National Archaeology Museum
Marvel at this extensive collection of archaeological finds from the Paleolithic Era up to the 7th century AD
What you'll do
With over 30,000 objects on display, you can explore one of the most important archeological exhibits in Europe!
The museum is housed in the grand Saint-Germain-en-Laye – a former royal residence since the 12th century. After falling into disrepair, the structure was restored by Napoleon III during the Second Empire. Passionate about archeology, the emperor created the Museum of Celtic and Gallo-Roman Antiquities here.
Did you know?
The Paleolithic period – the longest in prehistory – saw the advent of stone tools, weapons made of bone, domestication of fire and the first burials.
Neolithic humans formed the first villages and ushered in the technical advancements of polished stone, ceramics, weaving and creating monuments of stone.
The Bronze Age saw the development of various trade routes for minerals and metallic objects that crossed all of Europe. Metals led to the creation of wealth and increased social hierarchies.
The Iron Ages was a time of war-oriented societies, the movements of populations and profound economic and social upheavals.
