In fact, exciting options abound in practically every entertainment category. Enjoy the fountains at the Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade. Explore the city on a river taxi. Cancun
If you’re looking for a tropical paradise in the middle of January, Cancun should be at the top of your list. With warm (but not scorching) temps, you can truly enjoy the best watersports, sunbathing, hiking, adventuring, and more. We especially love unique opportunities like a dolphin encounter or an excursion to an ancient Maya ruin. You can also partake in some classic vacay activities, like parasailing, ziplining, swimming, snorkeling, and sailing. Sydney
The great thing about Sydney in January is that it’s not winter there. Visit this stunning metropolitan city to enjoy the best in urban amenities, cultural attractions, and beachy fun all in one amazing package. It’s also a city with a few great neighborhoods, making it easy to enjoy one part of the city for a whole day, and so on. Perfect for long or short vacations! Tour the iconic Sydney Opera House. Stroll along Bondi Beach. Get out of the city for some zip-lining. See the city from above at the Sydney Tower Eye. Dubai
Dubai is one of those unique destinations that’s basically hot all the time, but it’s a good kind of hot in January—not the burning, unbearable heat they have in the summer. You can actually enjoy the beautiful, sparse desert scenery, the gleaming urban landscape, and the food, music, and culture without worrying about getting sun poisoning! A must-do is the Burj Khalifa from a touristy perspective, but there are also plenty of warm-weather activities to enjoy. Splash, play, or lay back and relax at Aquaventure Waterpark. Go parasailing or kayaking; hop aboard a cruise or dhow boat; or try your hand at windsurfing or stand-up paddleboarding. It’s all available in the alluring Emirate. Average High Temps: 75 F / 24 C
Miami
Florida is one of the top January destinations for visitors from around the globe, and Miami is up there (along with Orlando; more on that below) as a top spot for winter getaways. Simply put, the weather is near-perfect, with little rain and low humidity. It’s the best time to visit this appealing city, with its delectable cuisine, inspiring arts, and active tourism scene. For the artsy folks, there are plenty of museums, galleries, and performance venues in Miami. For those who love the water, try a cruise or Duck Boat tour. If you’re an animal lover, you’ll want to check out Jungle Island or the Miami Seaquarium. Want to get even farther south for some more heat? Try a day trip to Key West from Miami! Orlando
Another popular centerpiece of many January vacations is Orlando. With lower room rates and airfare just after the December holiday season, January starts the beginning of a great time of year to visit the theme park capital of the world. Even if you aren’t planning on doing Disney, though, there is plenty to enjoy in this hot destination. We like LEGOLAND® Florida for families with young children or the Kennedy Space Center for all the kids—big and little—who always dreamed of going to space.
