Shedd Aquarium

One of Chicago's best family-friendly attractions is the Shedd Aquarium, one of the top-rated aquariums in the country. It's the perfect place to spend a day with the kids! Filled with tens of thousands of fascinating marine creatures, there is no end to the wonders you’ll discover at this attraction. Exhibits include the fascinating Waters of the World, the festive Caribbean Reef, and the delightfully kid-centric Polar Play Zone.

360 CHICAGO

aerial-image-chicago-illinois-skyline

Get away from it all on the 94th floor of the Hancock Building. The 360 CHICAGO observation deck is the perfect place for panoramic views of Lake Michigan, the bustling city below, and even glimpses of the Illinois plains. Kids and parents alike will enjoy the chance to be 1000 feet above the city, and there are plenty of interactive and educational exhibits for the children to enjoy. Not to mention how many photo ops you'll have with such a breathtaking view!

360 CHICAGO also has another attraction at the top. TILT is an all-glass, moving balcony that extends out from the side of the observation deck. Once you step onto TILT, the deck will move slowly to give you new vantage points of the city. Its convenient location on Michigan Avenue (the Magnificent Mile) also makes it easy to build a visit here into a broader itinerary.

Please note: TILT is separately ticketed.

Field Museum

Field Museum

Part of the famed Chicago Museum Campus, The Field Museum is one of the best institutions for children and adults. You’ll find that their endlessly intriguing collections have much to offer, from Maximo, the largest Titanosaur ever discovered, to minerals and gemstones to an extensive collection of ancient Chinese art and artifacts.

The kids will love learning in the DNA Discovery Center, playing in the Underground Adventure, and exploring our Evolving Planet. Your pass gives you a general admission ticket and also includes a special exhibit.

Big Bus Chicago Hop-on Hop-off Bus Tour

Whether you’re a first-time visitor to Chicago or a returning veteran, sometimes all you need is a good bus tour to get you going. Join Hop On Hop Off Big Bus on their informative and entertaining tour of Chicago, which covers many of the major highlights while traveling between 14 different stops. Get off where you’d like to explore further.

You can even use the bus to get to attractions like those at Museum Campus (although do be aware that traffic may get in the way of arriving at any place in a timely manner). This double-decker bus tour will be perfect for you and the family to see all of the city and get an overview.

Museum of Science and Industry

museum-science-industry-chicago

Head to a new area of Chicago with a visit to Hyde Park on the South Shore. The Museum of Science and Industry will more than make your transit time worthwhile! This kid-centric museum is filled with educational exhibits, interactive spaces, and hands-on activities. Some of our favorite attractions within this museum (the largest science museum in the country, by the way) include a real German submarine from WWII, an Illinois coal mine, and a challenging mirror maze.

Kids will adore the Pixar-inspired special exhibit, "The Science Behind Pixar". They can get a unique look at the process behind some of their favorite characters, learn about the technology, and see how these movies get made!

Adler Planetarium

adler-planetarium-located-downtown-chicago

Another star of the Museum Campus is the Adler Planetarium. A longtime family favorite, this stellar attraction is the place to explore everything from the surface of the moon to the furthest reaches of space. Your all-access pass includes exciting exhibits like Mission Moon, Planet Explorers, Our Solar System, and many more.

You’ll also get access to the historic Atwood Sphere, Chicago’s oldest and most storied planetarium. Plus, get to see unlimited shows like the new Planet Nine.

Navy Pier & Centennial Wheel

daytime-photo-navy-pier-centennial-wheel

The centerpiece of your family vacation to Chicago really should be a visit to Navy Pier. This delightful wonderland is filled with exciting attractions and things to do for families with kids of all ages, with options like theater performances, bike rides, boat cruises, museums, and many more.

One of our favorite things to do is to hop aboard the famed Centennial Wheel – Chicago’s signature Ferris wheel (which you can also spot from 360 CHICAGO). You can also dine, shop, and people-watch to your heart’s content.

Chicago Children’s Museum

If you’re stringing together an itinerary from our ideas, the Chicago Children’s Museum is conveniently located right on Navy Pier. Primarily designed for younger and middle-grade children, this educational institution is all about creative thinking and interactive fun. Exhibits are geared towards teaching children an important skill or set of information while remaining entertaining.

Dinosaur Expedition, for example, allows kids to dig for 'fossils' while learning about a real prehistoric creature, paleontology, and about natural history. As a bonus, they have extended hours in the summer, too, so there will be more time to explore with the kids.

The Escape Game Chicago

Take the clan along to The Escape Game Chicago and put your teamwork and problem-solving skills to the test. There won't be any time to argue, as you'll have just 60 minutes to solve the challenge and escape before it's too late.

This activity is perfect for any weather and there are several themed challenges for you to choose from, including The Heist, where you’ll recover a stolen painting using the help of an intelligence agent, and Mission Mars, where you’ll work together to repair a spaceship.

The Escape Game Chicago is recommended for ages 13 and up, but younger players are allowed in if accompanied by an adult.

Brookfield Zoo

giraffes-brookfield-zoo-suburb-near-chicago

What’s not to love about Chicagoland’s largest and most popular zoo? Brookfield Zoo is a bit of a drive from downtown Chicago but is a delightful place for families to visit in the summer. You’ll get to encounter some of the world’s most amazing animals right in America’s heartland.

Dive deep into the oceans and watch the dolphins at Seven Seas, get eye-to-eye with grizzlies, and learn more about the intelligent primates of the rainforest at Tropic World.

Millennium Park & Lurie Garden

skyline-millennium-park-downtown-chicago-illinois

Another must-visit on your trip to Chicago is Millennium Park. The heart of downtown Chicago, this massive urban green space is filled with fun things to do, like the Art Institute of Chicago, another great family attraction for art lovers. There are sculptures to see including the Bean, and interactive art pieces to enjoy – the Crown Fountain is a favorite in the summer.

You can also roam the Lurie Garden, a free outdoor botanical garden that grows beautiful plants year-round. It’s a great place to learn about nature, and makes for some fun photos, too!

In Chicago for NASCAR 2025? Then read this!

Have you heard? NASCAR's returning to the streets of Chicago for another spectacular race. On the weekend of July 5-6, the Windy City will play host to this special Grant Park event, featuring two days of racing, music, and much more!  With plenty going on to mark the occasion, there's no better time to visit. Whether you're heading to the race or just vacationing in Chi-town that weekend, we're here to get you up to speed on all you need to know about the event.  Read on for some handy tips on navigating Chicago during NASCAR Street Race 2024! Where is NASCAR Chicago taking place? Grant Park in Downtown Chicago is where you’ll find most of the weekend’s action. The actual race days are Saturday July 5 and Sunday July 6. How easy will it be to get around Chicago that weekend? During and on the lead up to the event, you can expect some road closures, parking restrictions and traffic diversions around Grant Park. The latest traffic information can be found on the NASCAR website. Be sure to check this before you travel! If you're planning on sightseeing in Chicago around this time, we recommend allowing for extra travel time between attractions, as public transport and roads are expected to be a bit busier than normal. If you can, explore on foot. It'll be your best option in most cases. Will Chicago's attractions be open during NASCAR Chicago Street Race? If you’ve bought a Chicago pass from Go City, you may be wondering whether or not the Street Race will affect local businesses' opening hours. With many of Chicago’s top attractions such as Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium and the Field Museum being located around Grant Park, that's a fair question. It’s likely that attractions will have reduced opening hours during the race days, and some may close for the weekend. If you plan on using our pass between late June and early July, we recommend you check each attraction's page on our website or app directly for the latest information on opening hours and closures. Are there still tickets available for NASCAR Chicago Street Race? If you want to get in on the action, tickets are still available for the racing event of the year! Weekend tickets start from $187pp, giving you access to all the racing and music action.  Premium access tickets are also available if you’ve got some extra cash to splash. All options can be purchased on the official website. Is it worth going to the NASCAR Chicago Street Race? With all ticket options, you'll get access to a snazzy trackside vantage point to watch the races. Saturday’s race – The Loop 110 – is a 50-lap extravaganza taking place over 110 miles, and Sunday's event – the Grant Park 165 – is a 75-lap race over 220 miles. As well as the race, enjoy a live performance from the multi-platinum, GRAMMY® Award-winning, Zac Brown Band. Are there any free NASCAR events I can go to? If you're not too bothered about seeing the race up close, you can still enjoy the exciting atmosphere of the event by heading to Butler Park, where there will be free festival activities, without the pricey admission ticket. And if NASCAR's not your thing, there are still plenty of top attractions and experiences in Chicago to be found with Go City! Where's best to eat and drink near Grant Park? If you've got tickets to the race, NASCAR's got you covered for food and drinks. They're promising plenty of delicious foodie options within the event! If you're just looking to be near the action, Downtown Chicago has literally endless options for wining and dining. First off, we recommend you make your way to Eleven City Diner, where you can load up on big plates of classic breakfast food. For lunch on the move, we recommend hitting Devil Dawg's South Loop venue and grabbing a loaded Chicago-style hotdog. Sticking with Chicago classics, if you'd rather a sit-down meal, we cannot hype up Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria's deep dishes enough! When evening rolls around, there's nowhere we'd rather be than The Gage. With its large mahogany bar, well-poured pints of Guinness, and sage green tiles, this gastropub has all the makings of a great Irish bar. Check out this handy resource guide to find more dining spots that are close to the race.  What other events are taking place in Chicago? NASCAR aside, July is a great time to be in Chicago, with plenty of summer celebrations to keep you busy. You've got the award-winning Grant Park Music Festival starting from July 12 and taking place on select weekends. Down by Navy Pier, there's the fabulous Live on the Lake event, which runs throughout the summer. Here, you can enjoy great live music against a backdrop of gorgeous lakeside scenery - and it's totally free! If you're in the Windy City in early August, you can't miss Lollapalooza – Chicago's world-famous music festival, with Olivia Rodrigo, Tyler the Creator and Sabrina Carpenter headlining. Things to do in Chinatown Chicago

Welcome, readers! The windy city beckons you, so gather round and let me tell you tales of the city's wonders. Long ago, Chinese immigrants came over to this country. Their aim? To help realize the modern America we know and love today. To put it simply, this country would be very different if it wasn't for Chinese immigrants. That's why they settled in many cities, and why Chicago has its own Chinatown. So, now you know the mightily abridged version of history, how about the present? Well, Chinatown is full of wonderful things to do, and thanks to us, you now have this handy guide to, well, guide you. Let's get on with it, shall we? These are the best things to do in Chinatown, Chicago. Including: Chinatown Square Nine Dragon Wall PopKTV Ping Tom Memorial Park Water taxis and more! Chinatown Square Let's kick things off with a shopping extravaganza. Chinatown Square is a two-story mall that was built on the site of an old railyard back in the '90s. The third-largest Chinese mall in the country, Chinatown Square is packed with local businesses, where you can buy food, beauty products, clothes, and then sit down for a traditional meal at one of the many restaurants within. They even put on performances there during the summer, if you happen to be stopping by in the warmer months. And make sure to snap some pics of the twelve statues of the Chinese zodiac you'll find. Chinese-American Museum of Chicago Did our intro pique your interest in Chinese-American history? First of all, good. Secondly, why not check out the Chinese-American Museum of Chicago? You will find a bunch of exhibits that give you insight into Chinese culture. There's also an entire exhibition dedicated to Chinese immigrants, which follows the journey they made across the Pacific, where they settled, and what it's like for an immigrant to live in Chicago. A definite eye-opener, and one of the best things to do in Chicago's Chinatown for inquisitive minds! Nine Dragon Wall For another social-worthy pic, be sure to head to the Nine Dragon Wall. This recreation of China's original wall may not have been commissioned by the Emperors, but it is simply awe-inspiring nonetheless! Featuring mythical Chinese creatures, and the eponymous 9, which is said to promote long life, it's a great stop on your Chinatown tour of Chicago. So go get snapping, and make your friends devilishly jealous. PopKTV Fancy a little entertainment on your visit to Chinatown? Go check out PopKTV, Chinatown's premier karaoke spot. There, you can hire a private room for you and your friends, have a few drinks to calm your nerves, and then belt out awful renditions of your favorite songs to your heart's content. If you're in the mood to impress, or disgust, your friends, it's the perfect spot to flex your cords. Chicago Chinese Cultural Institute Another stop on your culture trip is the Chicago Chinese Cultural Institute, which was created to introduce Chinese learning programs to US schools, including cultural and language studies. Nowadays, it's better known for its many tours of Chinatown, where you'll be taken around some of its best spots, and learn about the culture and heritage surrounding it. They also offer cooking and meditation classes, among others. So go check them out, and see if anything sounds interesting. Ping Tom Memorial Park Ping Tom was a Chinese-American businessman, who worked as a trustee and director of many programs that benefited Chinatown, where he grew up. Spearheading plans to create this park, when he suddenly died of pancreatic cancer, they decided to name it after him! Now, it's a hotspot for watersports, features an indoor activity center with a pool, gym, and other amenities, and is a great place to relax on a warm summer's day. And, if you want to get there in style, check out the next entry on our list! Take a water taxi How does taking to the waves and getting ferried about sound? If you're into that, then you absolutely must try a water taxi. In summer, these wave riders are the community's most popular transport, helping would-be travelers cross the Chicago River and enter Chinatown. Slow and steady wins the race in this case, as you won't be hopping on any speedboats. Make the most of your journey. Relax, enjoy it. You'll have the chance to see some of Chicago's most recognizable landmarks by the river, and if you fancy visiting Ping Tom Memorial Park, you can get a ride directly to it! Easily one of the most unique things you can do in Chinatown, Chicago. Old Chinatown No Chinatown experience would be complete without a visit to Old Chinatown. Its entrance flanked by red, welcoming pillars; step into the world of old and admire the architecture and beauty within. So much history went into the creation of Old Chinatown that every mural, every building, and every street tells a story. You're sure to find teahouses to get refreshed, food stalls to refuel, and independent shops selling any number of worthy nick-nacks. Hoypoloi Gallery In Greek, hoi polloi simply referred to 'the people.' But today, it is considered a derogatory phrase, often associated with the 'unwashed masses' or 'riffraff.' But Hoypoloi Gallery turns that phrase on its head, to its advantage. This gallery specializes in unique art pieces that anyone can purchase. You'll find a weird and wide variety of artworks there, including leftfield takes on Disney classics, sculptures of famous cultural icons with a strange twist, and much more. So, if you're in Chinatown and in the market for some weird art, go check it out! Grab a delicious bite to eat And, finally, we end with food. Glorious food. Chinese cuisine is one of the world's favorites, and you'll find plate loads of it in Chicago's Chinatown! The Golden Bull is your one-stop-shop for everything Chinese, with pages upon pages of traditional Chinese cuisine waiting to be tasted! Or, if you want some delicious dim sum, check out Cai with its classy vibe and perfectly put-together plates. Alternatively, if you're in the market for seafood, head over to Emperor's Choice. Those are just a few of the many restaurants you'll find in the area, so no matter what you're feeling like, there's bound to be something to fill your belly! And that's our list of the best things to do in Chinatown, Chicago!
