The Hoover Dam is located on the border of Nevada and Arizona in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River.
The dam protects Arizona from flooding of the Colorado River and is a major energy source for Nevada, California, and Arizona.
It took five years to build the Hoover Dam, from April 20, 1931, to March 1, 1936.
The Hoover Dam was built during the Great Depression and is named after President Herbert Hoover.
More than 100 people died from causes related to the construction of the dam.
The Hoover Dam is 726 feet tall.

Brilliant Trip. Driver witty and knowledgeable.
John ·This was one of the best experiences of our trip to Vegas. Our host Robert, witty, knowledgeable and all round good guy. The distance was only 45-50 minute drive meaning you were not stuck on a coach all day. As people were on time, he took us to a couple of extra photo stops near Lake Mead. The Dam visit was amazing. We only had 90 minutes on the site so were chose not to do the generator visit. This gave us enough time to comfortably walk all the way to the Arizona side of the Dam and back. Picked up at 0915 and back on the strip for 1500hrs. Would highly recommended this. Sights were amazing, staff excellent ands not too far.
