with everything from trendy art galleries and luxury shopping destinations to enticing food halls and bars. Still not sure how to tackle the Miami Design District? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! Have a read through our list of things to see and do in the area. However you choose to explore this unique area of Miami, we’re sure that you’ll have a blast! Get Creative Those looking for art and culture in Miami will not be disappointed with what the Design District has to offer. For a long time, the area has been a center of innovation and creative thought, drawing visitors in from both near and far. If you’re looking for a source of inspiration, perhaps the De La Cruz Collection would be right up your alley. This trendy attraction works to educate its visitors, with a focus on well-established current working artists. Those featured here are a result of reputation, research and exquisite work. Though the institute specializes in contemporary art, you’ll notice that there’s a wide variety of styles – from abstract and surrealist paintings to unique video work and installations, there truly is a lot to see here. We love this place because it’s refreshing and gives us a taste of what’s new in the art world. Some of the best trips include a day or two spent deep inside the halls of a museum. Luckily, perhaps no area more than any other presents more opportunity for fulfilling this very need other than the Design District. If you’re looking to view some first-class art within a beautiful space, there’s no better place to be than the Institute of Contemporary Art. The gallery’s impressive and thoughtfully considered repository works to showcase the recent history of modern art as well as new development within the community. Though the collection steers towards emerging artists, the institute’s permanent collection has works by Pablo Picasso, Yves Klein, and Roy Lichtenstein, among others. Whether you’re a modern art aficionado or a crafting geek, you’re sure to enjoy this wonderful bright space. Art galleries are chock-a-block in the Miami Design District, each offering something a little different. Founded in 1998 by ultra-cool duo COOPER and Elizabeth Withstandley, Locust Projects is a non-profit exhibition space for up-and-coming contemporary artists. Built into a bright renovated warehouse which screams cool, the site is a joy to visit and tends to attract the more creative crowd. Since the space encourages innovation and experimentation, you’ll find a wide variety of styles on display here. The staff is knowledgeable and approachable, so don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions. We love this spot because it works to provide a great look into where the art scene is heading next. Eat and Drink in the Design District Aside from all of the great creative spaces which the Design District is perhaps best known for, the area boasts some seriously great food stops. In fact, there are so many great places that it would be difficult to list them all, but if you’re looking to sample a few different things, we recommend checking out some of its fantastic food halls. A favorite for locals and visitors alike, one of the area’s most renowned food halls has got to be St. Roch Market, a southern-style stop with all the flavor. Serving up a carefully cultivated mix of local food and beverage talent, this place is a sure winner. Another one of our top picks is MIA Market, known for its gourmet culinary offerings and vibrant atmosphere. Here, you’ll find a tempting mix of cuisines from all across the globe. Whichever you choose to go with here, there’s seriously no going wrong! As if all of the fantastic cultural attractions weren’t enough, the Design District is also home to a great variety of places to wet your whistle. From cool, laidback hangouts to ritzy cocktail lounges, the area has much to offer no matter your style. If you’re looking for the ultimate upscale experience, we recommend Abaco Premium Wines for their scheduled tastings. Known for its impressive collection and knowledgeable staff, this place will make you feel like you’re sipping Pinot Noir in the Napa Valley. Whilst the drinks aren’t cheap here, the experience can’t be beaten. For those who are looking for something a little more laidback, we recommend Wood Tavern, a cozy all-American style bar which specializes in quality craft beers. The Design District comes to life after the sun goes down, so we recommend staying to check out some of the area’s fantastic watering holes, such as Sweet Liberty and Jaguar Sun. Learn Something New When travelling, it’s always a good idea to incorporate a little education into your vacation. For this reason, one of our favorite spots in the Design District is the award-winning Haitian Heritage Museum. Since its inception in 2004, the institute has worked to highlight and maintain the rich culture and background of the region internationally, nationally and locally. The institute is known for its carefully-curated and transcending exhibitions featuring everything from historic artefacts and documents to fantastic art and music. Walking around the place, you’ll no doubt be drawn in by everything that it has to show. Combining art, history and culture all under one roof, there’s a lot to see here. Since Little Haiti is nearby, we recommend taking some time to explore this beautiful and complex area of the city – trust us when we say that you won’t regret it for one minute! Forever fun and undoubtedly cool, the Design District is one of the best places in Miami to explore. Explore the area to its full potential with GoCity’s All-Inclusive Pass or Explorer Pass.
