    The Army Museum

    Up to an hour
€15.00Included with the All-Inclusive Pass Plus

Although now the home of some 500,000 objects, The Army Museum at Les Invalides was originally built by Louis XIV as a hospital and home for disabled soldiers. The Musée de L'Armée was established in 1905 by merging the collections of the Artillery Museum and the Historical Army Museum. It now houses a huge collection of weapons, armour, artillery, uniforms, emblems and paintings. The other big draw of The Army Museum is that it is the location of the Tomb of Napoléon. Although he was originally buried on the island of St Helena, King Louis-Philippe ordered the emperor's body be returned to France. Designed by the architect Visconti, the tomb has a green granite base and is circled by a crown of laurels and inscriptions of the great victories of the Empire. The body of the Emperor was laid in the tomb on April 2nd 1861.
