This small central Madrid gallery showcases notable artists from the 19th and 20th centuries.
For more than three decades, Fundación MAPFRE has been one of the focal points of Madrid's cultural agenda for its exhibitions of fine arts and photography.
Exhibitions include paintings and sculptures focused on some of the world's most famous artists (Renoir, Van Gogh, Picasso, etc.) and the main movements of artistic modernity (Impressionism, Avant-Garde, Surrealism, etc.).
The photography exhibitions also range from the great masters of the 20th century to those who represent the best expression of artistic photography today.
The Foundation is located in the Palace of the Duchess of Medina de las Torres, built between 1881 and 1884, a building representative of historical architecture.

Alejandro Cartagena - Ground Rules
Alejandro Cartagena (Dominican Republic, 1977) has developed a body of work that moves away from the notion of the “decisive moment” and is structured around seriality and multiple perspectives.
This exhibition, co-produced by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Fundación Mapfre, invites viewers to engage with a photographic practice that explores the complex realities of Mexico. Through a critical and humanistic lens, the artist addresses key issues such as migration, housing, the U.S.–Mexico border, and urban transformation.
Richard Avedon - In the American West, 1979–1984
Richard Avedon (New York, 1923–2004) combined his celebrated career in fashion with photographic projects of profound social engagement, such as In the American West.
The exhibition, organized by the Fondation Cartier-Bresson and Fundación Mapfre, presents the result of five years traveling through the American West, where Avedon photographed miners, cowboys, and farmers against an iconic white backdrop that highlights each individual’s identity. Moving away from the idealized vision of the American West, Avedon transformed portrait photography into a human testimony and became an essential reference in contemporary art.
