The Jeanie Johnston tells the story of the thousands of Irish people who fled the famine and embarked on a treacherous voyage in the hope of a better life in North America. Kaziranga Forest Trail

Immerse yourself in Dublin Zoo&rsquo;s wonderful Asian rainforest and spot our breeding elephant herd. With pools, dramatic rock formations and a waterfall all surrounded by a dense forest of trees and bamboo, the Kaziranga Forest Trail is a wonderful natural environment created with the needs of the elephants in mind.

Visitors can see our expanding family of Asian elephants, Matriarch Bernhardine (born 1984) and her daughter Asha (born May 2007), and Bernhardine&rsquo;s sister Yasmin (born 1990), her daughter Anak (born 2003)&nbsp;and three calves born in 2014 Kavi, Ashoka and Samiya. Asha&rsquo;s daughter Zinda born in September 2016 and the youngest calf born in March 2017!

Orangutan Forest

The highly anticipated Orangutan Forest is now open! The Orangutan Forest was inspired by the natural environment of the Bornean orangutans in the tropical rainforests of Borneo. Visitors can admire the most spectacular feature of the new habitat which features eleven trees, between 7 and 12 meters high that encourage the orangutans&rsquo; natural climbing behaviour.

The Orangutan Forest is home to Sibu, his mate Leonie, their daughter Riona and niece Mujur, born in Dublin Zoo in 2005. The orangutans share the habitat with siamang gibbons, also found in South East Asia.&nbsp;

African Savannah

Explore the African desert and Southern white rhinos wandering around their grassy savanna home, as giraffes and ostrich roam wild whilst zebras graze on nearby bushes. Visitors can also admire the endangered scimitar-horned oryx who are extinct in the wild &ndash; right in the centre of Dublin!

One of the finest areas in Castletown, the entrance hall is breath-taking in its style. Two storeys tall, the hall immediately evokes the grandeur present throughout the house. Despite its role as the central atrium of the house, it was filled with furniture and was later used as a reception room thanks to the impressive first impression it gave with its polished chequered limestone floor and marble fireplace.

William Conolly&rsquo;s state bedroom

Based on the French style at the Palace of Versailles, Conolly wanted his bedroom suites designed for both repose and entertainment with a series of interconnecting rooms allowing him to receive guests as well as retire in private. Although the room was turned into a library in the 19th century, it has since been restored to its original use. Visitors will be able to see 18th-century Venetian chairs as well as a Flemish 17th-century rosewood cabinet.

Don&rsquo;t be fooled by Casino Marino&rsquo;s compact exterior; it&rsquo;s just the first of many tricks this 18th-century pleasure house has up its sleeve. In fact, this Tardis-like building conceals a mind-boggling 16 rooms across three floors, including kitchens, servants&rsquo; rooms and a state bedroom.

Designed by William Chambers for James Caulfeild, 1st Earl of Charlemont, in the mid-18th Century, Casino Marino is a gem of neo-classical architecture. There&rsquo;s a chance to admire the building&rsquo;s decorative stonework, soaring columns and stone lions before stepping into the entrance hall with its polished wooden floors, grand marble fireplace and imposing portrait of Caulfeild.&nbsp;

Each of the rooms around the house is decorated in a similarly elegant style. The Great Windmill

The Windmill in Skerries called the &#39;five sail&#39; is a product of its times and is reflective of the popular tower mill style of the 18th and 19th centuries. Skerries&rsquo; Great Mill is a five sail mill and measures 49 feet high and is home to a wide range of machinery from sieves, shakers and blowers, as well as grinding stones and a sack-hoist.

The Small Windmill

The older of the two, this small windmill was built on the site of a prehistoric fort and is at the summit of Skerries town. Visitors can go inside and can witness the inner mechanics working as the sails power the grinding stones turning grains into flour.

A 15-minute drive from the capital and at the foothills of the Dublin Mountains, Airfield Estate in Dundrum is a working dairy farm complete with woodlands, a vineyard and&nbsp;greenhouse gardens.&nbsp;From 1894 to 1993, it was the family home and working farm of the enterprising and generous Overend sisters, Letitia and Naomi, who left Airfield in 1994.

Ancient Egypt exhibition

The majority of Egyptian artifacts were acquired from excavations carried out in Egypt between the 1890s and the 1920s and range in date from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages. The exhibition includes finds collected by Irish travelers such as Lady Harriet Kavanagh.

Among the most important objects exhibited are the gilt and painted cartonnage case of the mummy Tentdinebu dated to the 22nd Dynasty c. 945 - 716 BC; the mummy portraits of a woman and a young boy from Hawara dated to the first/second century AD; and a model of a wooden boat dated to the early 12th Dynasty c. 1900 BC. There is also a number of important stelae, tomb furniture, offering tables, jewelry and household equipment.

The National Museum&rsquo;s Egyptian collection comprises about three thousand objects including important stelae, tomb furniture, offering tables, jewelry, household equipment and more.

Ceramics &amp; Glass from Ancient Cyprus

This exhibition focuses on Cypriot artifacts in the collection of the National Museum of Ireland, many of which have never been exhibited before. Most of the pieces are ceramic and probably come from tombs uncovered in the 19th Century. The artifacts range in date from the Bronze Age, approximately 2500 BC, to the late Roman period, about 300 AD, and are arranged chronologically. The exhibition also includes five clay figurines on loan from the Cyprus Museum, Nicosia.
