<h3>How Old is Philly&#39;s Chinatown?</h3>

At over 150 years old, it&#39;s one of Philadelphia&#39;s oldest neighborhoods. And you can see that history on nearly every street corner.

One of the first things that greets you as you arrive in Philadelphia&#39;s Chinatown is the Friendship Gate. This 40-foot arch is covered in bright carvings and red and white colors. The gate itself was donated by Philadelphia&#39;s Chinese sister city of Tianjin back in the mid-Eighties. Since then, the arch has had work done on it to keep it at its best, but it&#39;s still very much the same arch from way back when.&nbsp; 
It&#39;s one of the city&#39;s most photographed landmarks, so why not go ahead and add it to your collection? It&#39;s sure to inspire envy from your four social media followers.&nbsp;

Go see the Friendship Gate

Another of Chinatown&#39;s most beloved mainstays is Reading Terminal Market. Campo&#39;s is one of the most popular spots in the market, known for its delicious Philly cheesesteaks. When in Philly and all that. If you&#39;re looking for something sweet, be sure to try a mooncake from Termini Brothers Bakery.

Dienner&#39;s Country Store is a great place to grab some fresh produce, and the Headhouse Shops are full of gift ideas for your loved ones back home. There are also plenty of food stalls throughout the market serving up everything from tacos to BBQ, so you&#39;re sure to find something to your taste.

Inside, you&#39;ll find an extensive menu of traditional dim sum dishes, all of which come fresh and piping hot. If you can&#39;t decide what to order, try the Dim Sum House Special, a selection of eight dim sum dishes that give you a little taste of everything.

For a more upscale dining experience, head to Han Dynasty. This restaurant serves Sichuan-style cuisine, so if you like a bit of spice, you know where to go. The menu features both traditional and modern dishes, so there&#39;s something for everyone. We recommend the Spicy Cumin Lamb, a dish that is sure to tantalize your taste buds.

If you&#39;re looking for a quick and easy meal, look no further than Beijing Chinese Restaurant. This restaurant specializes in noodles and dumplings, all of which are made fresh to order. The menu is small but mighty, and we highly recommend the beef noodle soup. On colder days, it&#39;s sure to warm your cockles!

Grab some authentic Chinese food

It may surprise you, but Chinatown is quickly becoming one of the best places in Philadelphia to get your caffeine fix. So, if you need a pick-me-up, head to one of our favorites.

A La Mousse combines great coffee with some of the best sweet treats in the city. Just a stone&#39;s throw from Reading Terminal Market, it would be criminal not to try one cafe&#39;s pastries with your joe. Their matcha cake is simply divine.

The bartenders are also very friendly and knowledgeable, so don&#39;t be afraid to ask for recommendations. And if you ask nicely enough, they&#39;re sure to rustle you up whatever you like.

The second pick is <a href="http://www.sampanphilly.com/" target="_blank">Sampan</a>, a place where you&#39;ll find both refreshing drinks and delicious food courtesy of chef Michael Schulson. Sit for a dish in its upmarket front, or head through the Graffiti Bar at the back. You get the same selection in this open-air patio as you would front-of-house, but with a more laid-back atmosphere, sports on the TVs, and some glorious sunshine (if you&#39;re lucky).

They&rsquo;re also not going to want to spend too much time at attractions that are geared towards younger children &ndash; drag them along to things like aquariums, ferris wheels and dinosaur skeletons and they&rsquo;ll soon be back on to their social media feed and begging to be left home next time. But depending on where you go, and how much research you&rsquo;re prepared to do, there are plenty of activities that should keep them entertained and ready to admit they know you. In Philadelphia, for example, there&rsquo;s plenty of variety, no matter what their interests or whether they prefer being indoors or outdoors:

Take them out on a floating barge, or leave them to lounge in a hammock in the sun while you sample some craft beer or cocktails.

If your teen loves ice rinks, roller rinks or romantic comedies, then they can get their skates on at any time of year in Philadelphia. From May through September the Pennsylvania riverfront comes alive with the <a href="https://www.delawareriverwaterfront.com/" style="text-decoration:none">RiverRink Summerfest</a>, complete with outdoor skating rink, rides, mini-golf and other games, so you can leave them to it while you entertain any younger family members. Either way there&rsquo;s plenty to intrigue at the<a href="https://gocity.com/philadelphia/en-us/products/all-inclusive/attractions/eastern-state-penitentiary" style="text-decoration:none"> Eastern State Penitentiary</a>, from the high, vaulted ceilings and now empty gun towers to the eerily thought-provoking death row cells. Learn about some of its more infamous residents, including &lsquo;Slick Willie&rsquo; Sutton, and catch a glimpse into the surprisingly well-furnished cell of one of the world&rsquo;s most famous gangsters, Al Capone.

Get some perspective at the Eastern State Penitentiary

There are plenty of professional league teams in Philadelphia, so if your teen loves sport you&rsquo;ll score plenty of brownie points by taking them to a match or two. If they&rsquo;re into football, take them to an Eagles match at the Linc, for Baseball the Phillies play at Citizens Bank Park or if Soccer&rsquo;s their thing there&rsquo;s the Philadelphia Union at the Talen Energy Stadium. Well, over a century before the name and date were set in stone, a group of women in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, decorated the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers. This very local act of kindness inspired a nationwide celebration, which was then termed Decoration Day (which became Memorial Day back in 1971). While it&rsquo;s less famous than its New York City or Chicago cousins, the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade is the oldest of its kind in the country. Located about an hour from Center City Philadelphia in New Hope, PA, this charming historic town boasts more than 60 specialty shops that are ideal for holiday shopping. Their festive decorations are practically unparalleled, too&mdash;a truly inspiring start to the holiday season.

<h3>Winter at Dilworth Park</h3>

November - February

This Center City locale is a popular site for holiday festivities, offering up everything from an ice rink (opening usually early November) to an inside garden space in Dilworth Park called Winter Garden. You&rsquo;ll also find an abundance of glittering holiday lights here, with vendors offering hot cocoa and apple cider, and all that welcomes you into the Christmas season. Dilworth Park also hosts many events throughout the year including fall and winter markets, concerts, and even an Oktoberfest event, should you be visiting before Thanksgiving.

Another bastion of holiday cheer with its glittering lights, glamorous decorations, and cheerful music, Franklin Square is one of the top places in the city to celebrate the oncoming season. During the week of Thanksgiving, they usually host Thanksgiving craft-making events for kids, while after the focus is on Christmas. Also located in Dilworth Park, this expansive holiday market features nearly 50 different artists and artisans selling their beautiful handcrafted wares. It&rsquo;s right across the street from the Christmas Village, a German-style marketplace which is held in LOVE Park.
