Borghese Museum Rome - Tips for a Great Visit

If you're planning a visit to the Borghese Museum in Rome, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. First, book your tickets in advance because this place is popular and can sell out fast. And don't forget your ID; they'll check this at the door. Also, there's a strict no-bag policy inside the gallery, so pack light or use the lockers. Lastly, wear comfy shoes. This grand collection was built up over several centuries of Borghese nobility, particularly by Scipione Borghese, a prominent cardinal during the Paul V papacy. The Borgheses are one of the best-known ancient houses in Italy, famed for their involvement in government, society, and the Catholic church.

The influential family amassed a great fortune, and so big was their collection of antiquities it was decided to move all of it from their other Roman properties to the beautiful Villa Borghese. The stunning Villa is set within the Villa Borghese park, a lush green space to while away an afternoon.

By 1901, the museum became the property of the Italian government and is known today as one of Rome’s most popular museums.

Regular tickets to the Borghese Gallery can be hard to come by thanks to its huge popularity, so make sure this one is added to your itinerary!
