What you'll do

This award-winning museum charts the story of Britain’s postal service through a range of fascinating exhibits that help you learn about its origins and evolution over time.

Get up close and personal to the sheets of the world’s first postage stamp or try your hand at sorting through mail on a train carriage. You’ll also get the chance to see a historic mail coach that delivered mail around the country in the 1800s while learning about the history of Britain’s Mail Rail and riding through its old tunnels on an authentic Mail Rail train. With over 60,000 unique objects in the museum and numerous interactive activities to keep you busy, you’ll learn everything there is to know about postal communication while having lots of fun in the process.

Getting in

Check the Postal Museum's website or call ahead for availability before visiting. Present your pass at the Mail Rail Welcome space.

The last train departs at 3:30PM.
The Mail Rail is generally available for pass holders to ride, however, in the rare cases when it reaches capacity or faces technical issues, customers will be informed on arrival and will still be welcomed to visit the exhibitions in the museum.

Busy tip

We highly recommend visiting the museum on weekday mornings to make the most of your experience. A downloadable audio guide is available for an additional fee on arrival. Available in English, German, French, Spanish and Italian. Your own smart device and headphones are required.

Disclaimer

If you are visiting with children aged 2 to 4, as they won’t have a pass, they will be charged admission by The Postal Museum. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket office.
