The Kunsthistorisches Museum - or Museum of Art History - hosts sumptuous, imperial collections in a building that features state-of-the-art technology and display facilities.

The building itself is a work of art that features a wealth of neo-baroque decorations. The ideal setting then, for housing pieces by old masters such as Rubens, Raphael, and Rembrandt. 

What’s more, you’ll even find the gold leaf works of one of Austria’s most famous sons, Gustav Klimt, and some pieces by his lesser-known but equally talented brother Ernst Klimt.

Highlights

The Kunstkammer - or Chamber of Art and Wonders contains rarities from the former treasure chambers and cabinets of curiosities of the Habsburgs.

Egyptian and Near Eastern Collection - comprising over 17,000 objects from Egypt, Nubia, the eastern Mediterranean to the Arabian Peninsula. Artifacts date from a period of almost 4,000 years.

Greek and Roman Antiquities - spanning more than three millennia, the objects on display here range from Bronze Age ceramics to early Medieval finds.

Coin Collection - one of the five largest and most important coin collections in the world with some 600,000 pieces including coins, but also paper money, medallions, orders, and more.
