This spectacular award-winning experience focuses on the 1916 Easter Rising and modern Irish history. Learn the fascinating stories through authentic artefacts, personal tales and photographs, electronic touch screens, and video and audio booths. Don't miss the specially created centrepiece film that puts you right in the middle of the action during the Rising as it happened at the GPO.

Thomas F. Meagher Exhibition

An exhibition on the Irish flag, which commemorates the first flying of the Irish Tricolour in 1848 by Thomas F. Meagher.

GPO Museum facts

  • The GPO building was the communications hub of Ireland and served as headquarters to those taking part in the 1916 Easter Rising
  • The façade is all that remains of the original building, the rest being destroyed by a fire in the Easter Uprising
  • It was one of the last Georgian buildings erected in the capital in 1814
