The Presbytere was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1970.
The Presbytere was designed in 1791 to match the Cabildo located on the other side of St. Louis Cathedral. In 2005, the cupola atop the Presbytère was replaced which has been missing since the New Orleans Hurricane of 1915.
