Although he was originally buried on the island of St Helena, King Louis-Philippe ordered the emperor's body be returned to France. Designed by the architect Visconti, the tomb has a green granite base and is circled by a crown of laurels and inscriptions of the great victories of the Empire. The body of the Emperor was laid in the tomb on April 2nd 1861.

Paris' 18th-century Pantheon is the final resting place of some of the most famous and illustrious French intellectuals. Within this imposing neoclassical building, you'll find the tombs of internationally famous intellectuals, including Voltaire and Victor Hugo. The Pantheon was originally destined to be a religious building. When King Louis XV recovered from an illness in 1744 he vowed that he would rebuild the ruined church of Sainte-Geneviève in Paris’s Latin quarter. However, after the revolution, the new government ordered that the Pantheon not be used for religious purposes but as a mausoleum for the greatest French intellectuals.

A gem of Gothic architecture, Sainte Chapelle is known as one of the most important centres of Christianity in the world. Built over just seven years - an impressive feat - considering the breathtaking architecture - the Sainte Chapelle was intended to house precious Christian relics, including the incredible Christ's Crown of Thorns, acquired by Saint Louis. As a royal sanctuary of sacred relics, this made the already powerful French monarch of the time the ‘head of Western Christianity’. The stunning stained glass is arranged across 15 windows, each 15 meters high, the stained glass panes depict 1,113 scenes from the Old and New Testaments recounting the history of the Christian world. Built during the second half of the 13th century by Louis IX, Saint Chapelle is a place of extraordinary religious symbolism. The roof appears to be supported by stained glass, so that this magical space feels like the inside of a jewel. Sainte Chapelle remains an unmistakable wonder of France and the medieval world.

The Hôtel Biron, originally a mansion and gardens designed in the ornate Rocaille style, became the home of the Rodin museum in 1919 after the artist donated his collection to the French government.Displayed through the hotel and expansive garden, you can explore and discover great works such as The Kiss and The Gates of Hell.Featuring an astonishing number of sculptures in marble, bronze, terra cotta, wax and plaster, visitors to the Rodin Museum also have the opportunity to take in the collection of paintings, ceramics, prints and photography.
