This fun half-day outing to Lake Albano, a short trip from Rome, includes kayaking tuition plus complimentary pizza and soft drinks to keep your energy up.
The first thing you’ll notice as you take to the still waters of this sleepy volcanic lake is how quiet it is. Here, the familiar sounds of central Rome’s masses of motorized and human traffic are replaced with the soul-nourishing chatter of native birds and the gentle tinkle of your paddle as it breaks the lake’s glassy surface.
Steady the ship and sail on as your expert guide regales you with tales of the Bronze Age settlers who lived here 3,000 years ago and points out the ancient foundations of their stilt houses. You’ll also see the 2,000-year-old remains of Emperor Domitian’s lavish lakeside villa and an epic artificial drainage tunnel built by ingenious engineers of the Roman era.
The clifftop Palace of Castel Gandolfo, once a summer residence for popes, provides another picture-perfect highlight of the tour. From March to October, the tour even docks at a beach, where you can enjoy a cooling dip in the lake’s clear waters.
Go City is the best choice for maximum savings and flexibility when sightseeing in Rome. Your pass includes this kayak tour, plus admission to dozens of top attractions.
