Archeological ruins of Ostia Antica

What you'll do

The archaeological site of Ostia Antica is a great way to explore an ancient Roman town, which was once an important trading center and a bustling hub.

The name Ostia comes from the Latin word for 'mouth', referring to Ostia’s location at the mouth of the Tiber River.

You will take a 20-minute guided golf cart tour through the center of the carefully preserved ruins.

Take a ‘passegiatta’ through Ostia Antica’s labyrinthine streets and uncover the history of this intriguing site. The ruins offer a window into ancient Roman life. Lots of excavations are beautifully intact, including stunning frescoes and mosaics.

Alongside Pompeii, Ostia Antica is one of the most significant ancient sites that help us understand Roman urbanism. If you’re visiting Rome, it’s a superb way to see a preserved relic of the Roman Empire.
