켄싱턴 궁전은 런던 중심가에 위치한 왕실 저택 중 하나로, 17세기부터 왕실 가족의 거주지이자 피난처였습니다. 현재는 웨일스 공작과 공작부인의 공식 거주지입니다. 1605년에 지어진 이 궁전은 제이콥 시대 건축 양식을 기반으로 하며, 원래는 노팅엄 하우스라는 이름으로 알려졌습니다. 윌리엄 3세와 메리 2세가 1689년에 공동 즉위하면서 노팅엄 하우스를 켄싱턴 궁전으로 바꾸는 데 중요한 역할을 했습니다.

1694년 메리 여왕이 천연두로 사망하자 윌리엄은 깊은 슬픔에 빠졌지만, 크리스토퍼 렌 경의 원래 설계에 남쪽에 웅장한 갤러리를 추가하며 궁전을 완성했습니다. 현재는 런던에서 가장 아름다운 궁전 중 하나로 손꼽히며, 광대한 정원과 세계적으로 유명한 오랑주리(오렌지 온실)를 자랑합니다.

C’est une visite à faire si on est fan de la monarchie anglaise. Ce qui n’est pas le cas pour nous, donc nous avons fait la visite en 30 minutes sans l’audio guide si nous avions fait la visite avec le guide, il n’y en avait pour 2h30. N’étant pas fan de la monarchie anglaise, nous avions pas trop d’intérêt à faire ça.

The staff was lovely. While there were no special exhibits, we enjoyed the interaction with the costumed actors and seeing a bit of the palace and a bit of shopping as well.

Although the visit was filled with historical info, many rooms were lacking furnishings and felt quite cold and sad.

There's no way you can go to London without seeing Kensington Palace, however it was a bit underwhelming, especially on the outside. That being said, there's plenty of interesting things to see and read inside, and it's very cool to learn about the history of the royalty who have inhabited the palace. But aesthetically it was a bit dimmer and duller than expected of a palace
