What you'll do

Head to Sunset Beach where your knowledgeable teacher will show you how to use coconut palm leaves to weave a beautiful Hawaiian basket. You’ll learn all about the history and technique of this traditional craft while enjoying beautiful beach views. Take your basket home with you for a unique, personal Oahu souvenir or gift.

The palm fronds are woven into each other to create baskets, bags and mats.
Weaving is an ancient Hawaiian tradition and is passed down through families.

What's included

A basket weaving lesson (45min) with an experienced teacher.
All the materials you will need to make a basket.
You get to keep your basket as a souvenir.

Getting in

Please meet the instructor and show your pass at Sunset Beach (she will be wearing a flower in her hair), adjacent to the surfing break known as Log Cabins and across the street from the Sunset Beach recreation center.

There is a 24-hour cancellation policy.
More information about the meeting location will be given upon reservation. Please make sure to read the directions carefully so you know how to find the meeting location on the beach.

Visitor tips

Minors can only attend with their legal guardian. Classes are recommended for children 5 years and older.
It is recommended that you bring a cell phone in case you need help locating the class.
You will be on the beach, so a beach towel or chair, sunblock and water are recommended.
Parking is available on Kamehameha Highway or Sunset Beach recreation center.
