The Key West Aquarium serves as a window into what lies beneath the surface. Come face-to-face with reef sharks, tropical fish, barracudas, and much more.

The aquarium aims to educate visitors on Florida’s ocean life and champions conservation efforts to save the sea turtles. Working with the Florida Sea Turtle Stranding Network, the aquarium houses and rehabilitates injured or sick turtles. There are currently several turtles calling the aquarium home as they are nursed back to full health.

To ensure you cover the most ground on your day at the aquarium, hop on one of the many tours that run every 20-30 minutes throughout the day.

Key West Aquarium highlights

There are several different types of tours you can go on while at the aquarium.

Touch Tank/Aquarium History - follow your tour guide to the interactive touch tanks. Feel the slimy backs of sting rays and trace the unique designs of each starfish while listening to the story of Key West Aquarium. It’s the first open-air aquarium ever opened in the United States. 

Atlantic Shores Interactive Feed - learn about the importance of the mangrove ecosystem and get a chance to feed some of the exhibit’s large fish for yourself. 

Shark Interactive Feeding - get up close and personal with the ocean’s most feared apex predator. Your guide will detail the importance of sharks in our waters while they chow down on their favorite feasts. 

Sea Turtle Conservation Tour - see how Key West Aquarium does its part in ocean conservation – from rehabilitating sea turtles and beyond. 

Stingray Interactive Feedings - interact with the stingrays by feeding and petting their smooth and slimy backs. They aren’t as dangerous as they seem. 

The Atlantic Shores Exhibit - explore this 50,000-gallon tank that replicates a mangrove environment full of tropical and game fish.
