Staten Island Children's Museum
Kids will love to play and interact with the exhibits in the Staten Island Children’s Museum, including a human-sized anthill, a 1940s fire truck and a mini theater.
What you'll do
With indoor and outdoor areas, the Staten Island Children’s Museum is a great place for kids to learn about the world around them and make lots of new playmates!
Kids can let their imaginations run wild in this wonderland of inspirational activities for ages one and upwards.
In this museum, the exhibits are very much hands-on, intended for play and interaction rather than simply to be admired. Kids can design and build a house, dress up to play their favorite character on stage, become a vet and care for animals, experience the effects of air currents, wear an exoskeleton, drive a dogsled in the tundra and so much more.
Highlights
Big Games
Mini adventurers will delight at the oversized objects in this very popular exhibit. Challenge a friend to a game on the giant chess board, knock over huge dominoes and play Connect Four. There’s also a chance to build your own log cabin!
Bugs & Other Arthropods
Head to the Bugs zone to get up close to spiders, centipedes, bees, butterflies and other creatures great and small. Meet Brazilian tarantulas and giant African millipedes, and explore how ant-hills function by climbing inside one!
Portia’s Playhouse
Budding young thespians will thrill at the opportunity to dress up and take to the stage in Portia’s Playhouse, an authentic mini theater environment where creativity is encouraged. There’s also a puppet theater where kids can perform their own fairy tales.
House About It
Operate the crane, conveyor belt and wrecking ball on this building site, where an unfinished two-story house lets kids explore how pipework, electrical wiring and more are installed. This exhibit encourages teamwork and highlights the architects and construction workers who design and build houses and communities.
