What you'll do
The Makapuu Point Lighthouse Trail is a fairly easy hike that offers a beautiful and memorable experience. It's a well-paved pathway that's perfect for a casual and leisurely walk, yet it leads to some of Oahu's most breathtaking views. Along the way, you'll see native plants and the deep blue sea, and you might even spot some whales during their migration season. It's a great way to spend a morning or afternoon, suitable for all ages.
The Makapuu Lighthouse Hike on Oahu is one of the most popular things to do on the Island of Oahu. The trail is relatively short, around 2 miles round trip, and isn't very steep. At the end, you're rewarded with stunning views of the Windward Coast and the historic Makapuu Lighthouse, standing tall since 1909. Whether you're a professional hiker or just looking for an average traveler looking for a leisurely stroll, this hike will make your trip to Oahu memorable. And don't forget your camera; those views are worth a snapshot!
See stunning views of the Pacific, the shoreline, and nearby islands, stop at a historic landmark and keep your eyes peeled for humpback whales in the distance.
You'll hike the windward side of Oahu via a beautiful two-mile paved trail, and take in the entire coastline. Your tour guide will lead you to the Halona Blow Hole for a 15-minute stop, during which you'll marvel at a natural and breathtaking sea show. When wind and tide conditions are right, this blow hole shoots water up to 20 feet in the air. And, between mid-November and April, you may also see the migratory Humpback whales at this stop.
Makapuu Lighthouse is a 46-foot-tall active U.S. Coast Guard lighthouse and has over 100 years of history within its walls. Not to mention incredible views. From the top, you'll see sweeping views of the Pacific, Koko Head, Koko Crater, and the entire southern coastline of Oahu.
