Avoid Chief Rob!

We read the reviews and prayed we did not get Rob! We in fact did get Rob. As we are getting on the bus I asked his name - he snapped back at me and said his name was Rob and he would tell us all that when we all get on the bus. I thought oh Lord, here we go…he talks about himself more than he talks about the island. I know where his Dad worked, I know where he and his 2 boys work. I know he used to be 210 lbs and now is 250. His son is 280. He is an amateur surf champion. I know where his family goes to the dentist!!! Why do I need to know any of these things. The worst part is we are passing things he could be telling us about. At our 2nd stop he got out leis for us to look at. He said we didn’t have to listen and could go to the bus but when a friend and I walked by, it through him into a tailspin. He was so mad. He told us about saving this young girl and he and his wife are going to adopt her. He showed us a pic of her. This is all random, out of nowhere. I’m sure he was working it for a tip but he lost a lot of tips that day. He would have been better off telling us about the island, doing a good job at that and would have gotten more tips. He wants to be a comedian and tries to do impressions and be funny and gets mad when no one laughs. He will ask if he is doing a good job and one person might say yeah so, he will ask louder as if no one heard him so a few more ppl might say yes that time. He forces good feedback. He took us to a beach to snorkel that was BROWN and filled with homeless ppl. It was disgusting. The only ppl that got in were a couple of kids. Rob said he was off on the weekends, so if you can go then, I would. When you book, ask for Henry. Just make sure you don’t get Rob. We unfortunately did not read the reviews until the day before and we were already booked.

SAVE YOUR TIME

Yes, I knew this was advertised as an all-day, 9-hour tour. What I wasn’t prepared for was 9 hours feeling like 18 hours of listening to someone who absolutely loves the sound of his own voice. “Chief Rob” spends an exhausting amount of time talking about himself and his family. There was far less interesting history and information about Oahu than I expected from a tour like this. And to make matters worse, he repeatedly hounded us for positive reviews and feedback. If a tour is good, guests shouldn’t have to be pressured into saying so. The only reason we booked this tour was for the snorkeling with the turtles. Thankfully, we did see turtles, and that was the highlight of the entire day. But then came the part that really shocked me. On the way to the beach where we were supposed to snorkel, we were taken down a trail through what appeared to be a homeless encampment. The area smelled strongly of urine and beer, and there were piles of human feces along the side of the trail. None of this was mentioned anywhere in the itinerary. I’m all for experiencing the real side of a place, but there is a huge difference between authentic sightseeing and taking paying tourists through an area like this without any warning—especially when it’s the only way to get to an activity that was a major selling point of the tour. By the end of the 9 hours, we were completely over it. Oahu is absolutely beautiful and has SO much to offer. There are countless better ways to spend a day on this island than sitting through hours of self-focused commentary and then walking through a disgusting trail just to reach the snorkeling beach. Would I do this tour again? Absolutely not. Would I recommend it? Absolutely not. Would I spend my money on it again? Not a chance. Do yourself a favor and find another way to experience Oahu. You’ll thank me for saving you 9 hours of your vacation.

Tbh don’t do it. It’s boring. Long. Expensive. Not good. Guide was a complete perv. The place to snorkel is brown.
