Orlando in April

One of the most exciting times in Orlando is spring when we start to see the city really open up. Offering all the same perks as the summertime, just without the unbearable heat, Orlando in April presents ample opportunity for adventure and exploration. Though the city is known for its famous theme parks, we assure you that this place isn’t a one-trick pony. Whether you’re a nature lover, an artsy type, or a foodie, you’re sure to find something to suit your tastes. From Riding Spaceship Earth at Epcot and photo opportunities at Madame Tussauds to relaxing walks through Kraft Azalea Garden and Disney Wilderness Preserve, here is how to make the most of your time in the city.

It would be a sin to make a trip to Orlando without visiting any of its famous theme parks. Owned and run by The Walt Disney Company. Epcot is the perfect place to spend time with friends and family. Standing out for its unique chosen theme, this place is dubbed as the ‘’permanent world’s fair’’, for its particular focus on human achievement and innovation. The park is divided into four neighborhoods, each with its own theme: World Celebration, World Discovery, World Nature and World Showcase. Within each area, you’ll find shows, activities, and entertainment. Unlike other big theme parks, there are more attractions than there are rides at this place – but that's what makes for a truly unique encounter! Thoroughly iconic and undoubtedly different, this place provides the ultimate entertainment experience for those of all ages.

For pop-culture lovers and film enthusiasts, the next item on our list is an absolute must. To capture the real essence of Hollywood right in the center of Orlando, there’s no better place to be than Madame Tussauds. Offering 6 separate display sections of popular celebrities, the establishment provides a great interactive experience for all visitors. The figures are pretty spectacular close up, paying close attention to detail whilst also embodying the true spirit of each person depicted. A super fun and unique attraction, this one is not to be skipped out on!

In a place like Orlando, sometimes it can seem like the city is saying thing one and one thing only: ‘’visit our theme parks!’’ Still, if you do your research, you’ll find that the area is just as multifaceted as any other. A great stop for all creative types, the Cornell Fine Arts Museum seeks to preserve, display and exhibit artworks ranging from antiquity right through to the contemporary. Upon entrance, visitors can enjoy an expansive collection of over 5, 000 objects, including prints, drawings, sculptures and more. Highlights include Andy Warhol’s photographs and polaroids, and works by Pablo Picasso and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Get into Nature

Though Orlando is perhaps most famous for its outlandish theme parks, it’s also home to some lush green spaces - you just have to know where to look! A total must-do for nature lovers, Kraft Azalea Garden is the perfect place for taking a balmy springtime stroll or watching the sunset over Lake Maitland. Billed as Winter Park’s Secret Garden, the property has less of a perfectly manicured feel, and more of a wild and romantic vibe. Open all year round, this area has magnificent cypress trees, a beautiful fountain, and of course, azaleas. April is a great time to visit since you’ll be able to spot beautiful egrets, mockingbirds and woodpeckers around the park.

If you’re a seasoned visitor to the Sunshine State, you might just know about its beautiful landscapes. Hidden amongst the suburban stretch of South Orlando, the Disney Wilderness Preserve provides the perfect retreat from the city. Covering over 3,500 acres of restored wetlands, this place is an environmentalist’s paradise just waiting to be discovered. Home to over 1,000 species of plants and animals, this area showcases the unique southern ecosystem in all its glory. Make time for a tranquil walk through the forests, take an off-road buggy tour to learn more about the area, or catch a movie under the stars - the choice is yours! Whatever you choose to do, there’s no doubt it’ll be great.

Relax!

When touring, one of the best ways to get to know the area is by visiting a local market. Take advantage of the beautiful springtime weather and l like a local at Winter Park Famers’ Market. Held every Saturday afternoon, this place is known for purveying a wide array of organic veggies, artisan cheeses, and locally sourced honey. Although you probably won’t be taking home any produce, there are a lot of food and art vendors to choose from. Dive into the crowds, soak up the atmosphere and grab some lunch!

If you’re looking to take a break from all of the buzz, why not head to the mall? Since its opening in 2002, the Mall at Millenia has become an Orlando favorite for spending some quality family time and slipping in all of that much-needed retail therapy. Located just south of downtown, the mall has over 150 stores to choose from, ranging from high-end luxury and in-demand brands to high-street stores. Whether you’re looking to browse, pick up some souvenirs for your loved ones back home, or just sit back and relax, this place has all you need for a bit of downtime.

Set along the eastern coastline, Orlando is not a place to hole up indoors. The area caters to all types of travellers, and there are plenty of opportunities to discover something new. Orlando in July

Offering oodles of personality and a strong sense of adventure, Orlando brings more fun to the party than probably any other American vacation spot. The subtropical capital of the Southeast has long been a huge draw for anybody who's interested in visiting Disney World and Universal Studios, amongst others. Still, don’t let its reputation deceive you; Orlando has much to offer for every type of traveler. Apart from its famous theme parks, the city is truly magical in the summertime, offering many activities from shopping and kayaking to swimming with real bottlenose dolphins! If you’re planning to make the visit, use this guide as a starting block to help you plan your trip. Whatever you choose to do, we promise you won’t be disappointed! Hit the Local Attractions If you’re looking for something a little different, don’t worry – we've got you covered! Affiliated with NASA, the Kennedy Space Center seeks to foster fascination and intrigue in the beyond. Combining learning with fun, the center does a good job of breaking down complicated ideas and delivering them in a way that is both exciting and easily digestible. At the institute, you’ll be able to enjoy space memorabilia and exhibits of some astonishing rockets which were built by NASA. In addition, you can catch presentations from a real veteran astronaut! Whether you’re a scientifically inclined person or not, there’s no doubt that this place presents a thoroughly thrilling and unique encounter. There are so many fantastic attractions in Orlando, sometimes it can be overwhelming just choosing what to do there. Still, one of our resounding favorites is Discovery Cove for bringing nature one step closer to us. Owned and operated by Sea World, this place is known for housing a wide variety of marine animals, exotic birds, smaller mammals, and more. The park has a number of packages, but by far its most popular (and magical) one is their ‘’ultimate package’’, allowing visitors to swim with bottlenose dolphins for a day. We couldn’t even dream of a better way to spend a sunny summer’s afternoon! Orlando is a great place to be during the Fourth of July, with many of its famous theme parks celebrating in their own ways. Plus, what could be more American than Disney World on Independence Day? During the day, check out the Hall of Presidents, a robotic and cinematic display of every single United States leader. Then, come nightfall, head towards the emblematic Cinderella Castle to view a spectacular display to remember for years to come. A little bit kitschy and a whole lot of fun, this once-in-a-lifetime experience is a sure crowd-pleaser. See the City Orlando can get really hot around July – and we mean, like, really hot. For those who are trying to beat the heat, we recommend heading over to the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum. Since its establishment in 1942, this place has grown to become home to the world’s largest collection of works by Louis Comfort Tiffany. Amongst its permanent holdings, you’ll find everything from stained glass and lamps to jewelry and pottery, all under one roof. A great stop for all art lovers and creative types, this place perfectly proves that Orlando can do culture. Looking for a great way to beat the heat? Well, look no further! Popular with visitors and locals alike, the Mall at Millenia has over 150 stores to choose from, ranging from global luxury brands to favorite high street stores. In addition, this place offers great eateries across a wide array of cuisines. Whether you’re a serious shopper, just looking to browse, or hankering after a bite to eat, the Mall at Millenia is a great spot. Try Something Different Another one of our favorite things to do in the summertime is visit the zoo - because, well, who doesn’t love a good zoo, really? Located just north of the city, the Central Florida Zoo works to keep its visitors informed about the importance of conservation and caring for animals. Home to over 500 animals, the institution features an insect zoo, a reptile house, a butterfly garden, and so much more. This place also has a feeding and petting area, for those who want to get up close with their favorite furry (or slimy) friends. Don’t be afraid to ask any questions, as the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable, and always happy help. In addition, don’t forget to check out the botanical gardens, which are a sight to behold in themselves. Perfect for animal lovers and those fostering an intrigue for the natural world, this place provides an exciting experience for those of all ages. Orlando can be a lot of fun – in fact, sometimes too much fun. For those times when we’re feeling a little weary, we just find it helpful to take a day off from all of the excitement to rebuild our energy. Thankfully, for anybody who needs a break away from the city, Orlando’s surrounding landscape provides the perfect antidote. In fact, the area is home to one of the most phenomenal and unique ecosystems in the United States, just waiting to be discovered. Our favorite spot is the Tibet-Butler Preserve for its scenic landscape and wide range of activities available for visitors. There are hiking trails, beautiful trees, and even a butterfly garden to be enjoyed. Go kayaking, admire the wildlife, or sit back and soak up the sun – the world’s your oyster! A trip to Orlando in the summertime is a total classic that everybody should experience at least once in a lifetime. The best things to do in the city run the gamut – from incredibly fun to super relaxing. Looking to ride some of the best rollercoasters in the country? Well, you’re in luck, because Orlando is packed with America’s top theme parks! Hankering to get into nature? The surrounding area has beautiful wetlands and wildlife to be explored. But if it’s a quiet day in the museum that you’re after, the city presents no shortage of great cultural institutions. The best things to do in the area run the gamut – from out-of-this-world fun to greatly educational. Those seeking a little adventure are sure to find it here – with famous theme parks like Disney World and Universal Studios right at your fingertips, you’ll never be bored. If you still have time to venture downtown, make sure to check out the fantastic cultural institutions in the area and grab a bite at some of the city’s best restaurants. Whatever your pleasure, you’re sure to find something for you. Still, don’t worry if it's all a little bit overwhelming – that's what we’re here for! If you’re planning to make the visit, check out our list of the best things to do in the area. Let’s get started! Day 1 - See The Sites Travelling can be exhausting for many, which is why we’re starting off with something a little more low-key. If you’re looking for a relaxed day trip to kick off your vacation in the City Beautiful, look no further than the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. As fascinating as it is engaging, this museum works to present a comprehensive view of space travel and aviation for a broad audience. The center is divided into ‘’Mission Zones’’, each focusing on different areas of space travel – from the Race to the Moon to the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame, this place has all the bases covered. Still, if you’re coming to step into the shoes of a real astronaut, you won’t be disappointed. Perhaps the institute’s biggest draw, the institute’s Shuttle Launch Experience recreates a rocket’s takeoff into orbit. Offering a fantastic educational experience for those of all ages, we couldn’t think of a better way to spend our first afternoon in the city. Come evening time, we recommend checking out Universal CityWalk where the fun never stops coming. Drawing in the crowds all throughout the year, this popular tourist attraction is known for providing world-class entertainment, shopping and dining options of all kinds. Before grabbing a bite to eat, we recommend checking out some of the fun activities available; challenge your friends and family with a game of minigolf, catch a movie at the Cinemark theater, or even partake in a spot of karaoke – the choice is yours! This walkable entertainment district also boasts a wide variety of restaurants and dinner shows to choose from to keep everybody happy. Whether you’re looking for elevated American fare or easy quick service options, you’re sure to find it here. Great for those travelling with family, there’s a little something for everybody here. Day 2 - Hit the Theme Parks Of course, you can’t visit Orlando without checking out Magic Kingdom. Quite possibly the most famous theme park in the world, this legendary stop is not only a major part of the city’s identity, but plays into American identity as a whole. Bringing iconic Disney productions to life for generations, this place is often billed as ‘’the happiest place on earth’’ - and with good reason. To prepare for visiting, we recommend wearing your comfiest walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothes – and bringing lots of sunscreen! With over 40 rides, attractions and shopping destinations to choose from, there’s a whole lot to see here in just one day. Don’t worry about fitting it all in – just make sure you get to see your favorites! Remember to take some snaps to capture those great memories whilst you’re there. We recommend staying at the park until the evening time, since Disney runs a spectacular firework show over its famous Cinderella Castle – trust us when we say that you won’t want to miss it! Day 3 - Take a Break After a tiring day at the theme park, you might just be looking for something a little bit more relaxing. Well, look no further than the Disney Wilderness Preserve. Tucked away just south of the city, this hidden gem is the perfect place to take in the natural wonders of the area and enjoy a peaceful hike. With over 12, 000 acres of flatwoods and swamplands to be explored, you could easily spend an entire day here. Located on Everglades National Park, the site exhibits an entirely unique ecosystem currently found nowhere else on earth. Walking through the site, you’ll be able to enjoy over 1, 000 species of plants and animals, including 70 species of butterfly, 80 species of reptiles and amphibians, and 151 species of bird. Exceptionally serene and fascinating to explore, the place offers the perfect respite from the city. Day 4 - Try the Classics Now, you can’t go to Orlando and only visit one theme park. That’d be nuts, right? But how do you choose which one to make your way to next? Well, we kind of let the people do the work for us here. Standing as the most popular amusement park outside of the Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Studios is a long-time favorite choice for visitors and locals alike. Perfect for all film and pop culture lovers, the park is famed for its fun entertainment industry theme. Universal is made up of eight different areas, each with their own unique theme. There’s a lot of ground to cover here – but we’re sure you can handle it! Exploring the park, you’ll find over 40 rides, attractions and live shows to choose from. No matter what your favorite flick may be, you’re sure to find something that’s right up your alley. Living up to its name, this place truly offers an entertainment experience that everybody can enjoy. Day 5 - Wind Down Enjoy the last day of your vacation by exploring the downtown area of the city. The historic center of Orlando presents an entirely different energy that’s definitely worth getting into. Forever lively and thriving with cultural activity, this place presents a great mixture of popular tourist attractions and hidden treasures at your disposal. If it’s museums that you’re after, then you won’t have to look too far – the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum and Wells' Built Museum will be right within walking distance. Or, if you’re a lover of the performed arts, the Dr Phillips Center for the Performing Arts provides world-class entertainment across a wide array of genres. Aside from what the area has to offer in the realm of culture, the neighborhood is brimming with great shopping opportunities, restaurants and bars to be discovered. Offering something a little different from the typical Orlando tourist experience, we love this spot for its ’'live like the locals’' vibe. Maybe five days doesn’t seem like a lot – but with the right amount of planning, you should be able to fit in everything, your way.
