Labor Day Travel Deals

Some you may already have your last vacation of the summer planned, from airline tickets right down to the itemized list of things to do Labor Day weekend. However, a lot of you may have not gotten that far yet. Either you’re just now getting the time and head-space to start thinking about that trip, or you’re waiting for those late-game travel deals. While I can’t get the kids out of your hair, fortunately, I can help you out with the latter! Here are a few tips for getting deals and discounts on your Labor Day vacation.

Discount Air, Train, or Bus Fare

Whatever mode of travel you prefer, tickets can often be expensive, especially around the holidays. Since Labor Day weekend is one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, how do you find an affordable rate? If you’re not already on a mailing list for a site like Expedia, you should join one. They can alert you to decreased fares to your favorite destinations, including last-minute deals on upcoming flights. If you have a favorite airline, it’s also a good idea to be on their mailing list because you’ll hear about special sales and discounts first. A general rule of thumb is to also be away of every discount you are eligible for – senior citizen, student, military service, AAA, etc. Plus, airlines and the like WANT you to travel on Labor Day, so they’ll do their best to make it worth your while.

Multi-attraction Passes These are a must for any kind of vacation. They’ll provide discounted admission to practically anything you’d want to do, whether it’s surfing in Oahu or museum-hopping in New York City. Go City Cards come with full-color guidebooks including maps, directions, operating hours, contact information, and all the pertinent details for all included attractions. You’ll even get special exclusive discounts on things like shopping and dining in your destination – it’s the perfect way to save money on all the things you want to do – and some you didn't even think of! Plus, there’s a special sale on right now for Go City Cards and New York Explorer Passes, so it’s a good time to grab them while you can.

Discount Hotels Aside from airfare, hotels are often the highest expense of the trip. If you’re looking to save on your hotel for Labor Day, be sure to visit the discount hub sites like Hotels.com and Priceline. Both of these sites offer special deals through a variety of methods, and especially last-minute deals on rooms that hotels are really trying to fill. You can also true to use any reward points you may have accumulated but be aware that some types of reward systems have “blackout dates” that will usually include holidays.

Dining Deals

Another unavoidable expense of travel is usually the dining. Even if you’re staying someplace with a kitchen you can use, chances are you going to be out and about most of the time. Plus, who really wants to cook on vacation? If you’re looking to save some money on your meals out, you can scout ahead for things like Groupon or Living Social, which are discount coupon sites that include several restaurants in their program. If you’re looking to consolidate paperwork and get a bit more bang for your buck, Go City Cards also include exclusive discounts to some of the most popular visitor-friendly restaurants and require no extra passes or e-mails to redeem. It also helps to look through sites like Yelp for quality restaurants that may be in less-touristy areas, as those are always going to be a bit pricier. So those are the big four expenses of traveling. Once you've secured airfare and lodging, snag a Go City Card for discounts on all the best attractions and fun restaurants. Plus, Go City Cards can even help you out in the souvenir department with their shopping discounts!
