Picture this: it’s August in Orlando. The sun’s out, the palm trees are swaying, ice cream melts fast, and the possibilities for fun are endless. School’s out (for most!), summer energy is at its peak, and the city feels alive with adventure seekers, foodies, families, and couples looking for everything from laughter-filled days to laid-back evenings. We love this time of year in Orlando—sure, it’s warm, but that just means there’s even more excuse to hit a water park or chill out in an air-conditioned attraction. Not sure where to start? Whether you want pulse-racing rides, fascinating museums, hands-on fun for kids, or something totally unique (hey, have you ever been up close with a gator?), we’ve put together the ultimate list to make your August getaway unforgettable.

Orlando August essentials you have to try:

Kennedy Space Center

SEA LIFE Orlando Aquarium

The Orlando Eye

Gatorland

The Outta Control Magic Dinner Show

Museum of Illusions Orlando

Island H2O Water Park

Madame Tussauds Orlando

ICON Park

Clearwater Marine Aquarium

Kennedy Space Center: Your Gateway to the Stars

August in Orlando gets even more exciting with a trip to the Kennedy Space Center—a destination that rockets straight to the top of our must-do list. The atmosphere here is charged with possibility and awe. The moment you walk through those futuristic gates, you can feel history and innovation colliding.

So why do we adore it, especially in August? For one thing, the space center offers plenty of reprieve from the Florida sun—most attractions are inside, and the area is beautifully air-conditioned. Spend your morning exploring the mighty Saturn V rocket, taking selfies with real-life astronaut suits, and tracing humanity’s most daring moments in the Race to the Moon. Feel the ground shake (safely!) during the Shuttle Launch Experience—this ride gives you the buzz of an actual rocket launch, without leaving earth.

Younger travelers have plenty to geek out over, too. Kids’ zones are filled with hands-on activities, while space experts answer all those questions about zero gravity and Martian soil. If you visit on a rocket launch day, the energy is off the charts. You’ll join an enthusiastic crowd, eyes glued to the sky as rocket boosters thunder upwards.

August also means fewer school groups and, sometimes, slightly lighter crowds compared to spring. If you need a break, the on-site cafes serve up astronaut ice cream and hearty American classics. When we say you’ll leave inspired, we mean it—Kennedy Space Center is one of those rare places that reminds us just how far humans can go.

SEA LIFE Orlando Aquarium: Dive Into Underwater Adventure

When midday temperatures climb, Orlando offers the perfect solution: head beneath the waves at SEA LIFE Orlando Aquarium. This isn’t your average fish tank—SEA LIFE is a vibrant, immersive world packed with creatures from oceans, rivers, and even local Florida waters.

Step into a 360-degree tunnel where sharks cruise over your head and sea turtles glide by with Zen-like grace. Kids can test out interactive touch pools, getting up close with starfish and anemones, while educational screens and friendly staff bring the watery world to life. You’ll spot delicate rays, horse-faced seahorses (always a kid favorite!), and a kaleidoscope of colorful fish.

The highlight for us has to be their conservation messaging. You pick up fun facts on everything from coral reefs to ocean clean-ups—just the right blend of entertainment and education. The aquarium’s cool, dark environment provides a genuine escape from the sun, making your August afternoon feel like a vacation within a vacation.

If you’re based near ICON Park, SEA LIFE fits beautifully into a day of attractions. Bonus points for the dazzling jellyfish tunnel—a fluorescent wonderland that lights up everyone’s Instagram feed. Whether you’re five or fifty, this spot offers a splash of magic.

The Orlando Eye: Soar Above the City

Love a bird’s-eye view? The Orlando Eye offers one of the coolest vantage points anywhere in Central Florida. The massive observation wheel—rising 400 feet above International Drive—turns every Ferris wheel ride you’ve ever had on its head.

August skies tend to be bright and clear, and the panoramas are jaw-dropping. Air-conditioned capsules glide smoothly, so you’ll cruise above glittering lakes, plush golf courses, and the distant shimmer of theme park fireworks. Even humidity feels far away when you’re up in the clouds.

Why do we recommend The Orlando Eye, especially in summer? First, it’s the perfect pause between high-energy attractions. The ride itself lasts about 22 minutes—just right for catching your breath and snapping a few envy-inducing photos. It’s a beautiful spot for families, couples, and solo travelers alike.

If you time your visit for sunset, the city glows with sparkling lights and golden skies. And because it’s part of ICON Park (packed with restaurants, bars, and other attractions), you’re moments from a craft beer, street tacos, or a retro sweet shop as soon as you step off.

Gatorland: Up Close With Florida’s Wild Side

For a slice of real Florida, nothing beats Gatorland. We’re talking hundreds of alligators—big and small—plus crocs, birds, snakes, and even giant tortoises, all in a sprawling adventure park with tropical vibes and a playful sense of humor.

Why do we love August at Gatorland? The gators are lively (heat makes them more active), and daily shows run in cool, shaded arenas. Thrill-seekers can take the Screamin’ Gator Zip Line—zipping right above alligator-infested swamps (don’t worry, it’s totally safe and outrageously fun). Little ones can feed baby gators at the Gator Gully Splash Park, a colorful play zone that keeps everyone cool.

We can’t get enough of the park’s quirky charm: from wacky “wrestling” shows to the kitschy photo spots (hello, giant gator mouth entrance!), every inch feels unique. The newly opened Croc Rock Adventure climbing area delivers even more challenges for the bravest family members.

In August, the lush landscaping is at its greenest, and the shaded walkways help beat the heat. Don’t forget to grab a bite at Pearl’s Smokehouse—smoked barbecue and fried gator bites are menu highlights (try them if you’re feeling adventurous). Plus, the staff are some of the friendliest guides you’ll meet anywhere in Orlando.

The Outta Control Magic Dinner Show: Laugh, Gasp, and Feast

For an evening that ticks every vacation box—delicious food, eye-popping entertainment, plenty of laughter—there’s The Outta Control Magic Dinner Show at WonderWorks Orlando. It’s our favorite way to switch things up after a day of theme parks or water slides.

What makes this dinner show a must for August? First, you’re indoors (hello, sweet air conditioning), and the atmosphere is upbeat, quirky, and inviting. The star magician pulls off sleight-of-hand tricks that genuinely stump the crowd, but the real draw is the humor—audience participation ensures no two shows are ever alike, and families love the mix of comedy and wizardry.

But let’s talk about the food: unlimited fresh pizza, salad, popcorn, and beverages, plus a big helping of dessert. The whole thing is deliciously laid-back, and everyone gets involved from the moment they walk in.

It’s perfect for groups with kids, adults looking for something off-the-beaten-path, or anyone wanting Florida memories with a twist. After the show, step into WonderWorks itself—a favorite attraction packed with interactive exhibits, a ropes course, and more. August evenings are made for experiences like this.

Museum of Illusions Orlando: Mind-Bending Fun

Ready to turn reality upside down? The Museum of Illusions in Orlando is like walking straight into a magician’s mind. Every room is packed with quirky backdrops, immersive trickery, and puzzles designed to dazzle both kids and grown-ups.

We love how this attraction is made for social media—mirrored rooms, gravity-defying illusions, kaleidoscopic patterns. Step inside the Ames Room (where you suddenly shrink or grow depending on the angle!) or test your perception in the Vortex Tunnel. Each space brings out giggles and plenty of “wait, how did they do that?” moments.

What makes it ideal for August? It’s one of Orlando’s coolest spots—literally and figuratively—offering pure play and refreshment from the heat. Staff members happily help set up those mind-bending photos (your followers will not believe their eyes), and exhibits rotate through the year for new surprises.

Located right at ICON Park, the Museum of Illusions is easy to roll into a bigger day of exploring, eating, and shopping. There’s no age limit for delight here!

Island H2O Water Park: The Ultimate Summer Cool-Down

Florida’s summer sunshine can get intense—so why not embrace it at one of the country’s most interactive water parks? Island H2O Water Park is designed for the digital age, blending classic water thrills with smart wristbands and customizable music in every corner.

Race your friends down multi-lane slides or take a lazy lap in the winding river. The wave pool packs enough splash for surfers and waders alike, and younger visitors adore the kid’s aquatic playground with gentle sprays and shallow zones.

What sets Island H2O apart is the tech twist: you can sync your music to certain attractions, stream directly to the big screen from your wristband, and score points toward prizes with every ride. It makes the whole experience feel personal and endlessly replayable.

August is prime water park time—the crowds are lively, and every corner hums with summer fun. Rent a private cabana for a little VIP treatment, order up an ice-cold slushie or loaded nachos, and settle in for the kind of day you wish would never end. If you ask us, no Orlando trip in August is complete without a water park adventure.

Madame Tussauds Orlando: Rub Shoulders with the Famous

Want a break from poolside lounging? Step into the cool, life-sized world of Madame Tussauds Orlando. This celebrated wax museum lands you face-to-face with A-list movie stars, sports legends, musical icons, and historical figures—all under one roof.

Madame Tussauds isn’t a stuffy museum; the ambiance is bright and interactive, with themed rooms that let you pose with superheroes, challenge your favorite basketball player, or even stand in the Oval Office beside a U.S. president. Each figure is uncannily lifelike, and staff are always nearby to help you grab the perfect snap for your social feed.

Why visit in August? Besides the air-conditioning (always a win in Orlando), the vibe is lively—school’s out, so whole families enjoy big group selfies and plenty of laughs. The wax figures are rotated and refreshed often, so there’s usually something new even for repeat visitors.

This spot also pairs perfectly with a stop at SEA LIFE or The Orlando Eye, both right next door at ICON Park. Spend an hour feeling like a superstar—trust us, it’s a confidence booster.

ICON Park: Food, Fun, and Live Entertainment

If you want to see the playful side of Orlando, head over to ICON Park. This walkable entertainment district is built for August energy—full of vibrant bars, family-friendly restaurants, live music, and amusements for every age and interest.

ICON Park is where you find The Orlando EyeSEA LIFEMadame Tussauds, and the Museum of Illusions, so it’s a compact way to hit several attractions in one go. But that’s just the beginning: there’s a retro-style carousel, open-air shopping with boutique finds, and a lively crowd turning patios into impromptu parties every evening.

Let’s talk eats—Sloppy Joe’s decks out sandwiches and cocktails in a Key West spirit, while Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips serves crispy cod with tangy sauces and hand-cut fries. For a sweet treat, Sugar Factory is Instagram heaven with milkshakes topped with candy, cookies, and entire slices of cake. Every spot here seems designed for group cheers and vacation vibes.

August evenings at ICON Park bring out local musicians and happy hour deals, so stick around, people-watch, and enjoy summer nights the way locals do.

Clearwater Marine Aquarium: Meet Rescue Legends

If your Orlando trip includes a venture west to the coast, make Clearwater Marine Aquarium a priority. Set right on the sparkling Gulf of Mexico, this working rescue and rehabilitation center is world-famous—home to Winter and Hope, the dolphins that inspired the “Dolphin Tale” movies (bring tissues).

We adore how the aquarium blends education with unforgettable wildlife encounters. See dolphins, sea turtles, otters, and nurse sharks in spacious habitats, and watch staff treat, feed, and train the animals. The behind-the-scenes tours reveal how challenging—and rewarding—marine rescue can be.

August means fewer crowds compared to spring break and winter, making every exhibit feel a little more up close and personal. The indoor/outdoor design lets you soak up poolside breezes, but there’s always a cool spot to duck into if temperatures rise.

Don’t skip the touch tanks, where rays and invertebrates glide under your fingers. Clearwater also offers views of the Intracoastal Waterway—watch boats drift by, stroll the breezy boardwalk, and keep your camera ready for photogenic pelicans. Pair your visit with a lazy afternoon at nearby Clearwater Beach, whose soft white sands are the perfect end to an August adventure beyond the city.

Orlando in August serves up pure summer joy—theme park thrills, hands-on science, cool museums, water-soaked adventures, and evenings where the city’s energy is contagious. Whether you’re a family chasing laughter, a couple seeking memories, or a solo traveler ticking off bucket-list stops, there’s something here for everyone. Pack your shades, embrace the playlists, and get ready for a trip that’s packed with as many refreshing surprises as a tall glass of Florida orange juice.

Legoland or Disney World Florida Comparison

Florida’s Legoland and Walt Disney World resorts require little introduction. These Orlando heavyweights come with significant boasts. Did you know, for example, that Legoland Florida is, at 145 acres, the second-largest Legoland on the planet (beaten only marginally by Legoland Windsor in the UK)? Or that Walt Disney World frankly dwarfs it (and every other theme park in the world for that matter), weighing in at a whopping 27,000 acres? Well, now you do. Read on for our comparison of this entertainment equivalent of David and Goliath as we put Legoland and Walt Disney World through their paces... Legoland or Disney World Florida Comparison: Legoland Name: Legoland. Or, if we must be pedantic about it: LEGOLAND® Florida Resort. Age: A mere whippersnapper next to Walt Disney World, Legoland Florida opened to the general public in October, 2011. Legoland in a nutshell: This epic interactive theme park is a firm family favorite, with 150 acres in which to let kids young and old run riot. We’re talking Lego-themed rollercoaster rides, 4D movie theaters, water shows and more. Heck, there’s even a standalone Peppa Pig theme park, a water park and a botanical garden here. Add to that several restaurants and gift shops and you have all the ingredients for a great day out. Though technically aimed at kids aged 2-12, it’s also pretty great fun for grown-ups too! There’s easily enough to do here to justify a couple of days. Maybe even three. Legoland: Vital Statistics Size: 145 acres Number of zones: there are a whopping 12 themed zones to explore, and we’re not even including the Cypress Gardens, Peppa Pig Theme Park or Legoland Water Park in that count. Number of attractions: there are somewhere in the region of 50 fun rides, theaters and other attractions in the main park. Number of hotels: three. Number of Lego bricks: 4m+ Visitors: around 1.5 million annually. Unmissable Highlights at Legoland Florida Adrenaline heads will want to hit up the coasters in Lego Kingdoms and the Land of Adventure in which, respectively, The Dragon and traditional wooden Coastersaurus are among the most hair-raising. Meanwhile, fans of Lego Ninjago will find much to enjoy on the interactive Ninjago-themed dark ride. Kids can earn their Legoland driving licenses in Lego City, play video games and build Lego Mindstorms robots in the Imagination Zone, and meet Lego friends including Mia, Olivia, Andrea, Stephanie and Emma in Heartlake City. For something a little bit... weirder, mosey on down to Pirates’ Cove, where the daily live action water-ski stunt show on Lake Eloise sees Captain Brickbeard, Calico Jade and the rest of the scurvy pirate crew put through their paces on wakeboards, flying boards and more. Meanwhile, over in the Land of Adventure, there’s a safari trek that takes in life-size lego lions, tigers and elephants. And in Lego Movie World you can get involved in the Battle of Bricksburg, in which participants spray down evil Duplo invaders and, well, get royally drenched in the process. Legoland Florida: Information for Visitors Opening hours: Standard opening hours are 10AM-5PM daily, but these vary by season and on weekends and holidays. The Water Park tends to open a little later and close a little earlier than Legoland. Check the Legoland website for the latest opening hours. Tickets: There are various options available direct, from multi-day tickets to VIP and annual passes. You’ll need separate tickets in addition to your Legoland ticket if you want to visit the Legoland Water Park. Alternatively, an Orlando attraction pass from Go City includes one-day entry to Legoland Florida, plus admission to dozens more top Orlando attractions for one money-saving price. Legoland or Disney World Florida Comparison: Walt Disney World Florida Name: Walt Disney World Florida, to give it its full name. Initially just plain old Disney World, Walt’s first name was added posthumously in recognition that the whole project had been his idea. Age: This stalwart of the theme park scene first opened its gates way back in October 1971, a shade under five years after Walt’s death. Walt Disney World in a nutshell: Walt Disney World is a monster entertainment complex that’s truly worthy of its founder’s name. What was once a vast tract of Florida swampland now contains – deep breath – four separate theme parks, two water parks, four golf courses, several shopping complexes and multiple hotels. Frankly it’s more of a Disney city than a mere theme park: to give you some idea of scale, it’s approximately the same size as San Francisco. However, it is the theme parks here that are the main event, running the gamut from the classic Magic Kingdom to Epcot (a celebration of human technological innovation and achievement), Hollywood Studios and the vast Animal Kingdom – the world’s largest theme park at a humongous 580 acres, fact fans. With that in mind, you may find that one or even two weeks isn’t quite enough time to take it all in. Walt Disney World: Vital Statistics Size: 27,000 acres or thereabouts, around half of which has been developed to date. Number of parks: Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Epcot and Animal Kingdom makes four. There are also two water parks and several dozen additional satellite zones and attractions. Number of attractions: there are around 170 rides across the four main parks. Number of hotels: 32, of which 22 are owned and operated by Disney. Visitors: around 58 million annually, making Walt Disney World the world’s most visited vacation resort. Unmissable Highlights at Walt Disney World I mean... where to start? Can you even say you’ve been to the Magic Kingdom if you fail to grab a selfie at the iconic Cinderella Castle, ride the original Space Mountain rollercoaster or shake hands with Mickey, Minnie and the gang? Then there’s Epcot (or EPCOT, if you insist), where the Mission: Space thrill ride comes with complimentary motion-sickness bags and the World Showcase neighborhood contains pavilions representing the cultures, cuisines and architecture of 11 nations including Norway, Morocco, Japan and the United Kingdom. Get a taste of the golden age of cinema at Hollywood Studios, where highlights include the Muppet-themed Grand Avenue, several Star Wars rides and the 11-acre Toy Story Land. And hit up the Animal Kingdom which is, in effect, one of the world’s biggest zoos. Go on an African safari, ride the Wildlife Express Train, catch a show at the Tree of Life Theater, and say hey to the resident anteaters, macaws, gorillas, hippos, crocodiles and other critters. Word has it you might even bump into the occasional overgrown mouse or duck... Walt Disney World: Information for Visitors Opening hours: Hollywood Studios and Epcot generally open from 9AM-9PM; Magic Kingdom is 9AM-10PM and Animal Kingdom 8AM-7PM. However, timings will vary a little by season. Check the Walt Disney World website for the most up-to-date opening hours. Orlando in October

Fall is arguably the best time of the year to plan a visit to Orlando. Though the city isn’t exactly known for its crisp breeze and fall foliage, autumn provides a much-welcomed break from Orlando’s high summer temperatures. Thankfully, this time of the year is still warm, which means that you can still visit all of the area’s wonderful outdoor attractions, just as you would any other time of the year – but with less of a fuss! Trust us when we say that you’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to choosing from exciting things to do in the area. The city’s world-class amusement parks are an absolute must-see for thrillseekers and those travelling with family. If you’re looking to spend some time in nature, look no further than Harry P. Leu Gardens. Or, immerse yourself in the true culture of the city at Winter Park Autumn Art Festival. So, grab your planner and get ready to jot some things down. Whatever you choose to do, we’re sure it’ll be great! Hit the Classics No visit to Orlando would be complete without checking out Universal Studios. Drawing in millions of visitors each year, this place is considered to be one of the most popular theme parks in the United States – and with good reason! Movie buffs and pop culture aficionados alike will enjoy its playful theme geared towards the entertainment industry, while there are over 30 rides and attractions to enjoy all year round. Still, if you’re anything like us, Halloween is your favorite holiday – and thankfully, Universal pulls out all the stops. For a spookier experience, don’t miss out on the park’s haunted houses, scream-filled scare zones, and live shows. Exceptionally frightful and undoubtedly awesome, this place certainly knows how to do Halloween justice! A total classic for those of all ages, Magic Kingdom is one of those places that everyone should visit at least once in a lifetime. Standing out against all other outdoor attractions in the city, this iconic Orlando mainstay is now a fundamental part of American culture. Walking around the park can be a little overwhelming for some, but we always recommend you hit the highlights – If an adrenaline rush is what you’re after, head over to Splash Mountain. For those looking for something with a little less bite, It’s a Small World would be your best bet. Or, for a true slice of Americana, try The Hall of Presidents. No matter where your interests may lie, you’re sure to find something for you. Though this place is known for its whimsical aesthetic all year round, it transforms to offer something a little different during the month of October. For all the Halloween lovers out there, don’t forget to check out the After Hours Boo Bash and Minnie’s Halloween Dine. The ultimate crowdpleaser that never goes out of style, we love this place because it always puts a smile on our face. Find Fun Activities Those travelling with family might appreciate the next item on our list. Another top player in the fantasy land game, Legoland garners enduring popularity for its specialist theme and kid-friendly rides. Based upon the popular children's toy after which it is named, the park is designed for children aged between 2-12 (but don’t tell us what to do!) Legoland is split into twelve separate areas, each with their own unique theme, and even includes botanical gardens which are preserved from its previous site. When Halloween rolls around, you can also catch costume competitions, themed shows and a pumpkin trail. We recommend checking the website before heading out, so you know when the special events are taking place. Of course, it wouldn’t be autumn without Oktoberfest. Held every year at Avalon Park, the fun never stops coming at this lively historic festival. Bringing Bavarian tradition to the City Beautiful, there’s a lot of fun to be had here. Sip a nice cold one in the beer garden, get festive with some Alpine dancing, and enjoy a hot bratwurst fresh off the stove. In addition, there are child-friendly games and activities, so nobody is left out! With its incredible atmosphere, we honestly couldn’t think of a better way to bring in the fall. Try Something Different If you’re looking for a relaxing way to spend the afternoon in Orlando, why not check out the Winter Park Autumn Art Festival? Running every October for over forty years now, this community-oriented sidewalk show proudly features the work of over 180 first-rate local artists. Walking around the festival, you’ll see everything from digital pieces and photography to fine art and sculpture. Still, there’s a lot more to see than just art here, with live music and comedy, and of course, an abundance of food to be enjoyed. The perfect stop for all creative types, we definitely don’t recommend skipping out on this one! With the cooler weather throughout the month, we highly suggest checking out some of the area’s beautiful green spaces. Founded in the late 1800s, Harry P. Leu Gardens is a big favorite for locals and visitors alike. The Leus travelled all over the world, bringing back exotic greenery to fill their gardens. Thankfully, the park is open to the public all year round, offering a great respite from the city. The park has a tropical rain forest, Florida's largest formal rose garden, and even a butterfly garden to be explored. Take a leisurely stroll, have a picnic, and don’t forget to make a stop at the Leu House Museum. Whichever way you choose to enjoy this lovely botanical oasis, there’s more than enough to see and do here. If you're looking to get in touch with Mother Nature, or simply just a quiet spot of contemplation, this is the way to go about things. October brings pleasant temperatures and wonderful energy, making it a great time to explore Orlando. The city is in full swing, with exciting events popping up all over the area throughout the entire month. Whether you’re a seasoned visitor or just passing through, you’re sure to find something to pique your interest. Of course, Halloween is the highlight of the month, and you can get in on the fun and festivities at almost every turn. Other big favorites include Oktoberfest and the Winter Park Autumn Art Festival, where you can soak up that incredible atmosphere. Still, don’t forget to seize the opportunity to enjoy the city’s best outdoor attractions in the cooler weather.
