<h2>DAY 3 Stop #1: Statue of Liberty &amp; Ellis Island</h2>

Hop aboard a ferry to set sail for two of New York City&#39;s most famous attractions - the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Liberty Island features the iconic Lady Liberty statue, with tours of the grounds and access to different parts the statue available through the National Park Service. The Ellis Island Immigration Museum is another awesome attraction on a separate island, offering a chance for many Americans to explore their heritage, and for all to soak up the vibrant history of this once-hectic immigration center. <h2>Stop #3: Battery Park (free!)</h2>

Head down to the southernmost point of Manhattan and enjoy the lovely waterfront views available at Battery Park. There are a number of small attractions within the park, like the Museum of Jewish Heritage and the Skyscraper Museum, as well as some public art pieces like the beautiful sculpture entitled &quot;The Sphere.&quot;

Admission to the park is free for all, but some of the activities may require additional costs. We recommend reserving about a half hour for Battery Park if you aren&#39;t planning to visit any of the other attractions.

<h2>Stop #4: Whitney Museum of Art (indoor option)</h2>

Another one for the art lovers is the beautiful Whitney Museum of American Art. Visitors to this Lower Manhattan mainstay will get to enjoy their full range of exhibits and programming, which includes everything from twentieth-century painting to works of art made just last year!

<h2>Day 2 Stop #1: Empire State Building</h2>

Begin your afternoon with a visit to one of the most iconic buildings in all of New York City &ndash; the Empire State Building. Ascend to the 86th floor of the Empire State Building of this architectural marvel for some of the best views and photo opportunities. In addition to being a fascinating structure, the Empire State Building is also steeped with historical significance.

There&rsquo;s a lot to offer for architecture buffs, for example, with regards to its art deco d&eacute;cor. Don&rsquo;t forget your camera! We recommend reserving at least 2 hours for this attraction. Keep in mind that elevator lines will add to your overall time spent at the attraction.

<h2>Stop #2: High Line Park (Free!)</h2>

The High Line is one of New York City&#39;s hidden gems. It&#39;s a beautiful green park made from the remains of an old elevated rail line that runs from the Meatpacking District to West 34th Street. Along the way, you&#39;ll pass through the artsy neighborhood of Chelsea. Visitors can choose to walk the entire 1.45 miles or get off at one of several descent points.

There are some excellent options for lunch in Chelsea (including the famed Chelsea Market) if your timing works out to find you in this area around mid-afternoon. The High Line is free for all! Visit the High Line website for more detailed information about what you can see and do along the trail.

If you like, walk the full length of the High Line all the way up to the glimmering new neighborhood of Hudson Yards where you&#39;ll find the stunning lattice-like structure and exciting outdoor viewpoint, The Vessel. This network of staircases reaches 150 feet into the sky and gives daring climbers a whole host of new perspectives to view the city in.

<h2>Stop #3: Top of the Rock Observatory</h2>

For comparative purposes, you&#39;ll want to conclude your afternoon with the amazing aerial views of New York available from the Top of the Rock Observatory. It&rsquo;s one of the most popular things to do in all of New York, and it&rsquo;s truly a unique perspective on the city. The Top of the Rock has three floors of indoor and outdoor observation decks, plus 360-degree views of the city below.

Some of the landmarks you&rsquo;ll be able to spot from this vantage point include the Chrysler Building, the Freedom Tower, Central Park, and more. We recommend reserving between 1-2 hours for this attraction, although visiting this late in the day will mean longish wait times. If you&#39;re only choosing one observation deck on your NYC itinerary, make sure to visit early in the day.

<h2>Stop #2: Times Square (free!)</h2>

It&#39;s about one of the most touristy things to do out there, but it&#39;s a must-see for a reason. The hustle and bustle of New York City life really converge on Times Square, and it&#39;s a unique chance to see some of the more bizarre figures in NYC pop culture.

It&#39;s also a great place to souvenir shop, with everything from iconic shops like the Disney Store to hole-in-the-wall trinket joints. You&#39;ll likely only want to spend a short time here unless you&#39;re shopping, so reserve between 30 minutes and an hour of your morning.

<h2>Stop #3: Intrepid Museum (indoor option)</h2>

This science and history museum is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the history of American military craft across generations. They offer a variety of permanent and special rotating exhibits that highlight specific conflicts or vessels, all with real artifacts, authentic photographs, and behind-the-scenes info. The Intrepid itself is also a National Historic Landmark, so even just a quick walk across the ship is like stepping back in time.

Now, as an exciting bonus, our admission includes the Space Shuttle Pavilion! See the Enterprise, the shuttle which was responsible for so much of the progress made in early NASA spaceflight programs (Mercury and Gemini). There are also several photos and other artifacts as part of this exhibit, so be sure to stay for a while to scope the whole area out.

This comprehensive two-hour NYC cruise is a perfect option for those looking for panoramic views of the New York City skyline. <h2>New York public transport</h2>

The <a href="http://www.mta.info/schedules" target="_blank">Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA)</a> is New York City&rsquo;s public transportation system which consists of subways, buses, and ferries with most lines operating 24 hours a day.

Ⓜ️ The subway system has 24 lines, identified by either letters (A, B, C, etc.) or numbers (1, 2, 3, etc.). These routes serve Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens. They connect the upper and lower halves of Manhattan, with stops covering almost anywhere you need to go.

🚌The MTA bus system has 253 local routes and 71 express bus routes in NYC&rsquo;s five boroughs. Bus stops are located at street corners and have a tall, round sign with a bus emblem and route number. Most stops also include a &ldquo;Guide-A-Ride&rdquo;, a sign displaying the route map and bus schedule.

🚆If you are looking to get even further than the boroughs, the MTA also offers daily trains that run between NYC and Long Island, Westchester, the Hudson Valley, and even Connecticut. The MTA website has more information about the NYC transit system and schedules.

Head to any public transit station, look for an MTA Ticket Booth or machine, and select the pass that works best for you. You can purchase MTA cards for single rides, unlimited rides, or you can figure out how much you think you&#39;ll be using the MTA and load on an exact amount of cash to your card.

💡&nbsp;Tip: Make sure to keep your MTA card for the duration of your trip, as you&#39;ll be able to re-load them if needed free of charge!

Consider renting a bike for a day as a fun and memorable way to get around the city. Explore Brooklyn and its famous bridge, bike around to all the sights in Central Park, or check out the many miles of New York&rsquo;s waterfront paths. <h2>Taxis&nbsp;🚕</h2>

New York City&rsquo;s famous yellow taxis are widely available throughout the city, and relatively easy to hail.

Avoid rush hour as traffic can be bad and make your ride pricey. In addition to yellow taxis, many popular ridesharing services are also available in New York and are easy to use; simply download an app on your phone.

❗&nbsp;Some taxis only accept cash&nbsp;&mdash;&nbsp; be sure to account for any tolls that you may pass through when estimating your fare.

<h2>Getting to New York City</h2>

<h3>✈️ By plane</h3>

<a href="https://www.jfkairport.com/" target="_blank">John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK</a>), located in Queens, is about 15 miles from midtown Manhattan - about a 1-hour taxi ride.

You can use public transportation to avoid the hefty cab prices. Take the JFK&#39;s<a href="https://www.jfkairport.com/to-from-airport/air-train" target="_blank"> AirTrain</a>, their public transit line to connect with New York City&rsquo;s subways, buses, and rails.

Public transportation is the most affordable way to get to downtown, and may be the fastest with traffic.

<a href="https://www.newarkairport.com/" target="_blank">Newark-Liberty International Airport (EWR)</a>, located in New Jersey, Newark might be your best option if Manhattan is your destination. It&#39;s 16 miles from midtown, but the cab ride is shorter than the ride from JFK.

There are toll fares to get to Manhattan, so the price of a taxi is comparable to one from JFK.

<a href="https://www.laguardiaairport.com/">LaGuardia Airport (LGA)</a>, also in Queens but only 8 miles from Manhattan, is the closest airport to Manhattan. The airport is accessible via public transportation and a cab ride to midtown will take about 20-40 minutes.

<h3>🚆By train</h3>

<a href="https://www.amtrak.com/home.html" target="_blank">Amtrak</a> runs frequent service to NYC&#39;s Penn Station from most major cities in Amtrak&#39;s Northeast Corridor, such as Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. From Penn Station, located on Seventh Avenue between 31st and 33rd streets, you&#39;ll easily be able to grab a taxi or hop on public transportation.

<h3>🚌 By bus</h3>

Taking a bus to and from NYC can often be the most inexpensive way to get to Manhattan. Some popular bus company names are <a href="https://us.megabus.com/" target="_blank">Megabus</a>, <a href="https://www.flixbus.com/boltbus" target="_blank">FlixBusUSA</a>, and <a href="https://www.greyhound.com/" target="_blank">Greyhound</a> and most bus companies will drop passengers off at major landmarks.

Top of the Rock General Admission:

Completed in 1933, the building is one of the most recognized skyscrapers in New York and embodies the architectural style of its time, with lots of classic Art Deco details. The building was commissioned by John D. Rockefeller and construction began and continued during the Great Depression, sealing the building&#39;s status as an icon of American prosperity and hope in times of economic downturn and despair.

30 Rockefeller Plaza is the official address of the Center&#39;s tallest building, also known as &#39;30 Rock,&#39; and is the location of the show&nbsp;30 Rock, starring Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan, Jane Krakowski, and Jack McBrayer, among others.

Top of the Rock

	<li>To avoid the largest crowds, plan to visit One World Observatory early in the morning. Weekday visits tend to also be less busy.</li>
	<li>Be prepared to pass through TSA-style security to keep lines moving at a quick pace.</li>
	<li>Check the forecast before you go, a low visibility day will affect your views.</li>
	<li>Check the time of sunset before you go if you want to be at the top for the &quot;golden hour&quot; before sunset.</li>

One World Observatory tips

Completed in 2013, One World Trade Center is the second-tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, and the sixth-tallest building in the world. Both buildings are located in Manhattan near other popular attractions, but the two buildings are about 4 miles apart.&nbsp;

Top of the Rock:&nbsp;Top of the Rock is located in Mid-Manhattan closer to Central Park and Times Square.&nbsp;

One World Observatory:&nbsp;One World Observatory is located near the southern point of Manhattan, in the Financial District, and close to the water.

<h2>Comparing the scenic views:</h2>

Though only 4 miles apart, the views from the two buildings are very different. Closer to the southern point of Manhattan, One World Observatory has views of the Financial District&#39;s surrounding buildings, the Statue of Liberty, and the water. Alternatively, Top of the Rock offers great views of Midtown Manhattan&#39;s surrounding buildings, Central Park (you can&#39;t see it from One World Observatory at all), and Times Square.

Both observatories offer stunning views of the Empire State Building (from Top of the Rock you can see it while looking south, from One World Observatory you can see while looking north). While One World Observatory is completely enclosed, the Top of the Rock offers both enclosed and open-air viewing decks.
