Top Ski Areas Near Boston

Nashoba Valley, Westford, MA:

Distance from Boston: 29 miles Highlights: Less than a half hour outside of Boston, Nashoba Valley Ski Resort offers 17 trails and 10 lifts for all levels of skiers. Prices are reasonable, with $50 weekend full-day lift tickets for adults. Nashoba is also home to the largest tubing park in New England.

Bradford Ski Area, Bradford, MA:

Distance from Boston: 37 miles Highlights: If you’ve got beginners in tow, Ski Bradford is a good place to go. With very affordable ticket prices, (just $37 for a full-day adult ticket on any weekday). There’s also a great package for beginners that includes a lesson, rental gear, and a lift ticket. More thrill-seeking skiers may opt for tougher terrain.

Wachusett Mountain, Princeton, MA:

Distance from Boston: 55 miles Highlights: Massachusetts’ biggest skiing destination also happens to be the most accessible to Bostonians, as the MBTA offers weekend service to the resort from North Station. With 22 trails ranging in difficulty, Wachusett is suitable for both beginners and more experienced skiers seeking a bit of a challenge.

Crotched Mountain, Bennington, NH:

Distance from Boston: 78 miles Highlights: With 25 total trails and 5 high-tech chair lifts, Crotched Mountain is a prime destination for both half-day ski trips and week-long vacations. One really unique thing about Crotched Mountain is that the ski trails are open and fully lit until 3 AM on weekends, which attracts a lot of the younger crowd. A 40,000-foot ski lodge with numerous food and beverage offerings also adds to the fun factor.

Mounta Sunapee, Newbury, NH:

Distance from Boston: 100 miles Highlights: This is the closest you can get to “big mountain skiing” within a two-hour radius of Boston. With 1,510 feet of vertical, it’s also probably the highest vertical drop you’ll find in the area. Beautiful views of Lake Sunapee, 66 trails of various degrees of difficulty, and a number of charming lodges make Mount Sunapee a skier’s paradise. While lift prices are a bit more expensive, you get what you pay for.
