Orlando Days Out Your Parents Will Thank You For

Planning an Orlando trip with your parents? Here’s how to win “favorite child” status!

Teen Child with Parent

Orlando isn’t just for kids or adrenaline junkies—it’s one of the best destinations to connect with family, no matter your age. Traveling with your parents? You’re in luck! We’ve rounded up Orlando experiences that blend a dash of nostalgia, a sprinkle of wonder, and heaps of shared laughter. Picture space launches, alligator encounters, afternoons with sea creatures, and evenings packed with live entertainment. Whether you want adventure, downtime, or a bit of both, these activities promise to give you new stories to share around the next family dinner. Ready to plan those “remember when?” moments? Let’s jump into Orlando’s most parent-friendly picks.

Our favorite things to do in Orlando with parents include:

  • Kennedy Space Center
  • Daytona International Speedway Track Tour
  • Gatorland
  • The Orlando Eye
  • Museum of Illusions
  • SEA LIFE Aquarium
  • The Outta Control Magic Comedy Dinner Show
  • WonderWorks
  • Take a Stroll Through Beautiful Lake Eola Park

Kennedy Space Center: Out-of-this-World Inspiration

Take your parents to the Kennedy Space Center and blast your Orlando trip into orbit (no space suit required!). This legendary spot is tailor-made for families who want a little wow factor with their history lesson. The atmosphere buzzes with excitement from the moment you walk in: rocket boosters tower overhead and authentic NASA artifacts line the halls. The exhibits are interactive, keeping everyone wide-eyed, and you’ll all be swapping “Did you know?” tidbits for days.

Don’t miss the Space Shuttle Atlantis—gaze up at the real spacecraft and experience a simulated shuttle launch that shakes and thrills (but keeps feet firmly on the ground). For parents who remember watching the Moon landing, it’s a must-see. The Center is also home to awe-inspiring astronaut talks, memorabilia, and out-of-this-world photo ops. If the timing’s right, you might even catch a live rocket launch—family memories don’t get more epic than this. With easy access, great photo backdrops, and just enough hands-on stuff to keep everyone engaged, the Kennedy Space Center is Orlando’s perfect family adventure with a little extra gravity.

Daytona International Speedway Track Tour: For Racing Fans and Curious Visitors

Finish Line of Track

If your parents are gearheads or simply love a bit of high-speed excitement, take them to the Daytona International Speedway for a behind-the-scenes tour. Just an hour from Orlando, this legendary track isn’t just for diehard NASCAR fans—nearly anyone will appreciate the blend of history, tech, and jaw-dropping scale. The ambiance is electric, mixing the thrill of world-famous races with the nostalgia of motorsports heritage.

Your guided tram tour will take you onto the banked turns, past pit row, and along Victory Lane where champions celebrate. The highlight for many? Standing right on the track itself, gazing up at the endless stands and imagining 100,000 fans waving above. Museum exhibits packed with race cars, memorabilia, and interactive displays bring racing’s stories to life. Even if no big race is on, there’s a sense of anticipation in the air. It’s an outing that’s equal parts impressive and fun, perfect for families looking to go beyond the usual Orlando circuit.

Gatorland: Wild Encounters and Old Florida Charm

Is there anything more “Florida” than spotting an alligator? Gatorland is the place to go wild—with your family in tow. Dubbed the “Alligator Capital of the World,” Gatorland combines animal thrills with good old-fashioned fun, perfect for a day out with the folks. Wander boardwalks over lush swamps, watch hundreds of gators and crocodiles (even rare white ones!) do their thing, and maybe catch the famous Gator Jumparoo Show—giant reptiles leaping for chicken isn’t something you see every day.

The experience feels relaxed but full of surprises, from feeding baby alligators to taking goofy photos at the park’s entrance gate. For adventurous families, there’s a Screamin’ Gator Zip Line that soars above live gators! Prefer to keep feet on the ground? Enjoy the aviary, meet friendly goats at Allie’s Barnyard, or join a behind-the-scenes trainer tour for up-close animal encounters. It’s quirky, classic, and showcases Florida’s wild side in the best way possible.

The Orlando Eye: Views for Days

Why not see Orlando from a whole new angle? The Orlando Eye (also known as The Wheel at ICON Park) is a gentle, scenic way to take in the city’s best views—all from the comfort of a climate-controlled capsule. Parents will love the slow, graceful ascent, and everyone gets an uninterrupted look at the city’s theme parks, shimmering lakes, and on clear days, even Florida’s coastline.

Riding the Eye is peaceful but exciting, perfect for photo sessions or a bit of reminiscing. Time your visit for sunset if you can—the skyline lights up, and the views turn magical. If you’re hungry before or after, ICON Park is packed with tempting eateries, from sleek cafés to family-friendly diners. It’s sightseeing with a side of relaxation and the feeling of floating about the world for a while.

Museum of Illusions: Mind-Bending Fun for All Ages

For laughs with the whole family, the Museum of Illusions has you spinning, laughing, and seeing the world in a whole new way. Every corner is a new optical trick designed to challenge your brain and your camera skills. Wander through rooms that flip gravity, swap faces in mirrors, and make everyone seem twice their size or half as tall. Even the most “serious” parent can’t resist cracking a grin at the wacky photo ops.

What sets this place apart? There’s zero pressure to “understand” everything—just an open invitation to play and experiment together. The atmosphere is playful and lively, with staff who love helping you capture mind-boggling family photos. If your family enjoys a little harmless bafflement (and bragging rights for the weirdest vacation snapshots), the Museum of Illusions is a must-see.

SEA LIFE Orlando Aquarium: Underwater Adventures

Girl at SEA LIFE Orlando

SEA LIFE Orlando whisks you and your folks on an aquatic adventure. Here, you wander immersive underwater tunnels while sea turtles swim overhead and schools of colorful fish dart by. The atmosphere is peaceful, calming, and perfect for families needing a break from the buzz of the parks.

The real standout? Engaging talks and feeding times—watching keepers feed sharks and rays never gets old. Parents who adore animals will love the up-close look at conservation efforts, while younger or inquisitive family members enjoy all the tactile tunnels and “nose-to-nose” viewing domes. It’s the perfect spot for a little learning, plenty of wonder, and a few “Did you see that?!” moments you’ll talk about on the drive home.

The Outta Control Magic Comedy Dinner Show: Laughter Served Nightly

Mix dinner and a show, and you’ve got all the ingredients for a truly memorable family night. The Outta Control Magic Comedy Dinner Show lives up to its name—think pizza, popcorn, and endless audience participation, wrapped around a feast of card tricks, impersonations, and quick-fire jokes. The setting is intimate, energetic, and endlessly fun; even the shyest parent gets swept along for the ride.

Beyond the comedy, the food hits the mark with classic pizzas, salads, and unlimited drinks—and there’s always a birthday or anniversary getting an extra round of applause. The performers know how to keep everyone laughing without embarrassment, creating inside jokes you’ll be giggling about for the rest of your trip. It’s a dinner-and-show combo that just works, especially with parents who appreciate a night of silliness and surprises.

WonderWorks: Where Science Gets Seriously Fun

WonderWorks bills itself as an “amusement park for the mind,” and we can’t think of a better description. This upside-down building on International Drive promises hours of hands-on exploration: feel the force of a hurricane, lie on a bed of nails, or challenge family members to a game of laser tag. Science here is playful and interactive, so nobody needs a PhD to have a blast.

What do families love most? There’s something to spark everyone’s imagination, no matter their age or interests. Parents who love trivia will get a kick out of the informative exhibits, while adrenaline fans can ride a virtual roller coaster or navigate rope courses. There’s even a blacklight ropes challenge for adding friendly rivalry into the mix. It’s a high-energy outing that combines learning and laughs—a true Orlando classic.

Lake Eola Park: Orlando’s Urban Oasis

Need a laid-back option that’s free and perfect for all ages? Stroll around Lake Eola Park, right in the heart of downtown Orlando. This lush, spacious park is all about reconnecting with nature and each other. Take a peaceful walk around the water, see the famous swan boats, or pack a picnic and claim a shady spot under one of the old oak trees.

If hunger hits, nearby Thornton Park is packed with local cafés—try Benjamin French Bakery for flaky croissants or Dexter’s for brunch with a Floridian twist. Park events like open-air concerts or farmer’s markets might be happening during your visit, adding a dash of local flavor. It’s the perfect antidote to theme park crowds—just pure, scenic relaxation with skyline views and gentle Florida breezes.

There you have it: the perfect blend of science, nature, and thrills for your trip to Orlando with your parents! Whether you’re exploring rocket launches, snapping surreal photos in a mind-bending museum, or relaxing by tranquil waters, one thing’s for sure—these memories will stick around. So round up the folks, head to Orlando, and get ready for a family getaway everyone will love!

Things to do in International Drive Orlando

Vibrant and bustling with life, Orlando is known as one of America’s top tourist destinations. If it's your first visit to the city, you’re likely to be staying in International Drive. Luckily for you, this exciting entertainment district at the heart of the city’s tourism area will leave you spoiled for choice. The area presents a myriad of exciting family-friendly experiences including Fun Spot America and Icon Park to keep you busy. With hundreds of bars and restaurants across the board, an evening out at I-Drive is a blast. And as a major plus, you’ll be just a stone's throw away from all of the best theme parks. We’ve spent a lot of time in the area and are sharing our favorite things to do here. Let’s dive in! Hit the Classics Of course, a vacation to Orlando is all about the theme parks. Living up to its namesake, Fun Spot America provides a great day out for adults and children alike. Whether you’re a thrillseeker or prefer something a little bit tamer, this place has it all. Setting itself apart from other iconic parks in the city, Fun Spot America works to offer a fantastic slice of Old Florida. Walking around the park, you’ll be able to enjoy old school carnival rides including a Ferris wheel, a carousel and bumper cars. The park is entirely admission-free, and you can choose to pay for only the rides you choose to go on, making it great value for money. Creating fun and making memories since 1979, this place is a quintessential Orlando classic well worth the visit. Now, some say you can’t have it all, but I-Drive’s walkable entertainment district Icon Park will make you feel just the opposite. Offering everything from exciting family-friendly activities and great shopping opportunities to top-notch eateries and vibrant nightlife options, this all-around energetic attraction has a little something for everybody. When making a stop here, it’s absolutely essential to ride the Orlando Eye, and the Orlando Starflyer, the world’s tallest swing ride. Afterwards, head for dinner at one of the park's fantastic restaurants (you’ll have plenty to choose from since there are over 40 of them!), or browse the stores for souvenirs for your loved ones. Or, after dark, check out the bars and live music shows in the area. With its buzzing atmosphere that remains unmatched, we couldn’t think of a better way to spend a sunny day in Orlando. Find Interesting Activities Make it a day to remember and visit all of your favorite celebrities at Madame Tussauds. Named after the prolific wax worker Marie Tussaud, this leading Orlando attraction has famous figures from the worlds of film, music, sport and history, all under one roof. A total Instagrammer’s paradise, the institute offers over 60 immersive exhibitions to be explored. Unbelievably accurate and detailed, these crazy life-size replicas are a total sight to behold. Even up close, the waxworks are sure to play a number on you – you'll never quite be sure that they’re not the real deal. Get up close with the likes of Taylor Swift, Ryan Reynolds, or Angelina Jolie. Surreal, quirky, and a whole lot of fun, consider this a great place for a family day trip. Don’t forget to bring a camera so you can capture the magic! As Orlando’s main tourist strip, I-Drive is bursting with interesting things to do that you’ll be hard-pressed to find anywhere else. Offering a poignant look at the famous shipwreck, Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition truly brings history to life for a broad audience. Taking guests on a fascinating trip through time, the museum showcases over 300 artefacts that have been recovered from the very bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. Tours are led by actors dressed in period costumes of the time to depict actual passengers. With numerous galleries and interactive exhibits to explore, the institute offers a closer look into what happened on April 15th 1912. Have a Blast If you’re looking for something a little different, look no further than Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Founded by famous cartoonist Robert Ripley, this one-of-a-kind museum showcases oddities, curiosities and artefacts from around the globe. Built into an off-level structure that appears to be falling into a sinkhole, this kooky odditorium houses over 16 galleries and hundreds of displays which are sure to amaze. Walking through the museum, you’ll get to see peculiarities including a genuine shrunken head, a two-headed calf, and one of the world’s only vampire killing kits. From the strange and the beautiful to the weird and the wonderful, this place has it covered. A little bit kitschy and a whole lot of fun, we love this stop because it embraces a whole other world of crazy we never knew was possible. Sometimes, the Orlando heat can get a little much for some people (Okay, fine - most people). But don’t fear! We’ve found the answer – and yup, you guessed it, it’s right in the center of International Drive. For those looking to cool off, CoCo Key Water Resort is the perfect place to make a splash. Whether you want a high-powered adrenaline rush, or something a little more low-key, you’re sure to find something to suit you. With fourteen rides to try, the fun never stops coming here. For those who prefer to play it cool, there’s a relaxing pool and bar area away from all of the buzz. In addition, CoCo Key has a large arcade with over 50 games to try out. For fun-filled family adventure, we couldn’t think of a better spot. A total epicenter of fun and excitement, International Drive is an attractive tourist destination for all types of visitors. Drawing in millions of people each year, the city’s major tourist corridor knows how to help you have a good time. The best things to do in I-Drive run the gamut – from free spectacles to fantastic thrill rides, you’ll never be bored here.
