  • Canaveral National Seashore
  • Space View Park
  • Cocoa Beach Pier (Walking and People-Watching)
  • Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge
  • Titusville Mural Trail
  • Manatee Observation Deck
  • Historic Cocoa Village
  • Lori Wilson Park
  • Playalinda Beach
  • Rotary Riverfront Park

Canaveral National Seashore

Stretching along Florida’s coastline just north of Kennedy, Canaveral National Seashore delivers wild beauty and plenty of space for a beach day. There’s no entrance fee if you enter on foot or by bike, and you’ll be met with unspoiled dunes, rolling surf, and a sense of peace that feels worlds away from Orlando’s crowds. Take a long beach walk, hunt for seashells, or look out for dolphins playing in the waves.

The area is also famous for rocket launches—locals love setting up chairs here to catch distant lift-offs. Even when nothing’s blasting off, the wide sandy stretches and gentle breeze make for a perfect picnic or sunset hangout. Birdwatchers, bring your binoculars: you might spot everything from ospreys to pelicans along the shoreline.

Space View Park

Situated right on the Indian River in Titusville, Space View Park is the spot for rocket fans. It’s designed for launch viewing, and its riverside amphitheater fills with excitement whenever rockets take to the skies. Even on non-launch days, you can stroll past a cool collection of astronaut monuments and engraved plaques celebrating America’s journey into space.

Catch sweeping views of the launch pads across the water—a perfect backdrop for photos, especially with the Space Walk of Fame’s Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, and Shuttle monuments. Kids love climbing around the space-themed play equipment, and the riverfront breeze makes everything feel fresh and relaxed. Don’t forget to check for upcoming rocket schedules; you might find yourself surrounded by new launch buddies.

Cocoa Beach Pier (Walking & People-Watching)

No need to pay for fishing or pricey beach snacks—just walking Cocoa Beach Pier is a fun experience in itself. Expect people in flip-flops, surfers running toward the waves, and pelicans perched above all the action. The salty ocean breeze and non-stop energy bring out the best in Florida’s beloved surf culture.

The pier is a fantastic spot to enjoy the Atlantic’s endless horizon, snap Instagram-worthy shots, or watch beach volleyball from above. Live music drifts from nearby bars, but you can always grab a patch of sand below to listen for free. Time your stroll at sunset for magical colors over the water, guaranteed to make your day.

Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge

Flamingos at Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge

Swap rockets for real wildlife at Merritt Island’s sprawling sanctuary, less than 15 minutes from Kennedy. Thousands of acres here teem with birds, alligators, turtles, and even wild boar, making this a paradise for nature lovers and photographers. Entry is free if you use the hiking and observation areas.

Drive the Black Point Wildlife Drive, walk the short Oak Hammock Trail or just nestle into a viewing blind to soak up the sights. There’s always something happening: roseate spoonbills wading, armadillos crossing, or manatees cruising the shallows. During launch days, you’ll often spot buzzards circling above the pads—it’s Florida wilderness with a side order of rocket science.

Titusville Mural Trail

Titusville’s historic streets come alive thanks to a growing collection of outdoor murals—each celebrating a quirky chapter in the town’s past, present and space-loving future. Pick up a map from the local visitor center, or just follow your own path as you explore bright, photo-ready paintings of rocket launches, wildlife, and old-time Florida scenes.

This trail is a bonus for art and Instagram fans alike. As you wander between murals, you’ll also pass by local shops, cozy cafés, and waterfront parks—making this a great way to blend creativity with a slice of small-town Florida. Bring your camera and see how many murals you can spot!

Manatee Observation Deck

If gentle giants are more your style than blasting rockets, don’t miss this special riverside spot in the Merritt Island Refuge. The Manatee Observation Deck, found on the Haulover Canal, offers free access to prime manatee-watching territory. Bring a picnic, binoculars, and patience—especially in winter months when herds gather in the warmer waters.

The deck juts out over the canal and gives excellent views not just of manatees, but dolphins and seabirds too. Locals love the quiet vibe, with cool breezes and shady benches making it a peaceful break from more crowded tourist hubs. Interpretive signage gives you the backstory on Florida’s unique wildlife, so you’ll leave feeling like a true Space Coast naturalist.

Historic Cocoa Village

For a dose of Florida’s quirky, historic charm, wander Cocoa Village—just a short drive southwest of Kennedy. It’s all about brick-lined streets, leafy oaks, and pastel-colored architecture that’ll transport you back in time. Window-shop the local boutiques, listen for free concerts in the riverside park, or just find a bench and soak up the laidback vibe with locals.

Don’t miss the riverside boardwalk or the quirky public art pieces dotted throughout the village square. There’s always some activity bubbling—a classic car show, a farmer’s market, or a street festival—so poke your head into the welcome center for tips on what’s happening. Even if you’re not buying a thing, a stroll here is pure Space Coast relaxation.

Lori Wilson Park

Lori Wilson Park

Lori Wilson Park in Cocoa Beach is a favorite with local families—and best of all, parking is totally free. That means you can plant yourself on the soft sand, wander the wide boardwalks, or explore the peaceful maritime hammock trails without spending a dime. With restrooms, showers, and covered pavilions, it’s easy to hang out all day.

Walk the boardwalk for spectacular sea views, then chill under the shade of tall sea grapes and oaks. There’s a dog park, picnic areas, and volleyball courts—all with that unbeatable Florida coast ambience. Watch surfers from the shoreline or hunt for shells at sunrise. With free entry, it’s easy to see why this spot is loved by in-the-know travelers.

Playalinda Beach

Part of the northern end of Canaveral National Seashore, Playalinda Beach is one of Florida’s most spectacular—and undeveloped—stretches of sand. Rolling dunes, endless waves, and the low, wild noise of shorebirds set the scene. Unlike busier beaches, Playalinda feels remote and peaceful, perfect for a day of sunbathing or a quiet picnic.

You can bike in for free and enjoy miles of car-free shoreline with views of the Kennedy launch pads in the distance. Regulars know it’s a top spot for rocket launch viewing, but even when nothing’s blasting off, the unspoiled nature and salty air are reason enough to visit. Don’t forget water and sunscreen—amenities are scarce, which just adds to the wild charm.

Rotary Riverfront Park

Quieter than the beach parks but just as beautiful, Rotary Riverfront Park in Titusville sits right on the water and makes a perfect picnic or sunset spot. You’ll get sweeping river views and, on a lucky evening, dolphins playing offshore. A paved path circles the park, making it popular with joggers and anyone seeking a relaxing stroll.

Look for the playground and shaded picnic tables, plus free fishing from the shore. Sometimes there’s live music from a nearby gazebo, so check the calendar for local happenings. Bring snacks, watch the boats go by, and enjoy that laidback coastal vibe without spending a penny.

Whether you dream of spotting rockets, lounging on quiet beaches, or exploring vibrant small towns, there’s a free activity here for everyone. Remember, the area around Kennedy Space Center is more than just launch pads—it's bursting with easygoing charm, natural wonders, and unique experiences at every turn. Happy exploring, and don’t forget to look up—you never know when you’ll catch a rocket streaking across the sky!

Orlando in June

June is one of the best times to visit Orlando. Contrary to popular belief, the city has far more to offer beyond its famous theme parks. From world-class entertainment experiences to great outdoor activities and shopping opportunities, the subtropical capital of the Southeast packs quite the punch! Within its broad city limits, you can visit Universal Studios, catch some unique shows, and enjoy the natural habitat firsthand. Still, if you’re coming for the rides, you definitely won’t leave disappointed! Thankfully, we’ve done the research for you – now all you need to do is check off the list! So, grab a notepad and get ready to jot some things down. See the Classics A trip to Orlando isn’t quite complete without a visit to Universal Studios. A total fan favorite, there’s no place that quite compares. Drawing in millions of visitors each year, this place is one of the most popular resorts in the entire world – and with good reason! Offering a world-class entertainment district, two theme parks and a waterpark, too, there’s a lot to see and do here for every type of traveller. Additionally, you can stay on-site in one of the resort’s many hotels – still, we think that you could stay for weeks here and never experience all of it! With so much ground to cover, this place provides an exciting entertainment experience to remember. Another one of our favorite theme parks in Orlando has got to be LegoLand for all of its liveliness and whimsy. Perfect for those travelling with family, this place offers an exciting experience to all of its visitors. An epicenter of pure unadulterated merriment, this place packs so much into its boundaries. From rides and shows to shopping and dining, you’ll never be bored here – rather, you might find it hard to fit all of it in! Still, one of our favorite attractions completely unique to this spot are the spectacular Lego models dotted around the site. Always barrels of fun, this place is great for those of all ages. Take a Day Trip Looking for a great way to beat the heat? Well, look no further! Voted the USA’s best water park, Aquatica is the perfect place to spend a hot summer’s day. Thrill rides like Ihu’s Breakaway Falls are sure enough to test anybody’s bravery. Meanwhile, rides like Taumata Racer and Walhalla Wave are perfect for younger guests. Still, our resounding favorite has got to be the Dolphin Plunge, which literally sends you zooming through a pool of the ocean’s friendliest creatures en route. With great rides, natural sand beaches, and marine life, this place provides an exciting entertainment experience to remember. If you’re a seasoned visitor to Orlando, you’ll be well aware that weather can get pretty steamy. Thankfully, the city has plenty of options for those who aren’t big fans of the heat. Open and running since 1955, Orlando Science Center has long been serving the community as a center of intellectual thought and understanding. Combining fun with learning, the institute breaks down complicated ideas and presents them in interesting and understandable ways for its visitors. There are hands-on exhibits, 3D films, and engaging educational programming, making it a great place for curious minds. We love this spot because it’s impossible to leave without having learned something new! Try Something New If you’re looking to spend some quiet time in nature, you won’t need to travel far. Leu, this meticulously restored historic structure is now open to visitors. Just remember to wear your comfiest walking shoes and take plenty of sunscreen with you! For a destination known primarily for its rollercoasters, the best things to do in Orlando may just surprise you. Those coming to the city for art and culture might not be completely taken. Still, anybody with a sense of humor and appreciation for the downright ridiculous will be more than happy with the city’s unique offerings. Standing out as Orlando’s longest-running dinner show, the Outta Control Magic Show has everything you could possibly ask for when it comes to family entertainment. No, really: we mean it. This quirky interactive show features magic, mind-reading and improv – yes, maybe that sounds like a lot, but it totally works, trust us.
