Hillsborough Castle and Gardens

Intriguing Hillsborough Castle dates back to the 18th century, and to this day, it’s the Royal Family’s official Northern Ireland residence. This Georgian country house is set in the midst of a hundred acres of ornamental grounds and formal gardens. 

You’ll get a 45-minute guided tour of Hillsborough Castle, including the grand State Rooms, the Coat of Arms in the Throne Room, and the State Dining Room.  

Take your time and wander the tranquil castle gardens, which feature meandering waterways, a peaceful lake, and idyllic woodlands.  

Within the greenery is the breathtaking Walled Garden, with its espalier fruit trees first planted over a century ago. Fresh fruit and vegetables grown in the Walled Garden are incorporated into the Hillsborough Castle Cafe’s delicious produce.  

Meander along the Yew Tree Walk, named for its paths lined with Irish yew trees, and see Lady Alice’s Temple.
