Just because you’re travelling solo doesn’t mean you have to rule out certain activities. For those adventurous types out there, why not shake things up a little by spending the day at Orlando Watersports Complex? Perfect for sunseekers and sporty types alike, this place is recognized as one of the largest wakeboard parks in the United States. Still, that's not all there is to try out there – this unique aquation attraction has waterskiing, kneeboarding, boating, and much more, all set against the beautiful natural backdrop of Orlando. If you’re worried about getting a handle on things, there’s no need to worry – you'll be accompanied by trained professionals to guide you through each class. Highly invigorating and a little different, this place is sure to scratch that itch to try something new.

For a truly engaging educational experience, why not head over to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex? Built onto the site of the Kennedy Space Center (so you know it’s for real), the institute offers a comprehensive view of the history of space travel. The exhibits cover everything you could possibly think of to do with outer space aviation; there’s a U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame, a garden with real rockets, and astronaut training simulators. In addition, you can attend talks held by veteran astronauts, happy to answer any questions you may have. As fascinating as it is fun, the museum provides a unique cultural experience quite like no other.

Learn Something New

Whilst Orlando may best be known for its famous theme parks, it’s also home to some wonderful cultural institutions perfect for those with curious minds. Founded by a group of art enthusiasts in 1924, the Orlando Museum of Art is a total must-see for all creative types. The establishment’s evolving collection of over 2,400 works includes everything from Contemporary Art to that of Ancient Americas. Upon entrance, visitors can enjoy exciting exhibitions covering everything from fine art and avant-garde sculpture to classical paintings. Look out for seminal pieces by Georgia O’Keeffe, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Andy Warhol.

Another one of our favorite solo activities for the city is visiting the Orlando Fire Museum. For firefighting fanatics and history lovers alike, the institute seeks to present the history of the city’s fire division in an interesting and educational manner. Walking through the museum is a fascinating experience; you’ll be able to spot differences in technology and design as you move each era. Amongst the institute's permanent collection, you can view antique tools and apparatus from as early as the 1900s. Still, the museum’s main draw is its impressive collection of vintage fire engines, showcasing how much things have changed. As intriguing as it is unique, we love this place because it’s impossible to leave without having learned something new.

Have Fun Outdoors

Since Florida is famed for its beautiful weather, it will come as no shock that Orlando is home to many lush green spaces. If you’re looking to spend some time in nature, look no further than Harry P. Leu Gardens. Years ago, the Leus travelled the world, bringing back a wide variety of exotic plants to fill the park. Thankfully, the garden still flourishes due to Florida’s subtropical climate, and is open for everyone to visit all year round! Covering over 50 acres, the garden features a tropical rain forest, a formal rose garden, a butterfly garden, and more. In addition, there are permanent and rotating art exhibits, and a historic home open for viewing. Whether you're looking to have a picnic or soak up the sun, this place has it all.

If strolling through stands of artisanal cheese and raw honey sounds good to you, then don’t worry – we've got you covered! Taking place every Saturday, the Winter Park Farmers’ Market is a total favorite for locals and visitors alike. Though this event is well-recognized for its fresh produce, its real draw is its many food purveyors, offering a wide variety of dishes from across the globe. Don’t miss out on hot chicken pot pies or Jamaican patties fresh from the oven, all washed down with a large glass of beer. Still, that isn’t all there is to see here. Walking around the market, you’ll find everything from souvenirs and trinkets to original art and jewellery. With its fun, laid-back energy, the market provides a totally fuss-free way to get to know the area. What more would we ask for?

Exploring a new city alone can sound a little daunting – still, with the right planning, it doesn’t have to be. Solo travel in Orlando can be wonderful, presenting an exciting mix of cool attractions and points of interest to be discovered. Looking for culture? Look no further than the Orlando Museum of Art. For those who want to get active, the Orlando Watersports Complex is your best bet. Orlando in July

Offering oodles of personality and a strong sense of adventure, Orlando brings more fun to the party than probably any other American vacation spot. The subtropical capital of the Southeast has long been a huge draw for anybody who's interested in visiting Disney World and Universal Studios, amongst others. Still, don’t let its reputation deceive you; Orlando has much to offer for every type of traveler. Apart from its famous theme parks, the city is truly magical in the summertime, offering many activities from shopping and kayaking to swimming with real bottlenose dolphins! If you’re planning to make the visit, use this guide as a starting block to help you plan your trip. Whatever you choose to do, we promise you won’t be disappointed! Hit the Local Attractions If you’re looking for something a little different, don’t worry – we've got you covered! Affiliated with NASA, the Kennedy Space Center seeks to foster fascination and intrigue in the beyond. Combining learning with fun, the center does a good job of breaking down complicated ideas and delivering them in a way that is both exciting and easily digestible. At the institute, you’ll be able to enjoy space memorabilia and exhibits of some astonishing rockets which were built by NASA. In addition, you can catch presentations from a real veteran astronaut! Whether you’re a scientifically inclined person or not, there’s no doubt that this place presents a thoroughly thrilling and unique encounter. There are so many fantastic attractions in Orlando, sometimes it can be overwhelming just choosing what to do there. Still, one of our resounding favorites is Discovery Cove for bringing nature one step closer to us. Owned and operated by Sea World, this place is known for housing a wide variety of marine animals, exotic birds, smaller mammals, and more. The park has a number of packages, but by far its most popular (and magical) one is their ‘’ultimate package’’, allowing visitors to swim with bottlenose dolphins for a day. We couldn’t even dream of a better way to spend a sunny summer’s afternoon! Orlando is a great place to be during the Fourth of July, with many of its famous theme parks celebrating in their own ways. Plus, what could be more American than Disney World on Independence Day? During the day, check out the Hall of Presidents, a robotic and cinematic display of every single United States leader. Then, come nightfall, head towards the emblematic Cinderella Castle to view a spectacular display to remember for years to come. A little bit kitschy and a whole lot of fun, this once-in-a-lifetime experience is a sure crowd-pleaser. See the City Orlando can get really hot around July – and we mean, like, really hot. For those who are trying to beat the heat, we recommend heading over to the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum. Since its establishment in 1942, this place has grown to become home to the world’s largest collection of works by Louis Comfort Tiffany. Amongst its permanent holdings, you’ll find everything from stained glass and lamps to jewelry and pottery, all under one roof. A great stop for all art lovers and creative types, this place perfectly proves that Orlando can do culture. Looking for a great way to beat the heat? Well, look no further! Popular with visitors and locals alike, the Mall at Millenia has over 150 stores to choose from, ranging from global luxury brands to favorite high street stores. In addition, this place offers great eateries across a wide array of cuisines. Whether you’re a serious shopper, just looking to browse, or hankering after a bite to eat, the Mall at Millenia is a great spot. Try Something Different Another one of our favorite things to do in the summertime is visit the zoo - because, well, who doesn’t love a good zoo, really? Located just north of the city, the Central Florida Zoo works to keep its visitors informed about the importance of conservation and caring for animals. Home to over 500 animals, the institution features an insect zoo, a reptile house, a butterfly garden, and so much more. This place also has a feeding and petting area, for those who want to get up close with their favorite furry (or slimy) friends. Don’t be afraid to ask any questions, as the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable, and always happy help. In addition, don’t forget to check out the botanical gardens, which are a sight to behold in themselves. Perfect for animal lovers and those fostering an intrigue for the natural world, this place provides an exciting experience for those of all ages. Orlando can be a lot of fun – in fact, sometimes too much fun. For those times when we’re feeling a little weary, we just find it helpful to take a day off from all of the excitement to rebuild our energy. Thankfully, for anybody who needs a break away from the city, Orlando’s surrounding landscape provides the perfect antidote. In fact, the area is home to one of the most phenomenal and unique ecosystems in the United States, just waiting to be discovered. Our favorite spot is the Tibet-Butler Preserve for its scenic landscape and wide range of activities available for visitors. There are hiking trails, beautiful trees, and even a butterfly garden to be enjoyed. Go kayaking, admire the wildlife, or sit back and soak up the sun – the world’s your oyster! A trip to Orlando in the summertime is a total classic that everybody should experience at least once in a lifetime. The best things to do in the city run the gamut – from incredibly fun to super relaxing. Looking to ride some of the best rollercoasters in the country? Well, you’re in luck, because Orlando is packed with America’s top theme parks! Hankering to get into nature? The surrounding area has beautiful wetlands and wildlife to be explored. But if it’s a quiet day in the museum that you’re after, the city presents no shortage of great cultural institutions. Your Guide to Orlando Airport

Everybody loves a good vacation to Orlando. From museums and other cultural institutions to beaches and the Everglades National Park, there’s no end of things to do. In fact, whether you’re a theme park junkie or the type who loves to explore the great outdoors, Central Florida has you covered. Of course, getting to Orlando is the first step in that amazing Florida vacation you’ve been planning. As a busy airport, Orlando (MCO) can be a bit challenging to navigate—especially for first-time visitors to the area and those traveling with little ones. Check out our handy guide to Orlando International Airport, including tips for how to navigate the airport with kids and basic info on how to get around... Orlando Airport Overview Orlando Airport serves 39 different airlines with both domestic and international destinations. Depending upon your airline, you will fly in and out of one of two terminals, A or B. If you need to know which terminal you’ll be in, you can consult the official airport website. Your ticket should also have this information clearly indicated. To help you navigate the airport and find your gate, we recommend consulting the terminal map. You will also need to use a monorail to get to your gate once you’re past security, but this can be a fun experience for the whole family—especially train-loving little kids! Orlando Airport Main Hub & Shopping There’s a main hub between the two terminals that can be a fruitful resource for gifts, toys, and a way to entertain antsy kids. There’s even an arcade (next to the kid magnet Natalie’s Candy Jar) that features both new and classic games. It can be a fun way for the kids to burn off steam, or for you all to play together. There are plenty of places to shop if you have time to kill or souvenirs left to collect, including a SeaWorld store, two Kennedy Space Center stores, two Universal stores with loads of Harry Potter merchandise, and two different Disney stores that have everything you could want. Disney’s Earport is located in the East Hall, and has a pin station where you can trade collectible Disney pins—a popular practice with Disney fanatics. The second store, Magic of Disney, is on the South Walk and boasts large themed screens that serve as great photo backdrops. This is the main place for shopping, and comes before the security gates, so keep that in mind when arriving or departing. If you’re leaving on a departing flight, you’ll need to fit all of your purchases into your luggage before going through security and boarding your flight. However, feel free to load up on separate bags if you’re heading out the front doors! Orlando Airport Security Like all airports, MCO employs standard security procedures as implemented by the TSA. That means you’ll need to make sure you have the right size toiletries, bring no liquids through with you except for medicine or breast milk, and remove all large electronics from your bags. One less common thing the Orlando Airport also requires is that you remove all food items from your non-checked bags. You can bring them through, just make sure they are accessible to take out when going through the line. If you are traveling with little ones, remember that the TSA does not require kids 12 and under to take off their shoes, light jackets, or hats. Babies must be taken out of their strollers and carried through the metal detector, although they can also be carried in a sling. For more information on getting through TSA screening procedures with your kids, check out their official guide to traveling with children. As one of the busiest airports in the country, Orlando Airport also often has tremendously long security lines. Please arrive well in advance of your flight time to make sure that you have time to get through. It can also help to be aware of carry-on restrictions and other policies before you travel to make sure that your time through to the other side isn’t an age and a half. Orlando Airport Dining Options If you arrive early enough at the airport before your departure and need to work in a meal or snack, rest assured—dining options of all stripes abound at MCO. Looking for something fast and inexpensive in the main terminal? Moe’s Southwest Grill and McDonald’s are easy choices at the Main Terminal Food Court. There are three restaurants at the attached Hyatt Regency, as well as a delicious Macaroni Grill, all of which provide more options than fast food. Sports fans may also want to check out the new City Pub, which features local beer and tasty food. It’s also an official supporting bar for the Orlando City Soccer Club, so it’s perfect for sports fans. Fortunately, City Pub is also a relaxed atmosphere that is suitable for kids. The dining options are more diverse once you get past security, including a Chipotle, Cibo Express, Wendy’s, Nathan’s, and an Outback Steakhouse, among several others. There are also some fun adult-friendly options like the upscale Cask & Larder, which brings a farm-to-table sensibility to MCO. If you’d like to review all of your dining options before your visit to see which would be the best for your family—especially those of you with any food allergies or specific diets—the Orlando Airport has conveniently provided a dining directory. Orlando Car Rentals, Shuttles, and Ride Share When arriving in Orlando and needing to find your way from the airport to your hotel or resort, you have multiple options. The most common option is to rent a car, especially if you are doing more than just Disney. Keep in mind that a high-traffic airport like Orlando will often run out of cars later in the day, so be sure to make your rental reservation in advance. Car rental companies are located on both A and B sides of the terminal on Level 1. For those of you who are headed to Disney, the Disney Magical Express is a shuttle that escorts arriving guests to their Disney resort. You’ll need to have your MagicBands ready to be scanned, but the trip is other a pretty painless way to get to your resort or hotel in the Disney-verse. If you’re looking for a taxi or ride share like Uber or Lyft, go to the Ground Transportation area on Level 1. Please note that there is a small fee charged for airport pick-ups that will be added onto your total bill. A good idea can be to look for coupons or deals before arriving to help you save, as the Orlando Airport isn’t very close to downtown and your fare could be quite high.   Orlando Airport Insider Tips The Orlando Airport has an official app—available for Android or Apple—that can be a smart choice for frequent flyers or anyone who likes the extra guidance. Don’t have a smartphone, or prefer not to download the app? There are plenty of interactive kiosks around the airport with the same helpful information. Arrive two to three hours before your flight departs to allow time to go through security and take advantage of the shopping and dining. If your flight arrives late and you have tired and grumpy kids, it may be easier and most cost-effective to stay at a hotel near or in the airport. The Hyatt Regency is an easy choice, as it’s located right in the center of the airport and offers good deals. Important: Once past security, you’ll need to choose one of the monorails to get you to your gate. If you pick the wrong one, you’ll have to take it back and go through security again, so be sure you know which one will head to your gate! Save on Orlando Attraction Tickets Once you’ve successfully made it through the Orlando Airport, it’s time to get down to exploring. If you’re interested in checking what Orlando has to offer beyond the major theme parks, a Go Orlando pass is a smart choice. You can save up to 50% on combined admission to top attractions like LEGOLAND® Florida, Madame Tussauds, SEA LIFE Aquarium, and many I-Drive activities. It’s a convenient digital pass that you get instant access to upon purchase, so whether you plan ahead or opt-in last minute, you can enjoy big savings. Happy travels! So grab an Orlando pass and make the most of your trip!
