    About this experience

Fancy swapping Seoul's soaring skyscrapers for towering trees, rural riverside walks and European culture? This day trip to Nami Island, Petite France and Italian Village is the perfect antidote to the noise and chaos of the South Korean capital and lets you experience some of the country’s most beautiful – and quirky – countryside attractions.

Shaped like a half moon, Nami Island is a cute little sliver of land in the middle of the North Han River, perhaps best known for its starring role in iconic K-drama Winter Sonata – there’s even a statue of lead characters Jeong Yoo-jin and Kang Joon-sang, who famously shared their first kiss here! This wooded sanctuary, all peaceful lakes, lofty pine and redwood trees, and traditional pagodas is a treat whenever you visit. Expect a riot of pink cherry blossoms in spring, lazy riverside picnics and gentle bike rides in summer, blazing maple and ginkgo leaves in autumn and a magical snow-blanketed landscape in winter.

Set in the Gapyeong mountains, Petite France is a colorful homage to the French countryside that’s every bit as Instagrammable as Nami Island. Brightly painted houses congregate around the town square and riverside; there’s even a memorial hall dedicated to Saint-Exupéry, author of Le Petit Prince, as well as a gallery packed with paintings and sculptures of France’s national symbol Le Coq Gaulois, or Gallic rooster.

Italian Village is themed around Pinocchio and Leonardo da Vinci and, alongside authentic Italianate architecture, elegant boulevards and an Italian cultural museum, creates the convincing illusion that you’re strolling the streets of old Italy. Catch a Pinocchio puppet show, discover the life and works of da Vinci and cool off with an authentic gelato as you watch the world go by.

The tour departs Seoul at 9.30AM, visiting Petite France and the neighboring Italian Village, then Nami Island, before commencing the 90-minute return journey to Seoul at 4.30PM.

Nami Island, Petite France and Italian Village Tour facts

    • You won’t see any telegraph poles or overhead electrical wires on Nami Island – to preserve the island’s natural beauty they’re all buried underground!
