5 Days in Orlando

Published: July 18, 2024

With so much to see, do and experience in sunny Orlando, it should come as no surprise that the city is one of America’s top tourist destinations. The best things to do in the area run the gamut – from out-of-this-world fun to greatly educational. Those seeking a little adventure are sure to find it here – with famous theme parks like Disney World and Universal Studios right at your fingertips, you’ll never be bored. Or, how about soaking up the sun at Orlando’s unique nature reserves? If you still have time to venture downtown, make sure to check out the fantastic cultural institutions in the area and grab a bite at some of the city’s best restaurants. Whatever your pleasure, you’re sure to find something for you. Still, don’t worry if it's all a little bit overwhelming – that's what we’re here for! If you’re planning to make the visit, check out our list of the best things to do in the area. Let’s get started!

Day 1 - See The Sites

Image of Lamp,

Travelling can be exhausting for many, which is why we’re starting off with something a little more low-key. If you’re looking for a relaxed day trip to kick off your vacation in the City Beautiful, look no further than the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. As fascinating as it is engaging, this museum works to present a comprehensive view of space travel and aviation for a broad audience. The center is divided into ‘’Mission Zones’’, each focusing on different areas of space travel – from the Race to the Moon to the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame, this place has all the bases covered. Still, if you’re coming to step into the shoes of a real astronaut, you won’t be disappointed. Perhaps the institute’s biggest draw, the institute’s Shuttle Launch Experience recreates a rocket’s takeoff into orbit. Offering a fantastic educational experience for those of all ages, we couldn’t think of a better way to spend our first afternoon in the city.

Come evening time, we recommend checking out Universal CityWalk where the fun never stops coming. Drawing in the crowds all throughout the year, this popular tourist attraction is known for providing world-class entertainment, shopping and dining options of all kinds. Before grabbing a bite to eat, we recommend checking out some of the fun activities available; challenge your friends and family with a game of minigolf, catch a movie at the Cinemark theater, or even partake in a spot of karaoke – the choice is yours! This walkable entertainment district also boasts a wide variety of restaurants and dinner shows to choose from to keep everybody happy. Whether you’re looking for elevated American fare or easy quick service options, you’re sure to find it here. Great for those travelling with family, there’s a little something for everybody here.

Day 2 - Hit the Theme Parks

Image of Amusement Park, Fun, Theme Park,

Of course, you can’t visit Orlando without checking out Magic Kingdom. Quite possibly the most famous theme park in the world, this legendary stop is not only a major part of the city’s identity, but plays into American identity as a whole. Bringing iconic Disney productions to life for generations, this place is often billed as ‘’the happiest place on earth’’ - and with good reason. To prepare for visiting, we recommend wearing your comfiest walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothes – and bringing lots of sunscreen! With over 40 rides, attractions and shopping destinations to choose from, there’s a whole lot to see here in just one day. Don’t worry about fitting it all in – just make sure you get to see your favorites! Remember to take some snaps to capture those great memories whilst you’re there. We recommend staying at the park until the evening time, since Disney runs a spectacular firework show over its famous Cinderella Castle – trust us when we say that you won’t want to miss it!

Day 3 - Take a Break

After a tiring day at the theme park, you might just be looking for something a little bit more relaxing. Well, look no further than the Disney Wilderness Preserve. Tucked away just south of the city, this hidden gem is the perfect place to take in the natural wonders of the area and enjoy a peaceful hike. With over 12, 000 acres of flatwoods and swamplands to be explored, you could easily spend an entire day here. Located on Everglades National Park, the site exhibits an entirely unique ecosystem currently found nowhere else on earth. Walking through the site, you’ll be able to enjoy over 1, 000 species of plants and animals, including 70 species of butterfly, 80 species of reptiles and amphibians, and 151 species of bird. Exceptionally serene and fascinating to explore, the place offers the perfect respite from the city.

Day 4 - Try the Classics

Now, you can’t go to Orlando and only visit one theme park. That’d be nuts, right? But how do you choose which one to make your way to next? Well, we kind of let the people do the work for us here. Standing as the most popular amusement park outside of the Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Studios is a long-time favorite choice for visitors and locals alike. Perfect for all film and pop culture lovers, the park is famed for its fun entertainment industry theme. Universal is made up of eight different areas, each with their own unique theme. There’s a lot of ground to cover here – but we’re sure you can handle it! Exploring the park, you’ll find over 40 rides, attractions and live shows to choose from. No matter what your favorite flick may be, you’re sure to find something that’s right up your alley. Living up to its name, this place truly offers an entertainment experience that everybody can enjoy.

Day 5 - Wind Down

Image of Indoors, Museum,

Enjoy the last day of your vacation by exploring the downtown area of the city. The historic center of Orlando presents an entirely different energy that’s definitely worth getting into. Forever lively and thriving with cultural activity, this place presents a great mixture of popular tourist attractions and hidden treasures at your disposal. If it’s museums that you’re after, then you won’t have to look too far – the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum and Wells' Built Museum will be right within walking distance. Or, if you’re a lover of the performed arts, the Dr Phillips Center for the Performing Arts provides world-class entertainment across a wide array of genres. Aside from what the area has to offer in the realm of culture, the neighborhood is brimming with great shopping opportunities, restaurants and bars to be discovered. Offering something a little different from the typical Orlando tourist experience, we love this spot for its ’'live like the locals’' vibe.

Orlando in December

When picturing Orlando, the first thing that comes to mind may be its summery weather and famous outdoor attractions. Still, the city comes alive during the wintertime, with fun events, seasonal entertainment and holiday cheer. There's always something going on during this time of the year, you just need to know where to look! Check out the dazzling light displays at Harry P. Leu Gardens, or cozy up in a museum café. Or, if you’re travelling with family, head over to Legoland for fantastic seasonal shows, or marvel at Disney’s annual holiday parade. Whether you’re a first-time visitor, or a seasoned veteran to the area, you’re sure to find something to suit your tastes. For a taste of Orlando during the festive season, check out our list of the best things to do during the month of December! Whatever you choose to do, we’re sure it’ll be great. Hit the Classics Every theme park worth its name knows how to do Christmas right – and Magic Kingdom is no exception to this rule. Drawing in millions of visitors each year, this place has long been one of the major attractions of the city – and it’s easy to see why. The park presents over 40 rides and attractions to be enjoyed, including It’s a Small World, Space Mountain, and of course, its iconic Cinderella Castle. But as if this place wasn’t magical enough, you can catch seasonal firework displays, parades, and magical ‘’snowfalls’’, turning the park into a captivating winter wonderland. A total classic for any time of the year, this quintessential Orlando mainstay is sure to put a smile on anyone’s face. Another one of our favorite theme park experiences for the month of December is available at Epcot. Staying true to the park’s main theme, the International Festival of the Holidays goes all out to provide a global celebration of the holiday season. Enjoy various iterations of Christmas through music, cuisine and special events. Each night all throughout the month, a celebrity will tell the story of Christmas accompanied by an orchestra and choir. Learn more about the time-honored traditions of different countries and soak up the holiday spirit. We especially love this take because it provides something a little different, with no less of the fun. See the Sites For those chilly December evenings, why not head out to the theater? If you’re looking for art and culture in the City Beautiful, you might be pleasantly surprised by what the area has to offer. For years, the Orlando Theatre has served as a regular entertainment house for some of the most talented performers you’ll ever see. Whether you’re looking to catch a Broadway show, see one of your favorite musicians, or laugh harder than ever with some live standup, this place has it all. In the past, the center has played host to the likes of Elton John, Paul McCartney and John Mulaney. Serving up engaging performances all throughout the week, this place would provide the perfect evening out in the city. Though December weather is generally pretty temperate, some days can get a little chilly. If you’re looking for a great colder weather activity, look no further than the Orlando Museum of Art. Founded way back in 1924, this place has long played a fundamental role in the city’s artistic community. In its impressive collection, you’ll find everything from Contemporary and American art to that of the Ancient Americas. We recommend checking the website before going for any upcoming exhibitions. With so much to see and learn, it'd be easy to just get lost here exploring this unique repository. Get Festive December is a fantastic time to visit some of Orlando’s famed theme parks, since the weather will be more bearable and the lines shorter. Great for those travelling with family, we’d consider Legoland way up there with Magic Kingdom as one of the top theme parks in the city. With over 50 rides, shows and attractions to choose from, the possibilities are pretty much endless here. Highlights include The Great Lego Race, The Dragon, and Miniland USA. Come Christmastime, the park transforms into an exciting dreamland, offering experiences worth treasuring forever. Catch seasonal shows, activities, sparkling lights, and more! With a wide variety of things to do stretching all throughout the month, there’s plenty of fun to be had here. Just because the city has cooled down doesn’t mean you have to stay huddled up inside! With its unique tropical climate, Florida is home to many wonderful green spaces just waiting to be discovered. An unmissable stop for all nature lovers, Harry P. Leu Gardens is well-recognized for its diverse collection of exotic plants. Covering over 40 acres, this charming historic park promises meticulously landscaped grounds and lakes, and great walking trails to enjoy. This stunning urban oasis is especially magical in the wintertime, when you can catch the Dazzling Nights display all throughout the month of December. Beautiful, calm and serene, we couldn’t think of a better way to spend some time away from the city. For a truly spectacular winter wonderland experience, check out Night of a Million Lights. Running all throughout the month, this event invites guests to enjoy a beautifully decorated fairytale neighborhood. Eat seasonal snacks as you stroll. Take a tram ride through the village. Enjoy a traditional Christmas market. Buying a ticket to this event provides support for ill children, so be sure to check it out. All-round feel good and super sparkly, this one should rank right at the top of the itinerary! While you might not get blankets of snow and wintry temperatures, no city knows how to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year better than Orlando. From exciting parades to over-the-top light displays, there’s much to do and see here for every type of traveller. Explore the city’s fantastic cultural institutions. Take a holiday tour of Epcot. Or, hang out and enjoy the sights at the Night of a Million Lights. Trust us when we say, you’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to festive activities and events to choose from. Building your own out of LEGO®! At LEGOLAND® Florida, everything is playfully supersized—including springtime celebrations. Each April, the park’s “Egg-tastic” festivities give families an awesome excuse to visit: think giant LEGO® bunny photo-ops, scavenger hunts, interactive shows and hands-on brick building challenges themed for the weekend.  If you crave that magical Easter parade feeling, line up along the signature pathways for character meet-and-greets. Who needs a bunny suit when you’ve got a LEGO® bunny? Young builders can race to spot hidden brick eggs around MINILAND USA, or create pastel-colored creations to take home. Themed treats pop up at concession stands—look for bunny-shaped cookies and milkshakes finished with rainbow sprinkles.  The park’s lush gardens hit their stride at Easter, offering extra charm for a relaxed wander between coasters and shows. Plus, if you venture over to Cypress Gardens, you’ll discover one of Florida’s most stunning displays of spring blooms—picture perfect for family portraits. With rides, water fun, hands-on creativity and seasonal sweetness, LEGOLAND® Florida promises a springtime outing like no other.  SEA LIFE Aquarium: Underwater Easter Eggstravaganza  Easter in Orlando can be all about sun, but there’s plenty to celebrate underwater too! SEA LIFE Aquarium at ICON Park puts a festive twist on marine discovery with its special spring scavenger hunts—think “Egghunt Under the Sea.” Kids (and the grown-ups who help them) receive activity sheets urging them to spot hidden Easter eggs, jellyfish decorations, or “bunny fins” among the tanks.  The atmosphere buzzes with energy. You’ll wander through winding glass tunnels under swirling rays and toothy sharks, pass playful seahorse nurseries, and dip your hands in the touch pool—maybe picking up a few aquatic facts from friendly staff along the way. It’s all charming, colorful and comfortably cool if the Florida sun gets too hot.  Easter weekend often comes with themed talks and feedings, plus limited-edition photo frames for a family keepsake you won’t find anywhere else. With crowd-pleasing displays, an interactive kids’ area for crafting or coloring, and the thrill of finding “hidden egg” clues alongside clownfish and turtles, this attraction makes holiday fun a snap.  Gatorland: Eggs-tra Wild Encounters  Orlando is home to some of the most unusual wildlife encounters anywhere, and Gatorland turns Easter into a real “eggs-ploration.” Often called the “Alligator Capital of the World,” this family-run adventure park turns up the fun every spring with themed egg hunts, animal shows, and meet-the-reptile experiences.  The big draw here is the Easter Gator Scavenger Hunt—a twist on the classic egg hunt featuring hidden giant eggs, zany clues, and sometimes even costumed gator mascots doling out prizes or candy. The park springs to life with baby alligator feedings, high-flying zip-line rides over the breeding marsh, and dozens of critters just waiting to wow your crew. The show schedule gets an Easter makeover too; wranglers might tuck pastel bow ties on their hats, while the famously entertaining “Gator Jumparoo” show is always a crowd favorite.  Lush boardwalks let you wander under swaying palms and Spanish moss, spotting white alligators (yes, really!) and baby crocs in cozy enclosures. For families looking for unique animal encounters, hands-on learning, and a healthy dose of Floridian weirdness, Gatorland’s springtime fun is hard to match.  The Orlando Eye: Spring Views and Sky-High Selfies  Easter in Orlando means blooming gardens, blue skies and dazzling city views. Take them all in from the Orlando Eye—a stunning observation wheel at ICON Park that slowly ascends more than 400 feet above the skyline. Easter weekend brings limited-time decor, themed photo props, and cheerful staff ready to snap a family picture if you don’t have a selfie stick handy.  Sunset rides are especially popular at this time of year, with golden light creating unforgettable portraits and a twinkle across the city’s lakes and resorts. Keep your camera handy: you might just catch sight of bunnies, eggs, or pastel blooms among the park’s beautifully landscaped gardens below. Each pod gives everyone a 360-degree view, roomy seating, and cool air on sunny days.  Once you’re back on the ground, ICON Park itself joins the Easter cheer with free-entry events—pop-up kids’ crafts, live music, and friendly roving entertainers. With shops, restaurants, and SEA LIFE Aquarium right next door, you can turn a simple observation wheel ride into a day of springtime discoveries.  Chocolate Kingdom: The Sweetest Adventure  If Easter’s all about the chocolate, then step inside Chocolate Kingdom for a factory tour that feels straight out of Willy Wonka’s daydreams. This interactive experience near International Drive guides you from cacao bean to finished chocolate bar, with plenty of tasting and pressing-your-nose-to-the-glass moments along the way.  Easter at Chocolate Kingdom is especially magical. Meet the Easter Bunny (who knows a thing or two about sweets), try chocolate-making demonstrations, and sample seasonal treats created just for the holiday—think white chocolate bunnies, citrus-flavored eggs, and marshmallow-filled delights. Younger visitors can enter contests to design their own chocolate bars or win chocolate prizes with themed quizzes. The guides are lively and knowledgeable, making the history and process of chocolate vibrantly fun for both kids and adults.  The gift shop is a winner too, brimming with edible souvenirs, sample platters, and boxed sets—ideal for Easter baskets or that last-minute gift for someone back home. You’ll leave with a newfound appreciation for your favorite treat (and maybe a slight sugar rush).  Easter Brunch & Spring Gardens: A Blooming Good Time  Orlando’s Easter brunches are legendary, with resorts and local favorites putting on colorful spreads that cater to all appetites. Book early for buffets and à la carte menus boasting everything from classic eggs Benedict to Florida-fresh seafood platters. The Alfond Inn in Winter Park dazzles with gourmet stations, free-flowing mimosas, and a sun-drenched courtyard, while The Glass Knife in Winter Park serves up beautiful pastries and a spring-inspired brunch with signature lemon curd cruffins.  Over at Disney Springs, Homecomin’ offers a hearty Southern-style brunch, complete with fried chicken and house-made cinnamon rolls, perfect for a festive family meal. Many Orlando hotels also host egg hunts, crafts, and photos with the Easter Bunny as part of their brunch package—bonus points if there’s a lake or garden view.  Pair your meal with a stroll at Harry P. Leu Gardens or Mead Botanical Garden, when thousands of azaleas, camellias, and flowering trees turn the city’s parks into stunning backdrops for family photos or a chill afternoon picnic. Entry is budget-friendly, and spring always brings special events—think guided wildlife walks, butterfly releases, or egg hunts for little ones among the blooms.  Easter Egg Hunts & Family Fun in Orlando’s Parks  The classic egg hunt is alive and well in Orlando, but it’s got a local twist. Dozens of Orlando’s city and county parks pull out all the stops with free or low-cost events on Easter weekend. Look for huge outdoor egg scrambles—sometimes with separate areas for different ages—and meet-and-greets with the Easter Bunny, balloon twisters, or face painters.  At Lake Eola Park, downtown Orlando’s crown jewel, city-sponsored festivals transform the lawn with inflatables, local food stalls, craft markets, and live music. The festival atmosphere is infectiously cheerful. Little ones race for colorful eggs under towering oaks, while grownups enjoy music from local bands and food truck bites under shady pavilions.  Many of the region’s resorts—like the Ritz-Carlton Grande Lakes or Four Seasons Orlando—host their own epic egg hunts and themed family games, often included as part of Easter brunch packages. With spring breezes, smiling staff, and plenty of prizes to win, everyone leaves with memories (and often a good haul of chocolates).  Art, Crafts & Spring Festivals  Spring means festival season in Orlando, with a full calendar of outdoor events perfect for art lovers and creative kids. During Easter, the Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival features hundreds of juried artists, food trucks, and kid-friendly craft tents in one of the city’s prettiest neighborhoods. The atmosphere is festive, relaxed and delightfully local.  If you’re after hands-on fun, check out the Orlando Museum of Art, which hosts family days with Easter-inspired crafts, scavenger hunts, and gallery games. Downtown’s Creative City Project regularly puts on interactive pop-ups—think street artists, live music, and whimsical installations that shimmer in the spring light.  Finally, don’t miss local farmers’ markets at Lake Eola or Winter Park, where you’ll spot Easter flower displays, fresh pastries, and handmade gifts perfect for filling your basket. There’s no better way to feel part of the local scene than a wander with a lemonade in hand, stocking up on Florida strawberries and chatting with cheerful stallholders.  Wrapping Up  However you like to celebrate Easter—from rocket launches and LEGO quests to chocolate feasts, egg hunts, or lazy brunches—Orlando delivers. This is a place where the fun lasts all weekend, the flowers bloom extra bright, and spring traditions come with a sunny twist. Orlando in April

One of the most exciting times in Orlando is spring when we start to see the city really open up. Offering all the same perks as the summertime, just without the unbearable heat, Orlando in April presents ample opportunity for adventure and exploration. Though the city is known for its famous theme parks, we assure you that this place isn’t a one-trick pony. Whether you’re a nature lover, an artsy type, or a foodie, you’re sure to find something to suit your tastes. From Riding Spaceship Earth at Epcot and photo opportunities at Madame Tussauds to relaxing walks through Kraft Azalea Garden and Disney Wilderness Preserve, here is how to make the most of your time in the city. See the Sites It would be a sin to make a trip to Orlando without visiting any of its famous theme parks. Owned and run by The Walt Disney Company. Epcot is the perfect place to spend time with friends and family. Standing out for its unique chosen theme, this place is dubbed as the ‘’permanent world’s fair’’, for its particular focus on human achievement and innovation. The park is divided into four neighborhoods, each with its own theme: World Celebration, World Discovery, World Nature and World Showcase. Within each area, you’ll find shows, activities, and entertainment. Unlike other big theme parks, there are more attractions than there are rides at this place – but that's what makes for a truly unique encounter! Thoroughly iconic and undoubtedly different, this place provides the ultimate entertainment experience for those of all ages. For pop-culture lovers and film enthusiasts, the next item on our list is an absolute must. To capture the real essence of Hollywood right in the center of Orlando, there’s no better place to be than Madame Tussauds. Offering 6 separate display sections of popular celebrities, the establishment provides a great interactive experience for all visitors. The figures are pretty spectacular close up, paying close attention to detail whilst also embodying the true spirit of each person depicted. A super fun and unique attraction, this one is not to be skipped out on! In a place like Orlando, sometimes it can seem like the city is saying thing one and one thing only: ‘’visit our theme parks!’’ Still, if you do your research, you’ll find that the area is just as multifaceted as any other. A great stop for all creative types, the Cornell Fine Arts Museum seeks to preserve, display and exhibit artworks ranging from antiquity right through to the contemporary. Upon entrance, visitors can enjoy an expansive collection of over 5, 000 objects, including prints, drawings, sculptures and more. Highlights include Andy Warhol’s photographs and polaroids, and works by Pablo Picasso and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Get into Nature Though Orlando is perhaps most famous for its outlandish theme parks, it’s also home to some lush green spaces - you just have to know where to look! A total must-do for nature lovers, Kraft Azalea Garden is the perfect place for taking a balmy springtime stroll or watching the sunset over Lake Maitland. Billed as Winter Park’s Secret Garden, the property has less of a perfectly manicured feel, and more of a wild and romantic vibe. Open all year round, this area has magnificent cypress trees, a beautiful fountain, and of course, azaleas. April is a great time to visit since you’ll be able to spot beautiful egrets, mockingbirds and woodpeckers around the park. If you’re a seasoned visitor to the Sunshine State, you might just know about its beautiful landscapes. Hidden amongst the suburban stretch of South Orlando, the Disney Wilderness Preserve provides the perfect retreat from the city. Covering over 3,500 acres of restored wetlands, this place is an environmentalist’s paradise just waiting to be discovered. Home to over 1,000 species of plants and animals, this area showcases the unique southern ecosystem in all its glory. Make time for a tranquil walk through the forests, take an off-road buggy tour to learn more about the area, or catch a movie under the stars - the choice is yours! Whatever you choose to do, there’s no doubt it’ll be great. Relax! When touring, one of the best ways to get to know the area is by visiting a local market. Take advantage of the beautiful springtime weather and l like a local at Winter Park Famers’ Market. Held every Saturday afternoon, this place is known for purveying a wide array of organic veggies, artisan cheeses, and locally sourced honey. Although you probably won’t be taking home any produce, there are a lot of food and art vendors to choose from. Dive into the crowds, soak up the atmosphere and grab some lunch! If you’re looking to take a break from all of the buzz, why not head to the mall? Since its opening in 2002, the Mall at Millenia has become an Orlando favorite for spending some quality family time and slipping in all of that much-needed retail therapy. Located just south of downtown, the mall has over 150 stores to choose from, ranging from high-end luxury and in-demand brands to high-street stores. Whether you’re looking to browse, pick up some souvenirs for your loved ones back home, or just sit back and relax, this place has all you need for a bit of downtime. Set along the eastern coastline, Orlando is not a place to hole up indoors. The area caters to all types of travellers, and there are plenty of opportunities to discover something new. Orlando’s theme parks are a must – whether you love rollercoasters, waterparks, or animals, there's a little something for everybody here. If you're an outdoorsy type, then the area has many parks and preserves to be explored. For those looking for something a little more relaxing, there are a lot of cultural amenities and markets to check out.
