Glasnevin Cemetery Museum

Sure, a day at the cemetery might not sound like prime tourism but Glasnevin Cemetery's out to prove that theory wrong. This restored 19th Century graveyard is the final resting of some of Ireland's most iconic figures including revolutionary Daniel O'Connell and the on-site museum is a great for those wanting to learn more about Irish history. For those of you with Irish heritage, head over to the Genealogy Research Centre to trace your lineage through the centuries and then slip off the side gate into the National Botanic Gardens. National Gallery of Ireland

To understand a culture is to understand its art and there's no better place to begin than the National Gallery of Ireland, which has showcased artists since 1852. Boasting a rich collection of both Irish and European fine art spanning over 15,000 works, it'll be easy to spend hours poring over Caravagios and leading Irish artist masterpieces in a beautifully curated space. Malahide Castle and Gardens

Stay out of the rain and take a journey to the past at the sprawling Malahide Castle, one of the oldest castles in Ireland dating all the way back to the 12th century. Constructed by the Talbot family, the structure has a long and complex history worth delving into and even if history isn't your thing, the beautiful gardens with several glasshouses deserve a good roam around.
