Originally established as a hunting lodge in the 12th century, it was upgraded into a Renaissance-style château in 1538. Successive kings expanded on the castle in the following years.

You have the opportunity to experience the culmination of 800 years of finest paintings, furnishing, tapestries, décor and objets d’art. Totalling 1500 rooms, Château de Fontainebleau’s stunning interiors result in a seemingly endless series of sumptuous galleries, halls and boudoirs, each more ornate than the last.
