10. Times Square (free!)

The Times Square NYE celebration is a free event open to the public on a first-come first-served basis. Don't be swindled into buying a "ticket" by anyone on the street. That being said, make sure to get there as early as possible. People start lining up around the barriers in the early hours of the morning on the day of New Year's Eve.

1. 티켓을 사실 필요가 없어요

무료로 누구나 참석할 수 있는 행사로, 먼저 온 순서대로 입장이 가능합니다. 길거리에서 누군가가 "티켓"을 사라 하면 무시하세요. 사지 않도록 주의하세요. 최대한 일찍 도착하는 것이 좋습니다. 행사 당일 사람들이 새벽 일찍 주변에 줄을 서기 시작하니까요.

2. 일찍 도착할수록 좋아요

일찍 도착할수록 잘 볼 수 있습니다. 어떤 사람들은 연말 행사 당일 새벽 일찍이 줄을 서기 시작합니다. 얼마나 가까이 있고싶은 지에 따라 일찍 일어나서 가셔야 합니다. 한 번 자리를 잡으면 절대 떠나지 마세요! 순식간에 사라질 것입니다. 행사 전날 도착하고 호텔을 잡으시는 것도 추천드려요.

3. 가기 전에 밥을 드세요

타임스퀘어 길거리엔 원래 스트리트 푸드를 파는 트럭들이 많죠. 이 날엔 없습니다. 사람들이 너무 많아 푸드 트럭이 설치될 공간이 없거든요. 하지만 주변에 레스토랑들이 많이 있으니까 일찍 가서 식사를 하세요. 미리 예약을 하시는 게 좋을 거예요. 혹은 테이크아웃을 하거나 간식과 음료를 싸가서 현장에서 드시는 것도 추천드려요. 자리를 잡는 게 워낙 어려우니 좋은 자리를 잡으면 놓치면 안되니까요.

4. 따듯하게 입고 가세요

무조건 따뜻하게 입으세요. 오랜 시간 서 있어야 하니 정말 빠르게 추워질 거예요. 나갈 땐 안 추운 것 같아도 밤엔 무조건 추워지니 꼭 두껍게 입고 가세요.

5. 짐은 많이 가져가지 마세요

입구 및 지정된 관람 지역에서는 입장하기 전에 짐 검사를 실시합니다. 큰 가방과 배낭은 가져가면 안되니까 작은 가방을 가져가거나 아예 가방을 가져가지 마세요.

6. 기차를 타고 이동하세요

뉴욕에서는 택시를 이용하는 게 비싸요. 특히 새해 전야 같은 날에는 요금이 확 올라갑니다.

주차 공간은 없고 사람들이 많아 택시 요금이 인상됩니다. 대중 교통을 이용하여 이벤트 근처의 역에 도착해서 걸어가는 걸 추천드려요.

그랜드 센트럴에서 오는 경우, 터미널에서 타임스퀘어로 직접 운행되는 특정 지하철 노선이 있습니다. 내리는 역에 따라 몇 블록을 걸어야 할 수 있으므로 편안한 신발을 신으시기 바랍니다. 1, 2, 3, 7, A, B, C, D, E, F, N, Q, R, W, V 및 S 셔틀 열차가 모두 타임 스퀘어 지역으로 갑니다.

7. 술은 가져가시면 안돼요

뉴욕은 공공장소에서 음주가 불법이에요. 타임스퀘어를 순찰하는 경찰관이 매우 많을 거고, 술이 보이면 무조건 압수를 할 겁니다.

8. 도착하기 전에 화장실을 꼭 다녀오세요

타임스퀘어에는 이동식 화장실이 없으므로 도착하기 전이나 근처의 음식점에서 화장실을 이용하셔야 돼요. 계획을 세우세요. 대부분의 음식점이 화장실을 이용하려면 돈을 내셔야 합니다.

행사 중간에 화장실을 가면 다시 못 들어올 가능성이 높아요. 좋은 자리를 얻으셨다면 그 자리를 꼭 지키세요!

9. 볼이 올라가는 걸 꼭 보세요

타임스퀘어 뉴 이어스 이브 볼은 오후 6시에 타임스퀘어 위로 올려집니다. 브로드웨이(43번가 - 50번가)와 7th avenue를 따라(59번가까지)가 가장 구경하기 좋은 곳입니다.

10. 다른 관광지도 가보세요
