What you'll do
See what life was like for Singapore Chinatown’s earliest residents at the Chinatown Heritage Centre.
In the midst of Singapore’s bustling Chinatown district, comprised of four main areas: Telok Ayer, Kreta Ayer, Bukit Pasoh, and Tanjong Pagar, are three carefully restored shophouses on Pagoda Street.
The Chinatown Heritage Centre is dedicated to sharing the lives of its earliest residents. Experience the journeys of those who left their villages and homes in China to build a new life in Singapore. The shophouses were built to serve their commercial and residential needs.
Showcasing the memories of yesteryear and buzzing with heartfelt stories, the Chinese Heritage Centre has multisensory exhibits to help you understand how Chinatown is more than just a home.
Discover the charm of preserved 1950s shophouses and learn about Singapore’s colorful architectural heritage.
The building style is a fusion of influences: southern Chinese traditions combined with European classical elements and Malay columns and lowered shutters. The hybrid style has continued to evolve and represents the cosmopolitan nature of Singapore.
