If you like an early morning hike to get the blood pumping, then a trek up to Faber Peak, the west of the city center, is a pretty trail with a rewardingly good view at the end. You can start at the Harborfront Exit D and take the Marang Trail, which is only 800 meters to the top of the Point, or take the Henderson Waves Bridge, which is the highest pedestrian bridge in Singapore and is designed to mimic the curves and twists of a wave. Once you&rsquo;re at the top, stop to watch the sunrise over the city then take the Cable Car over to Sentosa Island, where you&rsquo;ll find beaches, old forts, Madame Tussauds and Universal Studios.

Merlion Park sits on the tip of the Marina with a prime view across the bay and to the east, making it an ideal spot for a sunrise snap. Catch the distinctive silhouette of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel and its reflection in the water and watch as the sun&rsquo;s rays creep over the imposing Merlion statue, the half-lion half-fish symbol of the city. Fortunately, this spot is right in the city center, so you won&rsquo;t have to factor in much travel time when you set your alarm &ndash; however you will find this is one of the most popular sunrise viewing places in the city, especially with photographers. Along that particular stretch of coast, and finishing at the river mouth, is the Changi Boardwalk, a 2.2km wooden trail that looks out over Singapore&rsquo;s Islands and to Malaysia in the distance. Walk from west to east to get the full view of the sunrise and its colors reflected in the water, or find the shelter near the golf club and enjoy your breakfast while you watch. There are plenty of places nearby to grab a coffee afterwards, or walk back along the path in the daylight when you&rsquo;ll have more chance of spotting a native skink or starfish.

As an airport which processes over 68 million people a year, Changi airport is well-used to transiting passengers. In fact, it provides one of the best transit experiences of any airport in the world.The winner of 600-plus awards for excellence, it has four main terminals, so it&rsquo;s important to check early on which terminal your connecting flight is departing from. Terminals 1, 2 and 3 are physically linked, allowing travelers to either walk between them or use the people mover monorail system. Terminal 4 is connected to these terminals by a regular complimentary shuttle bus service.

It&rsquo;s generally recommended that a minimum sensible transit time at Changi airport is two hours. This ensures passengers can pass through security and get to the departure gate of their connecting flight in good time.

Transit passengers do not need to pass through immigration, and therefore Singapore transit requirements do not include the need for a visa for travelers of any nationality. All requirements relating to the Coronavirus pandemic, including the need for proof of vaccination status, have now been removed by Singapore&rsquo;s government.

But if you&rsquo;ve got several hours to kill, and are in need of a rest, each terminal has dedicated snooze lounges (called the sanctuary and oasis lounges in terminal 2) with reclined seating. Many have power outlets too, so you can charge your electronic devices at the same time. Free for all passengers, seats work on a first-come first-served basis.

For a guarantee of relaxation in a quieter atmosphere, you can turn to one of the airport&rsquo;s pay-per-use lounges. Those in terminals 1 &ndash; 3 are open 24 hours a day. Their facilities range from regionally-inspired menus to gyms and showers.

When only a hotel room will do, Changi airport comes into its own yet again. It has several transit hotels which don&rsquo;t require you to pass through immigration. About as different to the standard image of an airport terminal as you can get, the Jewel&rsquo;s attractions include the five-floor-high Shiseido Forest Valley and top story Canopy Park. This incorporates a topiary and petal garden, as well as a 23-meter-long canopy bridge partly made of glass flooring.

But what will really blow you away is the Rain Vortex, the world&rsquo;s biggest indoor waterfall, which acts as a centerpiece to the complex. It rises to a height of 40 meters and sees continuously recycled rain water pour through an opening in the roof. After nightfall, the wall of water becomes the location of a sound and light show.

Changi Experience Studio contains displays and interactive games detailing the history of the airport, and provides a behind the scenes look at exactly what it takes to operate it. You could see all these attractions in one long weekend, although you&rsquo;d probably want to spread them out to really enjoy the experience.

If you&rsquo;ve got the extra days, it&rsquo;s probably best to split your days into different zones, depending on your preferences.

4 or 5 days is a good amount of time to get a feel for Singapore. You may need to miss out on some attractions, but that gives you the perfect excuse to book a return trip later in the year.

The smaller of the two great swooping glass orbs that rise out of the ground like jewels is by no means the less impressive. Inside you&rsquo;ll find a great green mountain, bursting with plant life all the way to the top where a stunning waterfall - the world&rsquo;s tallest indoor falls - cascades to the ground. The mist that courses through the atmosphere of the dome will make you feel as though you&rsquo;ve stepped into the rainforest.

<h2>Flower Dome</h2>

This is the world&rsquo;s largest glass greenhouse and is a seriously impressive structure. The larger of the two biodomes plays host to a variety of sculpted gardens from around the globe, featuring a South American garden, a South African garden, an olive grove, a baobab forest, and more! Crowned by a gravity-defying, single-span glass roof, this place really will take your breath away.

<h2>Supertree Grove</h2>

Catch your breath again outside at the living sculptures that make up the Supertree Grove. A couple of clusters of 18 vertical gardens were built to resemble trees and work as &lsquo;environmental engines&rsquo; as they take in and exhaust air for the conservatories&#39; air systems. They are the principal feature in the complex&rsquo;s &lsquo;edutainment&rsquo; concept which aims to teach ecology through wonderful visuals and immersive elements.

In fact, our favorite time to visit Supertree Grove is at night, when the magnificent structures are lit up and perform striking light shows. But don&rsquo;t just ogle these beauties from the ground. For SGD$8 you can venture 22 meters in the air over a 128-meter aerial walkway through the Supertrees canopy.

<h2>Dragonfly Lake&nbsp;</h2>

This gorgeous green body of water might look still and silent on its surface, but below it is teeming with plant and aquatic life. The landscaped edges are carefully planted with reeds and other naturally filtering plants that contribute to the ecosystem&rsquo;s preservation. You can enjoy the lake from the 440m-long boardwalk that meanders around the edge and provides exceptional spots for photography of the gardens with the city&rsquo;s skyline in the background.&nbsp;

<h2>Sun Pavilion&nbsp;</h2>

This sun-soaked cactus conservatory is an unusual sight in Singapore&rsquo;s perpetually humid atmosphere. Under the cover of a sculptural glass roof, these cacti and succulents are allowed to thrive in the hot climate while Singapore&rsquo;s stormwater is siphoned away. Enjoy a wander among these alien-like, prickly protrusions and admire the diversity of the Garden&rsquo;s inhabitants.&nbsp;

Get the tastebud party started with zingy chili crab, Singapore&rsquo;s (unofficial) national dish. Slurp great steaming bowls of laksa. Sample sweet, sticky satay skewers. Gorge on umami oyster omelet. Heck, you can even go rogue and try out-there local specialties like turtle soup, century egg and &ndash; for guts of steel only &ndash;&nbsp; fried pigs&rsquo; fallopian tubes in kung pao sauce. Singapore Hawker Centers

Whatever your poison, the great news is that prices for hawker center plates tend to begin and end in student-friendly single figures. In other words, you can fill your face with some of the best food in the world for less than S$10, and often way less. Dig in!

Many of these great cathedrals of knowledge run free events &ndash; readings, film screenings and the like &ndash; but it&rsquo;s mostly about the books. And the architecture. Library@Orchard (pictured) is particularly eye-catching, with long, wavy shelves containing hundreds of volumes on lifestyle, art and design. There&rsquo;s a Library of Botany and Horticulture at (where else?) Singapore Botanic Gardens, while Tampines Regional Library comes with its own auditorium, indoor running track and children&rsquo;s playground.

Cathedrals of Knowledge

Two great reasons for students to lace up their boots and pound the pavements of Singapore: 1) it can be very culturally enriching and 2) it doesn&rsquo;t cost a dime.&nbsp;

Along the way, you can meet, pet and otherwise dodge several life-sized dino models, from docile brontosauri to vicious velociraptors and even a fence-trashing T-rex!</li>

Singaporeans just love a light show and there&rsquo;s barely a day goes by that the city skies aren&rsquo;t filled with apocalyptic pyrotechnics or laser light shows. You can catch two of the very best down Marina Bay way, where the Sands Resort&rsquo;s Spectra light show turns the skies technicolor daily at 8PM and 9PM. Over at Gardens by the Bay, experience the eye-popping spectacle of the supertrees bursting into luminous life every evening at 7.45PM.</li>

The human spaces feature Burmese architecture, while the animal spaces include plenty of space for this herd of five female elephants to play.&nbsp;Fragile Forest&nbsp;Contained within a vast biodome, this exhibit mimics a tropical rainforest habitat. Your path through the exhibit will evoke a journey through the rainforest as you encounter animals from insects and frogs, to lemurs and sloths.&nbsp;Frozen Tundra&nbsp;This exhibit captures the climate of the Arctic region to make its inhabitants feel right at home. Meet raccoon dogs from Japan and a pair of wolverines - and remember to bundle up as you walk through this area.&nbsp;Great Rift Valley of Ethiopia&nbsp;Echoing the ever-changing landscape of this unique part of Ethiopia, this exhibit houses animals that are found throughout its namesake. Catch glimpses of jackals, meerkats, baboons, and the grand ibex.&nbsp;Primate Kingdom&nbsp;The fun part about this exhibit is the fact that each primate gets its own designated &ldquo;island&rdquo; area to live and play in. The moats surrounding each island are filled with fish, and the islands are filled with bamboo, wild grass, and palms to keep the monkeys happy.&nbsp;Rainforest KidzWorld&nbsp;Perfect for your little ones, this section of the Singapore Zoo is filled with friendly critters. Mandai Wildlife Reserve&rsquo;s flagship attraction is widely regarded as one of the world&rsquo;s best zoos, thanks to its open-plan design, ravishing rainforest habitats and stellar conservation credentials. Multiple zones house around 4,200 animals and 300 species across 69 acres. Critters you can expect to encounter here include lions, elephants, giraffes, tamarins, parrots and flying foxes.

Somewhat larger than the zoo at nearly 90 acres, the Night Safari has four epic trails dedicated to nocturnal animals. The residents here tend to spend much of the day snoozing, and are generally at their most active around dusk. Wander the trails (or take the tram tour) to ogle Nile hippos, spotted hyenas and rare pangolins, and to experience the unforgettable sound of Tasmanian devils at feeding time. Night Safari

Here&rsquo;s where you can meet some of the weird and wonderful creatures that live in and around the world&rsquo;s rivers. We&rsquo;re talking the Amazon, Mekong, Ganges, Yangtze and more. Spot wildlife including leopards and giant anteaters on the Amazon boat ride, get up close to giant pandas (and their cute lil red panda pals) in the forest and encounter aquatic animals including manatees, Indian gharials, red-bellied piranhas and giant river otters.

River Wonders

Forty-two acres of aviary and wetland, Bird Paradise hosts a colorful rainbow of our feathered friends, from big flightless beasts like the fearsome southern cassowary to brightly plumed parrots and punky rockhopper penguins. Bird Paradise

Tickets for standard entry to the individual parks will cost you from around S$31 for children aged 3-12, and from S$43 for adults. But there are plenty of ways to get more bang for your buck. Promotions and Discounts for Mandai Wildlife Reserves

This one is a great way to save money if you were planning to visit multiple parks anyway. Here&rsquo;s how it works: you pay a one-off fee that&rsquo;s roughly the equivalent of buying individual admission to two parks. But that ticket bags you entry to four! The price paid includes tram rides in Singapore Zoo, Bird Paradise and the Night Safari, and the Amazon River Quest boat ride at River Wonders. Child tickets also include a ride on the Singapore Zoo carousel. The premise is simple, really: the more parks you visit, the more you will save. Tickets cover one-time entry to each park and are valid for seven days.

The ParkHopper Plus

If you&rsquo;re planning multiple visits to Mandai&rsquo;s Wildlife Reserve across the year, membership can be an effective way of saving cash, as well as supporting the reserve&#39;s worthwhile conservation projects. There are two tiers of membership: Friends of Wildlife and Friends of Wildlife Plus. Prices start at a little over S$200 for the basic package, which gets you unlimited access to all the zoos for 12 months (excepting a handful of blackout dates), plus invitations to member events and a 20% discount on shopping, dining and more inside the reserve. The &lsquo;plus&rsquo; membership costs a little more and includes some additional swag like a birthday gift, a parking pass, free rides on the Amazon River Quest at Night Safari, and zero blackout dates.

Mandai Wildlife Reserve

The flagship attraction at Mandai Wildlife Reserve, Singapore Zoo is one of the most impressive rainforest zoos on the planet. Its open-exhibit style employs the use of moats, hidden barriers and glass screens across the zoo&rsquo;s 69 acres, allowing the animals as much freedom as possible, and giving their visitors the sensation of being closer to their favorite critters than ever before.

There are several zones to explore, including a tropical rainforest housed inside a frankly enormous biodome, where you might encounter lesser mousedeer, lion tamarins and two-toed sloths. Then there&rsquo;s Wild Africa, where giants of the savannah &ndash; among them white rhinos, giraffes, lions and African painted dogs &ndash; hold court. Hit up RepTopia for your fix of cold-blooded beasts including bearded dragons, gaboon vipers and panther chameleons, and let the kids work off some steam at KidzWorld, with water play, sensory games and close animal encounters.

Singapore Zoo

Another jewel in the Mandai Wildlife reserve&rsquo;s crown, River Wonders is a paradise of walking trails and boat rides that reveal the species that thrive in and around the world&rsquo;s rivers and oceans. It&#39;s here you might encounter aquatic oddities like giant river otters, manatees, red-bellied piranhas and fearsome Indian gharials.

The zones here represent the wildlife found on some of the planet&rsquo;s most biodiverse waterways, including the Amazon, Ganges, Mekong and Yangtze rivers. Board the Amazon River Quest and see if you can spot the wildlife &ndash; tapirs, giant anteaters and jaguars among them &ndash; lurking in the dense riverside vegetation. You can also visit the world&rsquo;s largest freshwater aquarium in the Amazon Flooded Forest, and get a close encounter with river otters and manatees. Not cute enough for ya? The Giant Panda Forest has your back where, as well as the titular black-and-white bears, you can also meet ferociously cute little red pandas.

This one&rsquo;s for all the Insta addicts out there. A whopping 42 acres of long legs, kaleidoscopic plumage and oddball beaks await in Bird Paradise, a vast aviary of feathery friends from Asia and beyond. There are around 3,500 birds to ogle here: everything from tiny (but loud!) straw-headed bulbuls to huge southern cassowaries from Papua New Guinea &ndash; if there&rsquo;s a bird out there more clearly descended from the dinosaurs than the cassowary, we&rsquo;ve yet to encounter it! Other prehistoric-looking birds here include spoonbills, pelicans and scarlet ibises, while the Amazonian Jewels zone provides some light relief via its rainbow of tropical show-offs, among them macaws, salmon-crested cockatooes and the quite fabulous Philippine eagle. Heck, there&rsquo;s even space for several penguin species, including the cute Northern rockhopper.

Fill your social feeds with color and joy, and be sure to catch the breathtaking daily presentations showcasing apex predators of the air, including majestic white-bellied sea eagles, harris hawks, and huge cinereous vultures.&nbsp;

The largest of the Mandai Wildlife Reserve attractions, Night Safari runs to nearly 90 acres and focuses &ndash; as the name suggests &ndash; on largely nocturnal creatures. Here&rsquo;s where you can encounter majestic Malayan flying foxes, which become much more active at dusk and put on a heck of a show as they soar gracefully from treetop to treetop.&nbsp;

Proving size really doesn&rsquo;t matter at all when it comes to striking fear into the hearts of all who encounter them, the Tasmanian devils are quite possibly the Night Safari&rsquo;s most terrifying residents.&nbsp;

The Night Safari is also home to Nile hippos, bull elephants, leopard cats, African aardvarks, Cape buffalo, spotted hyenas, slow lorises, bushbabies, and the vanishingly rare Sunda pangolin. You can catch all of these and more in close-up along the park&rsquo;s themed trails, or take the half-hour tram ride for a broad overview of the zoo and its crepuscular inhabitants.
