What you'll do
Nestled in the heart of Prague, the Steel Art Museum Prague stands as a beacon of creativity, offering visitors a unique exploration of art made from recycled steel parts. This fascinating museum has transformed discarded materials into hundreds of captivating figures, inspired by pop culture, fairytales, and the automotive world.
This interactive experience invites you to touch, climb, and even sit on the exhibits, making it a memorable attraction for all ages. The Steel Art Museum not only promises an enriching journey through the realm of recycled art but also stands as a testament to sustainability and innovation in the center of Prague.
At the heart of the Steel Art Museum lies a world where recycled art takes center stage, transforming what was once discarded into masterpieces of creativity and engineering. This section delves into the fascinating process and the diverse array of sculptures that make the museum a must-visit attraction.
The museum's collection spans a wide range of themes, from popular characters in movies, comics, and cartoons to legends of the automotive world. This includes life-sized car sculptures, which are among the most labor-intensive and detailed pieces, capturing the essence of luxury cars and motorcycles with astonishing accuracy.
Situated near Wenceslas Square in a historic building, it is the first place in the world to create steel sculptures solely from recycled scrap metal, a testament to the innovative spirit of its creators. With hundreds of figures on display, each telling its own story of transformation from scrap to art, the museum not only promotes recycling but also challenges our perceptions of art and creativity.
Steel Art Museum highlights
The artistic process
The museum's international team of over 120 artists, led by creator Jose Mariusz Ojejnik, employs a hands-on approach to art creation. Using simple tools like welding machines, burners, hammers, and cutting tools, each sculpture is meticulously crafted by hand. From the initial concept to the final piece, the process can take anywhere from one to eight months, depending on the complexity and size of the sculpture.
Inspiring materials
The sculptures are fashioned from an eclectic mix of recycled steel parts, including gears, gearboxes, brake pads, chains, bolts, and nuts. This not only showcases the museum's commitment to recycling but also adds a unique texture and history to each piece.
Interactive experience and family fun
As you step into the Steel Art Museum, you're not just entering an exhibition; you're diving into an interactive playground that blurs the lines between art and play.
