Les activités incontournables
Quand on vient passer un week-end dans cette métropole américaine, on veut en profiter pour visiter quelques-uns des lieux incontournables. Faites un tour à Times Square pour admirer ses lumières et ses publicités géantes, connues dans le monde entier ! Puis remontez la 5ème Avenue jusqu’à Central Park, en passant devant la Cathédrale Saint-Patrick. Plus bas vous attend l’incroyable Empire State Building.
Au Sud de Manhattan, un bel itinéraire vous attend aussi, de Greenwich Village à Chinatown, puis jusqu’au Financial District où vous verrez passer les hommes d’affaires pressés de Wall Street.
A deux pas, le Battery Park est un lieu chargé d’histoire : c’est là que les immigrants débarquaient aux Etats-Unis, et foulaient pour la première fois le sol de Manhattan. L'embarcadère pour la Statue de la Liberté et pour Ellis Island se trouve également à cet endroit.
Le pont de Brooklyn est aussi un des incontournables : long de 1825 mètres, il a fallu quatorze ans pour le construire ! Avec ses deux piliers de granite, il est reconnaissable entre tous...traversez-le à pied ou en vélo, et vous arriverez dans l’un des boroughs new-yorkais préférés de l’équipe de Go City : Brooklyn, bien sûr. Baladez-vous à Dumbo et Williamsburg et admirez la skyline dessinée par les tours de Manhattan...c’est une vue qui restera gravée dans votre mémoire pour toujours !
Les merveilles culturelles
Visiter New York, c’est aussi avoir l’occasion de visiter quelques-uns des plus grands musées au monde ! Notons tout d’abord le Metropolitan Museum of Art, plus connu sous le nom de MET : ses collections recèlent plus deux millions de trésors. Pour l’art moderne et contemporain, c’est au MoMA que vous pourrez admirer des chefs d'œuvres connus dans le monde entier, comme La Nuit étoilée de Van Gogh, La Persistance de la mémoire de Dali ou Les Amants de Magritte. Enfin le musée Guggenheim est célèbre pour son intriguant bâtiment avant-gardiste et sa collection riche est variée.
Parmi les autres musées à ne pas louper, le Musée d’Histoire naturelle est impressionnant : vous y verrez des ossements de dinosaures, des animaux empaillés venus du monde entier, des pierres précieuses et des fossiles. Mention spéciale pour la baleine bleue grandeur nature qui trône à l’entrée du hall des océans.
L’histoire de New York a aussi été tragique, et le Musée et le mémorial du 11 septembre sont là pour nous le rappeler : rendez-vous dans ces lieux chargés d’histoire pour suivre le fil des attentats de 2001 et rendre hommage aux victimes.
Outre ces musées emblématiques, sachez qu’il en existe de nombreux autres, tous plus étonnants les uns que les autres ! Du Musée du gangster à l’Anti-musée Mmuseumm, en passant par le Musée de l’ascenseur ou ou celui de l’espionnage, le choix est immense et vous n’aurez pas le temps de vous ennuyer.
On aime aussi particulièrement le quartier de Bushwick, à Brooklyn : c’est une véritable galerie à ciel ouvert et une des capitales mondiales du street-art. A ne pas manquer.
Restos et vie nocturne
Le samedi et le dimanche, l’une des institutions gastronomiques new-yorkaises, c’est le brunch ! Vous devez impérativement tester cette tradition, à la croisée du petit déjeuner et du repas de midi, où tout est autorisé, aussi bien le sucré que le salé, les jus de fruits que les cocktails - mais les grandes stars, ce sont les pancakes et les œufs bénédictines...on en salive d’avance !
Comme il peut être parfois difficile de s’y retrouver parmi la multitude de restaurants spécialisés, voici quelques-uns de nos préférés : Dante (West Village), un charmant café italien vieux de près d’un siècle ; Diner (Williamsburg, Brooklyn) pour se régaler dans un décor atypique, un ancien wagon de train converti en restaurant ; ou encore Five Leaves (Greenpoint, Brooklyn), pour ses incroyables frites à la truffe.
Le soir, l’autre incontournable, ce sont les bars en rooftop, qui offrent un panorama incroyable sur New York et ses lumières. A Chinatown, nous vous conseillons The Crown et ses très bons cocktails ; la meilleure vue sur le Brooklyn Bridge, c’est chez Harriet’s Rooftop & Lounge ; et celle sur l’Empire State Building, c’est au 230 Fifth que vous l’aurez ; quant à Gallow Green c’est un véritable jardin suspendu. Ces bars sont tous assez chics, alors revêtez vos plus belles tenues afin de faire de l’ombre aux lumières de la ville !
Pour une soirée de spectacle, vous pouvez choisir parmi plusieurs options emblématiques de la ville. Les comédies musicales et les spectacles multi-arts se trouvent à Broadway, bien sûr ! Certaines productions jouent depuis des années et sont célèbres dans le monde entier. Pour une ambiance plus intimiste, pensez aux clubs de jazz, car New York est un des berceaux de ce style musical. Les bars les plus réputés sont situés dans les quartiers de Greenwich Village et Harlem.

Cette tour de 100 étages accueille les visiteurs sur sa plateforme d’observation qui jaillit au-dessus du vide. Réservé à ceux qui ont le cœur bien accroché et qui ne souffrent pas du vertige !
New York recèle aussi de salles de jeu et d’attractions, qui sont une alternative parfaite si vous voyagez en famille ou si vous voulez vous détendre entre amis. Central Park spans 843 acres, but don’t worry – if you want to go off-script and explore it on your own terms, you can get a sense of its culture and atmosphere. Outside of the tour, some of the top attractions here include the Strawberry Fields mosaic, Bethesda Fountain and Terrace, the Central Park Zoo, the Central Park Carousel, the Loeb Boathouse, and many more.

Day 2: Visit one place to see everything

Option #1: Empire State Building
Easily one of the most iconic structures in all of New York City, in a crowded field – the Empire State Building. Ascend to the Observatory on the 86th floor for some of the best views of all New York. A visit here first thing is an excellent way to orient yourself in the city at large. You’ll see everything from above before you explore the city on the ground.
Leave a little time to marvel at the interior and exterior of the building itself: its Art Deco style is very distinctive. Everyone entering this attraction is required to go through a security line, so plan additional time into your estimation. We recommend reserving at least an hour at this attraction (not including wait time).
Option #2: Visit the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)
This one is firmly on the ground, but a feast for the eyes nonetheless: spend a chilled hour or two at one of the most popular art museums in the country. The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is home to one of the greatest collections of modern art in the entire world. Some of the most famous works of art will be found in these galleries, including Andy Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup Cans, Van Gogh’s Starry Night, and Claude Monet’s Reflections of Clouds on the Water-Lily Pond.
You’ll also see works by the biggest names in contemporary art, from Jackson Pollack to Cindy Sherman and beyond. Come here prepared to be inspired! Be sure to check out the gift shop, too, for some unique presents.
Option #3: Discover the One World Observatory
After a day spent touring NYC's hotspots, see it all from above in the One World Observatory. Located on the top floor of the One World Trade Center building - 102 stories up - you'll zip to the top in the Skypod elevator in less than a minute, and be rewarded with incredible views that you can savor.
