The San Diego Zoo Is Rocking All Summer Long During Nighttime Zoo

The San Diego Zoo’s rocking summertime celebration is in full swing, and guests are invited to join in on all the fun and excitement, with numerous evening festivities. This year’s Nighttime Zoo presented by your San Diego County Toyota Dealers offers a lot to see and do—featuring African-themed entertainment, toe-tapping music, surprising encounters, stilt walkers, exceptional acrobatic feats and much more. New this year, guests will get the chance to step into a different world by interacting with the Villagers of Africa Rocks. This entertainment group, with an African flare, will treat audiences to a variety of traditional music and dance. The Zoo’s “fearless leader of fun” Dr. Zoolittle and our Zoo characters will debut their brand-new show, “Dr. Zoolittle and Friends Explore Africa,” at the Koalafornia Boardwalk; and the super-bouncy acrobats are back with “New Friends Rock!,” an exciting new trampoline show with astonishing acrobatics that may leave audiences breathless—with laughter. Old favorites have returned, such as the always-popular Zoolahoops—and enthusiastic emcees will once again wow the crowd with fun and games fit for everyone, in Centennial Plaza. On the Front Street Stage, the phenomenal Rock and Roar band will get guests rocking out to popular songs spanning the decades. The hip-hop dancing Funky Monkeys will get audiences moving to their zany groove, while the Chameleons brass band, whose tunes change like their namesake changes colors, will put a smile on everyone’s face with their musical stylings and wacky jokes. Don’t forget to stop by Albert’s Restaurant in Lost Forest and enjoy items from the limited-time “Happy Happens” $6 and $7 food and cocktail menu from 3 to 5 p.m.; and you can always enjoy an ice-cold beverage at Zoo Brews, near the Orangutan exhibit. Nighttime Zoo concludes with “Jambo!,” an electrifying 20-minute procession along Front Street. This remarkable extravaganza, led by the Chameleons, mixes music and the spectacular pageantry of our handcrafted puppets to channel the vibe, vitality and diversity of life on the continent of Africa. Nighttime Zoo runs now through Sept. 4, 2017. Most activities get started at 4 p.m. The Zoo closes at 8 p.m. June 18–June 30and Aug. 20–31; and at 9 p.m. July 1–Aug. 19 and Sept. 1–4.
