What you'll do

As the only major league sports team in San Antonio, the Spurs are more than just a basketball team—they’re the heartbeat of the city. Catch a game at their home court, and you’ll quickly see why the Silver and Black are so beloved.

It all began in the summer of 1973 when a group of local investors leased the Dallas Chaparrals and brought the team to San Antonio. By mid-season, the group purchased the franchise outright, and the Spurs have been a cornerstone of San Antonio culture ever since.

Over the past 50 years, the Spurs have built a legacy of excellence. Since joining the NBA in 1976, they’ve won more games than any other franchise and captured five NBA Championships along the way.

Today’s Spurs are led by rising star Victor Wembanyama, who dazzled fans in his rookie season, averaging 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, an NBA-leading 3.58 blocks, and 1.24 steals per game. The 2023-24 Rookie of the Year earned First Team All-Defense honors and came in second for Defensive Player of the Year voting. Alongside Wembanyama, Keldon Johnson enters his sixth season as the team’s longest-tenured player, with Devin Vassell following close behind after a breakout year averaging 19.5 points. Rounding out the young core is the versatile Jeremy Sochan.

This offseason, the Spurs strengthened their roster with two seasoned veterans: Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes. Paul brings an illustrious career that includes 12 All-Star appearances, 11 All-NBA selections, and a slew of awards recognizing both his on-court prowess and off-court leadership. Barnes, known for his dependability, has played 222 consecutive games and adds valuable experience to the lineup.

With the fourth overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, the Spurs selected Stephon Castle from the University of Connecticut. Castle, a key contributor to UConn’s National Championship run, averaged 11.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game as a freshman. Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, Castle helped lead the Huskies to a program-record 37 wins.

At the helm is legendary coach Gregg Popovich, entering his 29th season with the Spurs. The longest-tenured coach in any major U.S. sport, Popovich is the NBA’s all-time leader in regular-season wins. His 1,300+ victories with San Antonio stand as a testament to his unparalleled success with one franchise.

Whether you’re a basketball fan or simply looking for a taste of San Antonio’s passion, a Spurs game is an experience you won’t want to miss!
