What you'll do
Aprons on and mixing bowls at the ready for a masterclass in scone-baking. Your one-hour workshop takes place above the De Hems Dutch Café Bar in Soho and provides you with all the skills and materials you’ll need to master the knack of this iconic British delicacy.
The lesson is fully hands-on, includes a fun scone-based history lesson, and endless cups of English tea. And, once your buttery masterpieces have risen and cooled (a little), you’ll be able to smother them in jam and cream and get stuck right in! There will be plenty of time at the end to debate the pronunciation of ‘scone’ (should it rhyme with ‘con’ or ‘cone’?) and to enter the age-old debate on whether the jam goes on before the cream (the Cornish method) or cream first then jam on top (the Devon method).
Any leftovers? Not likely! But whatever you don’t manage to eat there and then is yours to take home, along with a certificate of scone-baking to show off to impressed friends and colleagues.
